Impact Driver Hex Adapter

Hey guys, I am looking for a hex adapter for my M18 Milwaukee fuel impact driver. I bought these (https://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwauk...PIPHorizontal2_rr-_-203114918-_-205468098-_-N) and they fall right out of the driver. Does anyone know of any really short 1/4" or even a whole set with 3/8" and 1/2" that I can buy?

I just bought a whole set of 1/4" sockets and don't really want individual hex sockets. I really would like an adapter that works.

I bought mine at Habor Freight and had two that came with the Milwaukee driver kit. Those aren't the right ones you bought.

You need this style. Notice they are longer and have a detent toward the rear of the shank that locks it into the driver.

Those are made for drills. The impact driver version is longer with a milled groove near the end. Milwaukee, Bosch, Dewalt and others make the correct ones.

The only really short ones I have found were a no name loose item on clearance at tractor supply. They have held up well though.

Apex makes a set with the power groove that are said to be the shortest. I have three brands. Dewalt, Kobalt & I think Black & Decker. The latter set I got at Walmart & they're the shortest of the three & I believe had all three drive sizes.

No - THOSE adapters are made to be used with Milwaukees quick change driver kit with magnetic extensions, or their magnetic locking extensions. They are not meant to be used directly in a Tools chuck. They are not drill adapters, although you can use them if you wanted to that way. What you want is the 1/4" hex adapters with the power slot on the bottom.

The purpose or idea, is that you can use a 3" to 12" extension, and quickly change bits on the extension, while retaining the extension in the power tool. Those actually work really well on their magnetic locking extensions. Their is zero play when those lock in.

I went the OPPOSITE way with my M12 Fuel Impact. It has a 3/8" drive and I use the Milwaukee 48-03-4405 Shockwave 3/8-Inch Square by 1/4-Inch Hex Adapter

The other type of adapters loose too much torque.

Ah ok. I guess I need the "power groove". I might just get the Apex ones. They are a bit pricey, but I really only need the 1/4" one anyway. I like that its super short.

I have the Apex one. I use it to spin a small engine over with a drill when I'm checking the magneto for spark. The quality is fantastic.

The really short bits like a Phillips driver from Milwaukee similar to that, will fit the tools chuck - but it seems like the shoulder on the nut drivers prevents them from being able to lock into the chucks on the tool. Which is weird, cause they will lock into Milwaukee's locking extension.. if you get a chance, buy one, just to see for yourself. It's amazing how tight those bits lock into them.

I have the similar 1/2" square to 1/4" hex, just to get away with having one impact in the vehicle. It is easy to shear the 1/4" hex to 1/2" adapters on most any decent impact.

Came across this 1/2" drive to a 7/16" hex adapter last night on ebay. Figure I can use larger auger bits & similar made for linesman impacts now on my 1/2" wrenches.

Those work better on impacts that have a pin detent. That also needs a ship auger bit with 7/16 hex drive that has a power slot. It kinda defeats the purpose of having a bit that locks in, when the adapter doesn't lock onto the impact. They should have included a set screw that would tighten down on a 1/2" anvil. It'll work, but the drill bit and adapter may like to come off the impact when trying to pull the bits out of the hole.

Doesnt have to have a pin indent, if the 1/2" square anvil has a whole thru ca use a roll pin. I just use a short pin and insulation around the adaptor body, works a treat.
