I was at one of the area Lowes stores yesterday and right in the front entrance I was shocked to see Craftsman tool boxes. Curious, I went over to the tool department. More Craftsman tool boxes. But no tools......as of yet. I am guessing they will soon be selling tools as well if they are selling the boxes now.

I knew it was coming but was still surprised to see Craftsman tool sets and tool boxes on the shelf at our local Lowes yesterday. The tool box set looked to be a new design.

Well, considering that Craftsman is owned by Stanley/Black & Decker - the world's largest toolmaker, it shouldn't come as a surprise.

They already have a bunch of ratchet/socket sets here, as well as some 10 piece wrench sets. Also saw some USB rechargeable head lamps and flashlights, and some Craftsman pressure washers. Riding mowers coming later this year I believe.

My store has a display of tool boxes and tools. Glad to see it in a way, and hope they get back to USA manufacturing.

Certainly possible.

Kmart used to sell cman

Because Kmart owns Sears.

ACE was the only retailer outside the Kmart/Sears family to sell Craftsman tools under license from Sears.

But now that Stanley owns the brand, I expect this will spread to other retailers and water down the brand even more. After having difficulty getting hand tools replaced under warranty from Craftsman, I have kinda gone to other brands (Kobalt, Husky) or have been looking for older stuff. Heck, even HF stuff has gotten better. I have an older HF impact socket set I got from friends wife when he passed. I just looked at a newer set at HF.....big difference in quality. The newer ones look just as stoudt as any name brand ones, but only a fraction of the cost, plus they were made in Taiwan.

i had to run to lowes last night to pick up some PVC pipe and fittings...

#1 i wasnt happy about going there on a friday night, especially a holiday weekend

#2 the had so much CM "stuff" down the main isle way i could barely get a cart down through there. heading to the checkout was even worse with 10ft sections of PVC

i just want to get in and out without having to run a gauntlet/obstacle course

WTF people

Stopped by Lowes this evening for some paint - more Craftsman tools on display, all hand tools & boxes. And the boxes on display were the big ones with BIG tall drawers, just what I wouldn't want. And I'm not partial to that huge barbecue grill lid on the top boxes.

Any way, right at the entrance is this wrench display & a pitch for a free set if you apply for a Lowes credit card. I have one, but the wife doesn't. :bounce:

Took her all of 5 minutes to apply & get approval for one, so free wrench set.
Pic of set, followed by a comparison shot of 2 of my older wrenches and one from the new set. The box end on the oldest one (-V-) is thinner wall, but the -VV- and the new one look the same size. The raised panel on the new one is more highly polished. Anyone know who is sourcing the new one?
