I started with the greased lightning because it was free in a box at an auction but I ran out....so I bought some purple power out at The Dollar General.....Now a word of caution with the purple power it is concentrated and was lifting 60+ year old paint in certain areasWhat did you use for that kind of cleaning?

I ended up getting this today...
I just bought this set at an auction. The Snap On top cleaned up pretty good but the Cornwell is in rough shape. Dont know if I want to put the effort into restoring it.
That Cornwell box is sweet! That Cornwell box is sweet!
would leave the Corney as is, but I like patina.

That box has seen some work. I also like the patina. You might try to just preserve it a bit with some WD-40 and some 0000 steel wool if you want to avoid a total repaint.
If you decide to repaint it, be sure to share the finished product with us!![]()

Also I repainted the Mac top box but the emblem was missing. I included a pic of the emblem. If anyone knows where I could aquire it would be appreciated.
Spam, I am in the same boat with you as far as logos go. I need 4 different Snap-On ones and 2 Yorktowns. I just hate seeing those empty holes in my beautiful boxes! I wish someone could 3D print some for those of us who just want to fill the void. I would be happy to paint them myself. ANYONE???
That looks really good! I ordered a replacement lock for the Cornwell and if it works I will paint it up. No one has any hints on where to find mac tools logo for the other box? I have looked everywhere and struck out.

Good instincts. The CB box was used from 1935-1939. What's most interesting about your box is the set number on the astonishingly preserved decal. Set No. 38CB contained all cadmium-plated 1/2-inch drive tools. (Despite the conventional and yet quite erroneous wisdom among the collecting community for many years that cadmium on a found vintage tool automatically means WWII, cadmium was indeed used well before WWII as an economy line rust-proof finish compared to nickel- or chrome-plating. Blackhawk, Vlchek, and several other prominent mfgrs used it. When the war struck, and precious metals were restricted, cadmium became one of several alternatives to chrome-plating.) Set No. 38CB was a 1930's economy line alterative to the Junior Treasure Chest (Set No. 45CB), and the Hot Box (Set No. 27CB), which were chrome-plated.
That is freaking sweetI posted this on the Bonney thread, which is still stranded up on the General Discussion board (despite Bonney being out of business for decades), so I thought I'd post it here, too, to get more eyes and brainboxes on it as it's a bit of a puzzler.
I am 100% convinced the decal (1930's and 1940's Bonney logo) is original, over red paint, over steel. Strangely, though, this style of flip-top box, issued in massive quantities in WWII, is not included in any 1930's, 1940's, or early 1950's Bonney catalogs.
This box was made by Union Steel Chest Corp., in Leroy, NY. It looks just like the boxes they made for WWII GMTK's, and has the identical dimensions of a WWII GMTK box, but it has a deeper tote tray that sits deeper in the compartment, with a different socket tray layout, and no hole for the upright spout of a spring-bottom oiler (which makes sense, because an oiler wouldn't fit under the tray in such a shallow compartment anyway).
Regardless of the explanation, I am not hesitating to put my vintage Bonney tools inside of it. Right now they're in a wrought iron R.R. box.
I don't know how old this one is but it's one of my personal favorites!
Craftsman taco cart anyone https://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/tls/d/tool-box-service-cart-2-sided/6647015501.html
now that one is an oddity..
the badge on it tells me 70s/80s craftsman.
and the latch/lock on the locker door says waterloo.
the drawer pulls do look like a few 70s waterloo boxes i've seen/owned.
and the "cheap" vise on it?
i dont want it, but i am curious
