Moto: thanks for posting your ONLY Gertsner and it's a KEEPER that is for certain.

TRS: nice looking Proto box. sort of has the Beach look, but not quite and i don't think Beach made Proto boxes. i'm not certain so i'd like to hear what maybe other members know or have to say.

As part of a larger deal I picked up a couple pretty neat boxes today. The two drawer SK Wayne box looks nearly unused. I didn't find much in a quick online search for it so interested in any info. The Craftsman dome top is a little rougher but for $20 it has potential. Just needs a little TLC. A couple pics. Ed.

Orc- the cman dome top is a you **** deal for sure ! In that shape it would go for over $75 in the bay. It still also has the cantilever drawers which tons are missing including mine! Nice find!

I have an earlier version of the sk box. That one is sk wayne. The earlier versions had no slides and a smaller tray.

I'd probably be up for a little horse trading Brian. I tried to buy the smaller version of this box at Steam up a couple years ago but the seller wouldn't budge and I thought he was too high. This ones pretty big and will probably open and close nice and smooth once it's cleaned up. Just a little sticky now. Ed.

Ed- if we are talking the same vendor- I saw that one too. He wanted $100 at the time and would not come down... I saw him there this year and did not bother to ask the price.. all his other prices where very expensive

The look like stacking drawing/map drawers, but very old. I'm not seeing tops (those were sold separate for the top one in a stack)

They may be wood.

Now that I compare the stuff around it, they do look like they are the right size for maps. If they're metal, I'm going to try and get them. If wood, I don't think I'd be interested.

To me, anything less than $100.

The real question is what is it worth to you? You have the matching top after all.

A box like that could go for $30 because everyone thinks it's a rusty old box. If there's another guy in the room who wants it it could go for $150.

The top that I have.....a 100 seems high to me .....but I'm a cheap ***.....like you said most people see a old crappy box....there are some other interesting old Craftsman tools there as well....if I can get them....who knows8bb02ec1e2b28ffd265b32e343932f9d.jpg

That bottom roller would be an excellent match to your top chest. I hope you get it. Let us know how it works out.

Hopefully it's a "you ****" price

I'd suggest the following...figure out what "the set" of vintage Craftsman Heritage badged toolboxes are worth to you then subtract what you paid for the top chest and there's your max bid on the bottom. I bet you get it for less than that. Good luck!

$50 would be great, but....if it were me i'd have at least $200 in my wallet just in case..gotta be prepared.
i wouldnt want to pay that much, but ya never know when you'll get in a bidding war with some other tool box or craftsman nut/collector.
me personally i'd probably go $125-$140 tops.
although IF i had the top and was looking for the matching bottom i wouldnt let it get away.
that box aint super rare, but in decent shape and kinda close to home they really dont show up for sale often.

good luck and let us know what happens.

I just picked up this vintage Snap On KRA 58C, at first I was going to repaint it but the more I see it I want to preserve its character and all the vintage stickers.
It is solid and drawers work fine.
Only missing the key. Is there a way to get a replacement key using the number code on the outside of the lock?

Yes, any competent lock smith can cut the key to the code. (This is not a job for the magic "Key machines" or the corner hardware store with just a duplicator)

Take the lock in so they can find the blank and they can cut it very quickly.

Went to the Rogers Ohio flea market last Friday and picked up this Blackhawk toolbox for 8 dollars. It has some scratches and missing paint, but not a dent on it. It is approximately 20" x 9" x 7". I'm guessing it is from the 1930's or there about.

Good instincts. The CB box was used from 1935-1939. What's most interesting about your box is the set number on the astonishingly preserved decal. Set No. 38CB contained all cadmium-plated 1/2-inch drive tools. (Despite the conventional and yet quite erroneous wisdom among the collecting community for many years that cadmium on a found vintage tool automatically means WWII, cadmium was indeed used well before WWII as an economy line rust-proof finish compared to nickel- or chrome-plating. Blackhawk, Vlchek, and several other prominent mfgrs used it. When the war struck, and precious metals were restricted, cadmium became one of several alternatives to chrome-plating.) Set No. 38CB was a 1930's economy line alterative to the Junior Treasure Chest (Set No. 45CB), and the Hot Box (Set No. 27CB), which were chrome-plated.

I just picked up this wooden Union machinists' chest this morning at the flea market. Union (incarnation #4) sold these as a house-brand, but they also supplied them to Sears & Roebuck badged as Craftsman in the late 40's. I am going to restore it as a Craftsman box. Much, much more on that in a thread I plan to start as a sort of companion thread to Davefr's resto thread for his earlier Union box.

Nice chest Lugz. I really dig the unique pulls on the drawers.
Thanks. That's exactly the feature that drew me to the chest at the flea market! :)

When I inspected it and saw the Union name on the latch, it was a no-brainer. I was figuring 1930's. Only when I got home and conducted a little research did I discover that they were made in the 1940's and that they were also supplied to Sears & Roebuck for Craftsman chests! From 1943 to 1945 they had knob pulls. From 1945 to 1949 they had these cool little pressed steel formed pulls. (See pic.)

Again, more pics coming in a dedicated thread soon.
