Mrs LesserSon, my father, and I headed out this morning for the Blue Ridge flea market near Saylorsburg, PA. It was PACKED! Pop and I deployed from the entrance, while Mrs L congenially parked the car. Right away I picked a Plomb stubby screwdriver from a 50cent bin. It had the tip ground sharp, so I took a couple pics and reluctantly put it back. Methodically traced the convoluted contours of the table rows, picking a couple items along the way. About two hours in, decided it was time to meet up w/Mrs L, whom we had not yet seen, and make a drop at the car. Mrs LesserSon surprised me with a Fathers Day present. She had paid 25cents - what could it be? That little Plomb! What a gal. And a mind-reader, apparently.
The rest of the haul cost me $7.50:
A Stanley 16oz rip hammer, an LS Starrett hacksaw to go with the blades I got yesterday, a round file with a handle I think may serve to make two faces for a soft-face hammer, three trapezoid-marked Duro 1/2dr sockets (arrg! The 31/32 has a crack on the rim!), a Stanley tack lifter, a Par-X Phillips screwdriver, a Bonney DOE, a Dunlap combo, and the same Bonney-branded XceLite nutdriver I’d left behind last year.
What a great Fathers Day!

(one of my gifts from DD#1 is apparently a new game that everyone is excited about - we're very competitive!)
This was the new game your host got for Father's Day.

Pic 4-6 little red hammer. It has a small triangle forge mark with something inside.

3Bay -

I'm going to show my age on this one. I believe that is one of the little hammers that some fire alarm pull stations had back in the 40s-50s. At least as I remember from the 50s. The 'Break Glass Before Using' kind. But I have no idea as to the forge mark.

Drove an hour & half to an estate tool sale Friday morning. They had a pic of the Snap-on toolbox that's the top to my bottom box but they wanted too much for it on Friday. Managed to root out the punch & chisel set, some other punch sets, couple of pullers and some sockets.

Guy says 25% discount on Saturday...so I drove all the way back there Saturday morning and bought the top toolbox! Now I just have to figure out how to get it out of the back of my Escape and up onto the bottom box!

Got up early and hit the Sunday flea, there's usually a different set of vendors. Picked up a few things. Got home and cleaned stuff up and added the old screwdriver from yesterday's haul. It seems pretty old and has a logo stamped into the shank. But I cant make it out. I really like it! I'm developing a thing for these old wood handled drivers. When I got there one guy had a pretty good size rail made anvil. He says $5. I couldn't leave it there. So, I left it there.... and walked all over. When I came back to pick it up he says dang it! I had three different people wanting to buy it for $25!! haha Nope mine!

I think he hit that nail on the head! :D

Rickster: 2X4 or 6 ramps direct from the rig to the top of the box...
Long enough on the box side to bridge the box so when you get "over center" you can still center it, then position side to side, then lift and remove.

RT nice find and great price on the RRT anvil!

I missed out on a good looking "by appointment" tool sale. The pictures showed a big pile of plomb wrenches, but they were gone by the time I could get there. As a consolation prize, I picked up a basket-o-sockets; mostly Craftsman and husky with a few plombs mixed in. Also found a WF-37 breaker bar, an SK 1/2" ratchet, and an early non reversible SK 40170 with 2 drive plugs. I guess I saved money in the long run...

Another work busy weekend. Did like the herbrand scewdriver and adjustable. The knife sharpener was .50 in a kitchen box.

A threat of thundershowers kept many of the regular vendors away from the Tahoe flea but I picked up a few items anyway. Several Craftsman 1/4” drive metric sockets and some chrome Blackhawk sockets. A couple file handles and a pebble combo. The screwdrivers are New Britain and Proto but the ignition pliers are unbranded.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge, I’d have never guessed that. I’ve been Google searching but haven’t come up with an exact match, though it has the look and the color of some of those glass breakers.

Went to the Lombard Flee Market in Portland. They had lots of good stuff but everyone was looking at the 1909 leather plated Indian motorcycle. Didn't ask how much, it was already sold. :pimpflash

That looks like it would draw a crowd. Nice.

I think he hit that nail on the head! :D !

:lol_hitti

Ragtop- looks like you had a good FD. Just to comment on the screwdriver, I wonder if it’s German. I had a couple chisels with that steel band that were marked Germany, IIRC. No help on the logo though.

LS - sounds like an awesome Fathers Day too, going out with your dad to the flea. That would never happen in a million years for me. I think I got my dad out estate saleing once, maybe twice, when I first got into it. He liked the idea of finding a treasure, but quickly realized it involved huge crowds and tight spaces, and he had no idea what he was looking at! Not his thing. I did get my 4’ Ridgid pipe wrench on the one trip with him, and we turned it into a trip to go show his brother, who I think thought I was nuts for bringing the thing into his house. Two peas in a pod, they were not the handymen of their siblings.

Catfish you did good there. Found a hard to find SK ratchet! Nice.

Rickster- Nice haul! Looks worth the trek. As always you find the good stuff.

CB- nice Snap On box haul. Thought I had put that in the last post. That’s some good storage. I need to find a small roller of some kind eventually.
Just to get a couple other little chests up out of the way

Well, a wild couple of days, no? Good finds everyone! I had an estate sale on Friday I went to, from my least favorite company around here to deal with. They always pack things up together as lots, not allowing you to break things up. *****. Saw some interesting things, but I don't need $20 worth of GG Craftsman just for a P&C swivel, or 10 nail sets for one possible Starrett punch. And I know they clean up the spaces before the sail, throwing away who knows what. In any case, here is what I got for $6:
20180617_132505.jpg
P&C driver (needs a bit of blade attention), slightly crooked C-clamp, Truth hook spanner and a mini plumbers wrench (Rigid)
Today I went to the Salem Model A auto show and swap, and at the second table I spot the following:
20180617_135648.jpg
Check the price, yeah that is coming home with me;
20180617_135723.jpg
Then picked up this little set of wooden drawers for $30 (prices were all over at this swap)
20180617_135633.jpg
Then I hit the dollar table, geting a Bog piston groove cleaner and a cool double sided box I am going to use for electical components. Also found a rusty Husky, Proto LA 1" 3/4 drive socket and a pulley I might be able to use on the .25 table.
20180617_135623.jpg
Hit a couple sales after that with no luck and called it fathers day with a burrito (machaca!)

Outlaw, I actually have one little one already, I'm going to work on this one to make it more like the smaller one I have. I also have a couple of other pieces of rail, even a foot and half of mainline and a train car coupler! that thing weights almost 100 lbs!! My daughter's bf works on the trains here as a conductor.

Hit up the flea market today and found a few goodies.

Plomb WF-82, two Vlchek slip joint pliers (one of which is destined for the Lugzsonian), and one of two mini lineman(?) pliers (this one is by Pexto, I gave another to my Dad for his travel tool kit). The weird find of the day is the GE AC clamp meter with leather case (that needs some love). I'm currently letting some epoxy dry as the bakelite case had some cracks.

Shop 51 was the electrical shop at the shipyard I worked at for the Navy. I worked in shop 99 the temporary services shop. We supplied the cable, breakers, lighting and ventilation for all the other shops during submarine overhauls. We also did the fire alarm, phone systems and gas tested the tanks and voids for explosive levels.

It was fun. :beer::beer::beer:

Very cool and thanks for the background on the history of the voltmeter/ammeter! Where was the shipyard, if you don't mind my asking? It indeed has a Navy calibration sticker, although it is slightly overdue (sticker says the cal is due in Sep 1973). LOL.

BMW you ****! Now why didn't you average things out and buy that Plomb puller in the box for $100.00?

I'll be posting my pickings from that swap meet soon.

Friday I had to run parts in town, and stopped by a garage sale that didn't look promising. However, when I got to looking, it turned out OK.

Adapter for Acetelyne tanks to use a rental tank regulator on a private tank. Aluminum speed square, like new Stanley 25 foot tape measure, Diamalloy (Diamond Calk Horseshoe Co.) side cutters, Husky screwdriver, and and Ace tap handle missing one jaw, all for $3.00.

Sunday was P&C day at the Salem Swap Meet, at least for me!

Photo 1: P&C 2822 DOE, 2714 Combo, 6215 Speed Handle, 6238 Hinge Handle, N87 DBE, Odd 13/16x7/8 stamped P&C with no model number, 2232H DBE, 2225 DBE, 2218 DBE, and a #74 punch. The ratchet is an Action 77A which appears to have been made by P&C. The right hand DBE wrench (15/16x1") is marked "Chromal No. 18733C" but is very similar to the round-shank P&C's, just a deeper offset. Does anyone know if P&C would have made this wrench?

Photo 2: P&C marking on the mystery 13/16x7/8 wrench

Photo 3: Lettering on one side of the mystery wrench near one end.

Photo 4: Lettering on the other side of the mystery wrench near the other end.

Photo 5: 13/16 size marking on the mystery wrench.

Photo 6: 7/8 size marking on the mystery wrench.

Plomb items from the Salem Swap Meet.

Photo 1: Pebble 1236 1-1/8 combo, WF-18 extension, 1134 5/8x11/16 DBE, 3027 DOE, Plomb-like 1/4 spinner with markings worn off, #96 punch, #710 dual-marked 10" adjustable, Plomb-like hinge handle that appears to be about a 1940-era (it has no markings, but is identical to the 18A catalog illustration, and the knurling on the handle matches that on my oldest P&C #6238 hinge handle), 3347 13/16 deep socket.

Photo 2: Close-up of the dual marked adjustable.
Photo 3: Other side of the dual marked adjustable.

Mixed items from Salem Swap Meet.

Photo 3: Greenfield No. 7 Tap Handle, Mechinicraft obstruction wrench, one Starrett and three Craftsman punches, Vanadium 13/16 angle DOE, Barcalo combos in 7/16, 13/16, and 1-1/16, Challenger 22mm, Craftsman =V= 22mm, Channellock linesman's pliers, Irwin screwdriver, Proto 9/16 and SK 1-1/8 sockets. The 22mm wrenches are for the imported clamping sets for my milling machine and drill press.

Photo 4: Four toe clamps and two sharp 1" roughing mills for my milling machine. These were my most expensive purchase. ;)

I figured out that the Cromal wrench is made by Williams. No relation to P&C.

The Action ratchet is a sub-brand of Thorsen, which explains the resemblence to P&C.

I believe that the Action ratchet is a clone of it’s Thorsen cousin and although similar in appearance had no relationship to the P&C ratchets.

I had a pretty good day at the flea market on Father's day. Lots of sockets and wrenches followed me home.

Shop 51 was the electrical shop at the shipyard I worked at for the Navy.
Who'd've thunk it!? That is one of the coolest things I have ever seen happen on this thread, since the very first thread back in 2012!!

I figured out that the Cromal wrench is made by Williams...[ ]...The Action ratchet is a sub-brand of Thorsen...
I have a Williams Cromal DBE wrench. I'll find it and compare markings. On the Action ratchet, I found a whole 1/2-inch drive set last year. I'm not a big Thorsen nut by any means, but I was very impressed. My rat is open head style with a removable spring steel clip to keep the crud out. Link here.

Very cool and thanks for the background on the history of the voltmeter/ammeter! Where was the shipyard, if you don't mind my asking? It indeed has a Navy calibration sticker, although it is slightly overdue (sticker says the cal is due in Sep 1973). LOL.

Wow! It looks like everyone did well this weekend. I had some good finds as well.

1. Couldn't pass on this older Milwaukee 1/4" hole shooter. I'm sure it'll wind up on the polisher's thread before too long.

2. U.S.N. MK2 fighting knife. I was surprised how good the edge is on it. Usually I find these type of knives have been driven through wood with a hammer or worse from the back edge.

3. L.L. Bean Hudson bay style axe with sheath made by Snow & Neally. Ive been wanting one of these style axes forever. Its still has the original leather sheath although the strap is stretched beyond use.

4. My personal favorite of the weekend. Coleman 228J dated 3/1976 in original box. I almost fell over when the owner suggested $1! Inside the box was the original paperwork, several packs of mantles, a funnel, and what I am sure is some kind of extreemly rare one off Coleman glass fuel bottle. If anyone wants to start a bidding war over it I am open to offers:spit: Hard to believe this lantern cost $30 in 1976! It looks as though they lit it once to burn the mantles and then never again. There wasnt even any soot on the inside of the globe or ventalator! Somebody please tell me why I cant stop buying these things!!!!!
