Deal on Magrail TL MRBITBASE

Just noticed on VIM tools website under "Bargain Basement Deals" they reduced the price on the MRBITBASE bit holder to $7.00 down from over $30.00. Its base is an 8" Magrail TL which retails for over $20.00 so even if you don't need the bit block it’s a deal just for the Magrail TL.

(Disclaimer, I designed and engineered the Magrail TL, but do not work for Vim tools or have anything to do with their pricing.)

So I guess I need to "thank you" for making me spend about $1000 on your invention! I have them and love them.

I too think that Magrail TLs are the best rail system on the market and have invested more than I thought i would ever spend on rails. Thanks for developing them:beer::thumbup:

Thanks, Fredwrench,
I was in aviation for many years and received input from the mechanics I worked with on what they wanted in a socket rail. Most of these mechanics were already using a tool I had patented the Milbar Reversible Wire Twister, so they took me seriously and gave great input. The Magrail TL is the result. I was able to give them nearly 100% of what they ask for. I almost never get negative feedback on the Magrail except for the price, but it cost what it cost to do what it does. No one ever says the magnets are too weak and my Magrail TL fell off the side of my tool box.
Thanks for your support,
Ron

How does the MagRail hold onto vertical surfaces?

Incredible. I'm assuming they are loaded with rare earth magnets. Even with 1/8" drawer liners between mine and the drawer, I still have to use the special tool to pull them loose. If you stuck one directly to a piece of steel you would struggle a lot to even pull it off with your hands. You would have to use their tool or a screwdriver/prybar to pry it loose.

Does this require some weird base or can I just sit it in my toolbox?

Yesterday evening [Thur.] I sent an email asking if they ship to Canada. No response. So this evening I phoned. They are open Mon. to Thur. 6:30am to 4:30pm. Guess I'll find out on Monday.
Aside; I'd like to work those hours. Every weekend is a long weekend.

The aluminum rail is 3/16 thick and one inch wide. Has a “T” channel down the center between two rows of dovetail neodymium magnets. The “T” channel accepts the “T” studs and pegs. That’s it. Arrange your sockets on it and it will attach to any steel surface, even overhead where you can easily remove a socket.
It uses the same magnets to attach the rail and hold the sockets. The socket side is approx. 30% stronger than the base side. It works because the base has a large contact area and you are removing only one socket at a time. Steel enhances the magnet power, the thicker the steel its attached to, the more sockets on it, the stronger it is.

Thanks for the heads up, I picked up a couple of these. How do you remove the plastic bitholder from the Magrail TL? I can see a small bolt, but the whole head is not exposed.

It's a torx t8 IIRC. I can't thank the OP enough as an 8" Magrail TL for 7 bucks finally made these affordable for me and I was able to do my entire box and cart in Magrail TL and these things are ******* awesome. My only problem now is I have literally 50+ bit base's....

T30.

What I thought was plastic obscuring the bolt was actually a nut that fits over a threaded post. It has a T30 profile inside.

Thanks for bumping this up.

I have the labelled Ares magnetic ones off Amazon for standard sockets, but these should be perfect for bits, torx, hex and all the other mishmash I seem to have collected and have not been able to organize to my liking.

Very cost effective too, if I can leave it at this.
