Anyone else notice that Zoro has good prices on the Proto (i.e. Grip-on re-branded) locking pliers lately? On top of that, they currently have a 20% off promotion (promo code INSEASON) running through 6/8 and free shipping for orders $50 and over.

I've been on the look out for several months for a good deal on Grip-on pliers, and so far only came across one, which was the $25 deal on Amazon for the 12-inch optimum grip pliers.

Well, I think I just started and completed my collection in one go. I picked up 10 of the Proto/Grip-on locking pliers in all different shapes and sizes for an average of $16.40 per plier (of course average cost probably isn't a good metric, since it'd be normal-ish price for some of the smaller sizes).

https://www.zoro.com/search?categor...iers&categoryl3=Locking+Pliers&brand=PROTO&q=

  • Locking Plier,Plain Grip,9-1/4" L - $12.40 (this is a really good deal)
  • Locking Plier,Plain Grip,9-27/32" L - $14.78 (this too)
  • Locking Plier,Plain Grip,9-1/4" L - $15.60
  • Locking Plier,Plain Grip,9-4/11" L - $18.28
  • Locking Plier,Plain Grip,9-1/32" L - $23.96
  • Locking Plier,Plain Grip,7-15/32" L - $15.23
  • Locking Plier,Plain Grip,7-15/32" L - $14.83
  • Locking Plier,Plain Grip,7-7/8" L - $14.22
  • Locking Plier,Plain Grip,6-29/32" L - $15.20
  • Locking Sheet Metal Clamp,8",3/8" Cap. - $20.46

There are a few others as well in the link above.

I got mine on zoro, 3 piece set for like $45. Only down side is they're painted, which means the vice-grips still get used for welding grounds.

I'm very happy with mine, but check out Bollman grip on HJE. Jaws are a bit wider, similar release mechanism. Nice to have both brands in the box, right? :)

I have some of the black ones and they are pretty nice, I also have some of the newer style made by facom and they are really nice.

better than amazon, thanks for posting. I'm still kicking myself in the head for passing up on the milwaukee 10 piece set of locking pliers.

These are definitely painted then and not black oxide correct?

No problem. FYI, buying the 3 pliers individually that are in the 3-piece set is a few dollars cheaper right now than the set itself. The set is currently $56.99 - 20% = $45.59, while the 3 pliers individually are $18.54 + $15.50 + $19.00 = $53.04 - 20% = $42.43. Good deal either way though!

The product pages say down in the details that they are black epoxy coated, which would make them the same as the Grip-on pliers, just all black instead of black and orange.

Maybe I'm "special" but when I go to Zoro the INSEASON code is only for Lawn & Garden and there's a minimum purchase of $150.

Best regards,

Scott

I do see the $150 minimum purchase now that you mention it. Didn't see that earlier... I wonder if they just changed it or something. But it says at the top of the details page for the promotion that it's for 6 categories, and when you scroll down, it shows Tools as one of them.

For what it's worth, you can also get 15% off without the $150 minimum by subscribing to their newsletter if you haven't already, and these are still good deals at 15% off.

MrSpeed,

Interesting...

Here's the "coupon" picture at the top of the home page when I go to Zoro.com
It's just Lawn & Garden here.

When I click on it, THEN it takes me to a page where the other eligible categories are mentioned.

Zoro seems to have a broader view of Lawn & Garden than I would have imagined. Ha!

Thanks!

Best regards,

Scott
