So I'm looking to see if anyone recognizes this marking on a 15" 3/8 drive extension. its not chrome but the zinc looking stuff they used during the war, so I'm thinking its war years.

The rest of the extension is as plain as they come other than a 5/16 hole for a bar in the female end. :dunno:

Haven't posted anything lately, so I have some catching up to do. Forgive the long post.

First up, I hit an estate sale at an old farm homestead not far from me. Chainsaw runs and cuts fine, just needs a new band for the chain brake. $40.
IMG_1566.jpg

Fairly large med kit with a few original contents and some "newer" items from the 90's I'm guessing. $10
IMG_1559.jpg
IMG_1560.jpg

Another $15 got me the following, plus a few yard tools not pictured.
IMG_1574.jpg

The Safety can is surprisingly clean and rust free inside. The cat's paw is of interest to me because it's not only from my home town of Raleigh, but Leeseville is a tiny community on the outskirts and where the estate sale was held. Couldn't find any reference to the Imperial Casket Co. ever being in this area.

Two trips to the local Restore got me the following for $11. I especially like the 4oz. CM "Professional Mechanic" marked hammer. I paid another $10 for the Proto 720-S.
IMG_1567.jpg
IMG_1575.jpg

Last week I made my first purchase at a pawnshop. The ones around me are ridiculously overpriced, but I got the following CM USA for $10.
IMG_1573.jpg

About the same time, I scored this CM 8 drawer roller with bearing sliders off of LetGo for $70. Not a steal, but it's in good shape and I need the storage.

This week I answered an ad on OfferUp for a 30 gal Eagle safety cabinet for $50. I message the guy (it was at a thrift store) and immediately head over. Unfortunately the handle was missing and one of the feet was stoved in. It was also bigger than I need or have space for, but I poked around some more and brought home the following for $15. The SO ratchet driver is missing the end cap, but after tearing it down and cleaning it up, it's as smooth as butter.
IMG_1568.jpg

The seal puller and plug wire puller were from the flea. Think I paid $3 total. I also got this ugly but sound Kennedy for $20.
IMG_1565.jpg

Tonight I responded to a CL ad for "Tools and tool box". The pics looked promising so I meet the guy. He comes with a large Rubbermaid tool box that was one of his "floating" boxes he kept at his vacation place that he just sold. The pliers and adjustables are all CM professional.
IMG_1556.jpg

The hammer, 1/2 and 3/8 low profile ratchets and the sockets are all USA. 5/16 - 7/8 and 9 - 18mm. The socket trays are magnetic.
IMG_1557.jpg

Last but not least is a set of CM professional combos 1/4" - 1", and a set of CM USA deep offset DBE's 3/8 - 15/16".
IMG_1558.jpg

The majority of these tools were never used, just a few scratches from being loose in the box. $80 for all.

Private Lugnutz, No need to go after seller. Remember: if every seller was educated about tools, there would be no deals.
If anything - we should send those sellers a free bottle of Vodka for Christmas!!!

Picked up this Hazet Tourist tool kit for 10 dollars at an estate sale last week. It is complete with all the original tools and doesn’t appear to have been used. The bolts for mounting it are still on the back.

Wow. Looking back, lots of suckage in the past week everyone!

Boofer-that’s quite a nice haul.

Tin- that’s a big time You ****! Great find.

JMlangford - I don’t know what that’s all worth but I think that looks like a **** worthy haul right there. My guitar friends would be impressed.

The mid week flea was good to me once again. Someone had an old Craftsman home owner top chest loaded with machinist stuff and miscellaneous. After a quick look, I asked how much for all, and he said the bottom cabinet (and contents) goes with it. He says all for $100. I countered at $70. He said $80 and threw in a nice Williams chisel set I was looking at.

Not the prettiest but not too bad. The box was loaded with little doodads, random machinist tools, a collection of push drills, plus the original paperwork.

My appreciation for picking in uninformed markets is well-established with all the regulars on this thread, Shelbylex. But some cases - and their sellers (who apparently live in bubbles, without common sense and internet access) - are so outrageous that they deserve special mention, all in hyperbolic good fun.

Pics cont.. It’s hard to see what everything is. The bottom cab contents are still in a separate tote bin, I didn’t get pics.

A few gems that came in the deal:

Old Blue Point 2oz ball peen.
Crescent Toolzall multi tool. Never had a look at one before.
Williams like new chisel set, other than some goo on the pouch.

More pics tomorrow hopefully of other items I bought .

Went to a sale yesterday via Facebook Marketplace. I had texted the guy earlier and we set up an appointment. There was a serious threat of rain so I grabbed a couple tarps and a buddy and off we went. Got home before the rain and unloaded into my already packed garage:

I'll be sorting for days if not weeks, already over 400 Craftsman sockets,40 drive tools and extensions,Snap On ,SK Proto, well rep'd as well. Pipe tools from Ridgid, Parker tubing benders,Wilton C-clamps. I've already sold the larger Craftsman box and an apprentice is stopping by this evening to pick up the black C'man stack as a gift/pay it forward deal.

Anyone have any experience with these blue-point locking pliers from Spain? I recently learned the value of good vice grips with my curved-jaw pair from china was destroyed while on the other end of a puller while pulling dents.

Dang Alinc, that looks like you hit a good one.

These are my other flea finds aside from the Craftsman box buy. $17 for all.

Pic 1- all four piece are Ridgid. Guess it was a Ridgid day which is better than a frigid day.

Pic 4- Atha wrecking bar. Neat looking piece. Seller didn’t want to sell anything separately from the box of carpet tools it was in. I’m not trying to get in the carpet trade. I went back and asked nicely and he sold it separate.

Pic 5, 6- Ford marked Herbrand pliers. Never found a Ford by Herbrand before. Almost lost the deal when the same seller above grabs them and says “what’s special about these? Hmmm, made by Ford, not sure they could be worth some money”. I thought goodbye pliers. Then he charged me 50 cents. :headscrat:lol_hitti:)

Pic 7- Bell System hammer.

Also, nos Lufkin rule to go with the Ridgid, Milwaukee blades, Ecklind set, Craftsman offset driver, Channellock and Stanley Sweetheart screwdrivers, misc bits and blades, 2 Snap On sockets, Junkunc lock with key, Herbrand phillips socket.

Most of a set of 1/2 Blackhawk sockets in there. Some SK and others.
Some tiny drill bits.
A couple small squares, Starrett and Lufkin.
Brown & Sharpe vise.

And a number of things I have no idea what they are or how to use them.

Won this nice Matco Plum Purple toolbox at an Online Estate Auction. Ended up getting it for $450 plus tax. Its 44" wide x 22" deep. Should go nice with my HF 44". Will be picking it up on Tuesday.

Just got the same small drill stand at a sale last weekend. Looks like several angle and height gages. Are those radius gages in the top left? Haven't seen a set looking like that before.

Man you guys! And mid week too!

I also have one of those mini 61-80 drill stands, Mine is missing the cover (I didn't even know it HAD a cover... and I'm missing bits..

I also recently got one of those rag cans! at an auction. The can and a military 5 gallon water jug cost me $22.50. + tax and buyers premium.

Bobcat, you will love the Matco! roller slides I assume?

Pretty neat looking siphon guns there.

Yeah, how they made those up. If that’s something you can use lmk.

3Bay, in pic 2 of your third post, in the lower left, you have a package of a couple of ratcheting drivers? (red adn black knobs) can you show the business ends of those? they seem to come in many varieties. My most recent one has a female hex drive in it with a 1/4" flat screw driver bit.

I picked up a Bretford rolling cart/stand for cheap. I'm not sure what I'm gonna do with it but it's pretty cool. If it had (better) locking casters I'd use it as a chop saw stand.

Cheers

Jim

3Bay, in pic 2 of your third post, in the lower left, you have a package of a couple of ratcheting drivers? (red adn black knobs) can you show the business ends of those? they seem to come in many varieties. My most recent one has a female hex drive in it with a 1/4" flat screw driver bit.

a Socketool and a Versatool, but they aren’t branded Shelton. Check out the price.
