I need to build a hitch mounted mud flap setup for an F350 with a class V hitch. The only bumper pull trailers we have utilize a 2" hitch, so we always leave the 2.5" to 2" adapter in place. What I'd like to do is make the mud flap mount out of the same material as the adapter sleeve, so we can leave it on (effectively becomes our adapter) and use it in conjunction with our 2" hitches. I know hitch tubing is different than standard square tubing in both size and seam, but I don't have the truck or adapter sleeve with me right now to take measurements Does anyone know what the size specs are on this material? I'd like to run by the metal supply tomorrow if I can get a definitive answer.

Receiver tube is 2 1/2'' x 2 1/2'' with a wall thickness of 15/64''. That'll leave you with 1/32'' of room inside for your 2'' x 2'' ball mount.

When I lived in Phoenix I went to Industrial Metal Supply. In their showroom they had some pre-cut 2" square tube marked for hitches. I also found some square tube in the drops for my Cruze's 1-1/4" receiver.

IMS is one of the few things I really miss from Phoenix... their drops were so well sorted that I could always find something that would do.

That's actually where I usually go. I used to go to American Metals in Mesa, but it seems like they've gone strictly structural steel. IMS is pricey at times, but they usually have what I need.

Sometimes that convenience comes at a price but well worth it when you do have to drive to several places looking for something that is "not that special."

So I went to IMS and got a piece of their hitch tubing and it's a **** hair big on the OD so I couldn't slide it into my receiver. The I.D. was nice and snug on the hitch, so that was a pleasant surpise. I'll hit the OD with a grinder and and it will be fine. $8.88 for a 12" piece.

The 2" hitch tubing my steel supplier sells is basically .030" over (inside and out) 2-1/2" x .250 wall tube (so 2.530" out, 2.030" inside) - if the piece you got is the same and you have a mill and a fly cutter, it'd probably be less painful to take an .030" cut off of two adjacent sides - just a thought...
