"Today I hit the small local flea again. Found some wrenches, and a guy with some rusty old tool boxes traded me a TRUTH Ratchet and chisel for a burrito! Not a bad deal in my opinion!"

ALL HAIL RAGTOP, BURRITO MASTER OF TOOLS!!!

(nice job on the Truth rat)

hah thanks! this guys a nut, he's funny. He's always a vendor up there but is an ADD type. He will sell anything off his trailer and work truck. I looked through his old boxes and found them, Never found any Truth stuff I was excited but didn't let one. Asked how much for this small pile. He says $7. But he didn't have change for a $20 so I said Im gonna go get a burrito and get some change brb. He says how about just bring me a burrito and well be even? Hell yea!
Pic of Burrito attached... they are amazing!

I think that’s a Wilton Fowldarr. Looks like you made out alright.

X2

Ragtop I’ll trade you a couple burritos and couple slices of pizza for that Truth. Nice score.

Thanks! I really liked that deal!

Also pictured is the huge Racoon running amock. Someone caught him at home and brought him to the flea in a cage and let him go. He hauled *** out across the lot to the tree line and fields next to it.

Not bad for $200 total!

You ****, Matt. Those are really nice.

Picked up 8 items from the $1 table:

P1090446.jpg

Where is this magical $1 table full of Snap On??

ALL: big surprise I found another vise. yep, but this one is a KEEPER cause it's a Craftsman 5191 and it's going in my woodshop cause it's been in the past owner's woodshop since 1957.

That thing is beautiful, Drives. What size jaws?

You guys definitely find some cool stuff out there....

Found a moving sale everything must go so it went with me for $50.....

Going to be sorting this for a while. Not too bad considering I really didn't get to go through the containers before hand. But I see a lot of New Britain, blackhawk, craftsman, some snap on, lots of cool older stuff along with all the apartment maintenance materials.

His flea market table is 99% junk but every tool is $1. It's usually old rusty Chinese ****, no name wrenches, broken stuff, etc. Apparently he doesn't separate out the good stuff like most sellers.

I had to do some digging but was able to resurrect these guys.

The BP adjustable's head was rusted shut but after a 30 minute Evaporust dip it's good as new.

Picked up this Hazet Tourist tool kit for 10 dollars at an estate sale last week. It is complete with all the original tools and doesn’t appear to have been used. The bolts for mounting it are still on the back.

Boofer: my Craftsman 5191 vise is 4 inch wide jaw and guessing 20-25 pounds of goodness. here's a thread I started trying to find out which company made these awesome vises and my educated guess without real hard proof yet is that Rock Island vise company made this line of vises for Sears/Craftsman in the late 40's and 50's.

https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=351100

here's a close up of the jaws and the vise again so others just tuning in can see what an old Craftsman vise looks like that might be one of the best user vises made.

ALL: I picked up this small Eron vise that I think was made in England, but might have already moved their factory to Taiwan or Japan by then. it's got a fairly stout swivel design for a 3 inch 20 pound vise.

Read the entire thread yesterday afternoon. Good read. I recall that Craftsman 519x was one of the first vises I saw here on GJ and I immediately liked it. A 519x and a RI vise are definitely on my wish list for future vises. Never thought I'd find a Reed, now I've owned two so I'm hopeful I'll find my 519x and my Rock Island vises. Thanks for your help and advice in these pursuits Drives!

Guy had a huge cornwell box full of stuff he said he needed to sell. My FIL buys thousands of dollars in tools at a time in bulk to resell. Guy said that sounds great. Tried to contact him for days with the FIL in town. He never answered my messages. But he continued to post tools for sale on FB. Weird.

$20 for this used but well taken care of set.

Not a garage sale, but free. So I think they belong here.

S-K tool box. Rusty fittings, but straight, includes the interior tray, and you can still see the original paint on the inside. Prior owner welded on a hasp. The weld is not pretty, but looks sturdy. Maybe I'll take a grinder to it gently. Does anyone know the right paint color for S-K?

McCulloch "Eager Beaver" chain saw. The motor is not seized, and it looks like it just needs a cap for the oil or gas tank, and a through-bolt for the handle. (I guess this saw has auto-mix. Anyone know?)

It's amazing what people leave at the dump in this town. You could get a lawn mower every week.

Tex: one of these days i'll look at your collection of vises and tools and say one day mine was a little bigger. you are in a tough part of the world to find a ton of them cause there are several collectors in your area that could be museums, but you'll do fine if you just keep looking and asking for stuff. that said don't buy in to renting storage units to hold it or even the FREE DEALS cost a lot. good luck and you're welcome if i've helped in any small way.

You need to recalibrate your arm. Try 53 pounds!

BB: i'll have to weigh it cause even though I'm working out a lot and the Craftsman 5191 is a solid vise I didn't think it weighed over 30 pounds much less over 50 pounds so i'll let you know when I mount it back on the stand.

ALL: Hope you all have safe, happy and fun 4th of July!!

Outlaw: i'll weigh it when i get a chance with a shipping scale I own that is pretty accurate and we can see how accurate your ads are. so mine being a 5/57 (May 1957) should weigh 52 adds less cardboard, but still a lot more than under 30 pounds like I was guessing.

thanks for digging into your Craftsman catalogs again and I still wish I could find a 5198 sitting on an old guy's bench that wanted something different or some cash.

Got these over last weekend. The Tap handles are brand new! The Williams 1/4dr was a cool find, works great too. Couple of Mac & Cornwell wrenches and assorted Mac & Snap-on sockets.

Very slow day for Yardsales, but a good day for Freecycle! Al from one guy clearing out old project materials:

1/2 HP Motor 3250 RPM, (slower speed if wired 220)

attachment.php

A Lab mixer plate, this has a variable speed control for the table to move in a circular motion. I'll rig a cradle for rattle cans, and a couple of retention springs, and this becomes my new paint can shaker. I don't think I'l be busting off the inside dip tube any more!

attachment.php

A couple of 12V batteries, surprisingly the orange one has the most amps. I'm charging them now to see if they are still usable...

attachment.php

A 1/20th HP Bodine motor with a speed and rotation controller. At very low speeds it seems to "pulse", so I need to see if that is normal of not...

attachment.php

An Orbit 4 station sprinkler controller; I found 2 doors after the pis was taken.

attachment.php

An Alarm panel setup

attachment.php

And there were two of these, which I believe are air flow controllers? - Need to google them.

And there were two of these, which I believe are air flow controllers? - Need to google them.

These are chemical or glue dispenser. They would have a air inlet, a foot switch or some input, an hose out and a syringe with a needle to dispense. Give it a start signal and it will give a timed pressure controlled output. We used them to dispense glue, solder paste, potting compound and others by hand or robot. They come in different brands, sizes and features.

I stopped at the Columbus NJ flea market this morning for the first time in years. Thursdays were always the big days out there, but it's on the other side of the state, which is just too danged far for me to drive on a work day, especially when it ends up being a bust. (My regular weekday flea market stops - Collingwood on Fridays, and Lakewood on Wednesdays and Fridays - are on my way to work.) I may have to start making Columbus a regular stop again, though, because it was hopping today despite the brutal heat (94* by 9AM!)

- A Bell & Howell 16mm Sound-on-Film "Utility" Speaker in the OD wood cabinet with March 1945 Signal Corps inspection stamps inside.

- Cornwell combination wrenches.

- Heller Brothers (from when they were in Newark, NJ, long before 'Ahia') farrier's knife marked 'PATENTED FEBRUARY 3, 1903' on the flip side of the handle

Picked up this Craftsman radial arm saw for $45, mostly for the base cabinet.

TEASER...
So, apparently I am now a collector of antique tool advertising. I bought some small signs of CL because they were all the right brands for me.. Starrett, Lufkin, Browne & Sharpe. I thought they might be reproductions because the pics looked a little too good. But that was OK because they should really go well with my displays.

Well I picked them up tonight and they are the real deal from a family run tool & die business in NJ that shut down in the 70s but had run 100 years before that. The signs stayed in the family with the children but it is now downsizing time for that generation.

I could not be happier. Pics will follow when I get home later. Do we have anyone here who might know anything about them?

My five year old is catching the bug. He brought this home from the neighbors. 59a4169add6961f6ce6010a29e6869d9.jpg93a5ffacdebf06c554a905e295c40c80.jpg

It’s a craftsman box. Has literature inside that indicates it is a ‘drill kit’ (without the drill)

Sounds awesome, can’t wait to see.

Tell him nice find there. Do you remember a few years ago, someone posted that box and asked what it was for? I can’t find the thread, but there were barely any pictures of one online. Is it yellow inside?
