Napa infared thermometer

Any one used Napa's brand of IR Thermometer 783880. Looking at it on sale vs the dual laser therm from Lowes (General Tools). I don't see any reviews on the Napa anywhere. My Dad always went for Napa over other store brands, so I am thinking that is the way to go.

Just need if for automotive use occasionally as a back up for accuracy of temp gauge in 1960 car.

For basic use like that I would pick up the very cheap key fob sized unit, unless its too small of a range. All of the larger ones tend to eat 9v batteries, which are too expensive these days.

I don't understand this at all.
I feel like my (Napa) IR temp gun goes at least two years on a 9 volt.
Even if I'm off on that, what are they like two bucks?

Not familiar with the key fob temp reader, but sounds like it would take a button cell battery. Those certainly aren't cheap relative to their capacity

I have several. None use the 9V very quickly. The $10 reads within a degree or two of the one that was over $100. Don't worry about name and go for the cheap one. They are really handy for working on older cars.

There are only a handful of companies making the sensors. Everyone pretty much uses the same ones. If accuracy is critical to the processes, some of the name brand ones have better electronics and better calibrations. If you just need to be in the right ball park +-.5 degrees or so, they are all about the same.

Went with the Napa brand for under $40 on sale, they are 10 min from my house versus an hour drive to HF. Thanks

I have the harbor Freight one, Have not had any problems.

Just remember to stick a piece of black electrical tape to whatever it is you are measuring or your readings may be pretty far off.
