Hello,

To bring in more natural light to my garage project I am considering putting a glass door on the back (south) end of the building.

The garage door size will be 10x10. The garage will have eventually have HVAC so I'm wanting an insulated door. Security is not a huge issue but more secure would be nice.

Anyone have experience with a door like this? Suggestions for brands, etc..

Not the insulated option you're looking for but I'm considering installing one of these soon:

Apologies on not being able to hyperlink. Haven't reached my post count yet being a newbie to the board.

Thanks.

I'm looking for something like this. Frosted glass, insulated, etc.

Haven't been able to find one that says it is insulated. Just beginning my search so any brands you recommend to buy or stay away from would be great.

They may not make them -- weight, cost and safety.

May want to give these a look:

Looks like insulation to the frame can be added as an upgrade.

I would think about skylights instead.
No heavy moving parts.
Much more secure.
Light gets further back into the room.

I put in 2 and could not be happier.
Even after 6 inches of rain in 24 hours.

Clopay used to make a full vision door with insulated glass option. However, the extruded aluminum frame was hollow and open on the ends so there was no thermal value there. You may also look into a conventional door well insulated with several panels having insulated glass in frames. Just some ideas.

I have more questions than answers.
There are many options for windows depending on the manufacturer. Full glass are used in car washes, fire departments, etc. Again depending on the manufacturer the r value will change. Keep in mind windows really aren't great for insulation and go more with U value.

You didnt post were you live. So it's hard to recommend a door for your area.

Here are a couple pictures of some doors we did for a customer. The glass is frosted with the mid size choice he could pick. We could have gone a bit larger with the glass and put in 2 more across the panel in every section. Could have installed different types of window including bronze glass. Also we offer options on the color of the panels, including custom.
