Went out for a few minutes and got this crappy buzzbox for $7.
I've been doing some reading and sounds like these are pretty much just a toy. But I only have 110 anyways so being able to do up to 1/8 steel is better than nothing. Plus I can get some practice in. Carbon arc torch looks a bit useful, heard it's works for heating up rusted stuff or bending. I got no oxy either so again it's better than nothing.

How’d I do for $10? Came across a garage sale today and to my suprise they had buckets full of old tools, mostly made in USA Craftsman from 1950-1980. I ended up buying this Red Head Manufacturing Co hand drill which turns fine, 6” made in USA c clamp (no company name on it though aside from “116” whatever that means), an adjustable brass bevel gauge, roller pin punch, and a neat little anvil. Any info on the hand drill would be appreciated!

One stop late this morning at a local estate sale. As I walked in I saw a Wilton Bullet Vise in a wagon in the front yard. Must have just missed it. Ran down to the basement to see what was left then thought about it and ran back up to see if the vise in the yard was sold.

The cashier didn’t know so she called her mom over. The mom said it was just pulled out of the shed by her husband and was available for $40. I quickly agreed but then she wanted to double check with him. He was somewhere else in the house and she kept calling his name from room to room. A minute later he showed up and agreed it wasn’t yet sold. So I pulled out $40, loaded it into my truck then continued looking.

It has a 1964 exp date and has a 4” jaw

Back down to the basement and found a bunch of stuff for another $30

For $10 you did fine. Check that jewelers anvil for markings, it may be worth $30 or $40 by itself if it is an old USA one.

Seems like a long time since I found a good garage sale. Found a decent estate sale today. Unfortunately it turned out it was the estate of a cool old guy I had built some stairs for a while back.

I found:
- a box full of =v= 1/4" tools with some 1/2 and 3/8 stuff thrown in.
- proto Los Angeles 8 and 10" adjustables.
- proto l.a. Dbe.
- plomb 5/8" swivel socket
- Craftsman rope braid 3/8" universal
- long c dbe.
- old snap on universal.

Took a quick break from helping my daughter switch apartments to check out the Franklin Mills flea market today. $4 bought this.

Millers Falls No 1408 angle bevel--$5

Those Millers Falls bevels are considered one of the rarest of the Buck Rogers line of tools. I sold the only one I ever found in the wild for $20, only to later see it at an antique tool dealer's store for $45.

Turned up some goodies today.

L to R:

Easco 20oz. rip claw hammer with "Easco Hand Tastic" curved handle. Didn't know Easco made claw hammers.

Pexto no. 81 tin snips, 12.75" long

Jacobs multi-Craft chuck, no. MC1, 0-1/4" capacity, with Jacobs no. K1 chuck key

1939 Snap-on TW-220 1/2 drive 11/16" 6 pt socket, looks almost new.

brand new Milwaukee metal sawzall blade

Small file handle, only marked "Made in USA"

Shaw "Lock Jaw" locking pliers (think I recall a thread about these on here...)

Last, Milwaukee 1000 lb. furniture dolly, like new. (Temporary home for 6" Prentiss until I procure a stout enough bench) $5- with everything else, $15 total.

Nothing but a car accident for me this morning.

Luckily no injuries but SWMBO's Cruze will need some attention. Great way to start my vacation...

I"m pretty sure those big Craftsman screwdrivers were made by Stanley - their Workmaster and Professional drivers from the 1970s and 1980s looked identical other than the color of the handle. I have a separate thread going on here about my collection of them.

 That thing is cool! If you had a Tesla car, that would be a neat thing to stick in the back window or dashboard just to see how long it took someone to see it, know what it was, get the association, and say something to you about it.

Nothing but a car accident for me this morning.
Yikes. That ***** and not in a good way. EDIT: OleSlew beat me to that one!

------------------------------------------------------

I stayed home to get some things done. There was no humidity and it was a perfect day for chores. Consequently, I missed both of my flea markets. The Patron Saint of Pickers has been smiling down on me lately so I figure I had better not push my luck. I did manage to get some hobby things done, too. I removed the latch from the donor machinists' chest (Update to come later today...). I did the first half of a repair on the Plomb box hinge (Update to come maybe tomorrow on Plomb thread...). I pasted a reproduction decal on my Spezial Werkzuegfabrik Feuerbach (SWF) All-Inches Wrench set box (Update already posted...). And I took some photos of items from last weekend and this week.

Here is that corny Craftsman 4-way screwdriver. I am so out of it I really have no idea if this is common or rare, 40 years old or 4 years old, etc. EDIT: I just noticed the "WF" (Western Forge) code. So I guess 1960's, maybe 1970's?

Sorry to hear that Tim!

LOVE the Death Raygun!

Wall earned suckage on the big torque wrench & Wilton!

I had a good day today! Lots of pics and a couple of stories!

First stop was an Estate sale and when they said "no early birds!" they meant it!

There were 5 guys waiting at the side walk when I got there, and a few more were added in the ten mint it took to get to 8:00. I'm thinking "Man It's going to be a free for all.."

I'm also expecting to have to fight for anything...

When the lady came out and thanked us for waiting, and said it was 8:00, everyone moved forward and I got the he tool tray while everyone else went inside the house and a couple into the garage. Looked things over and took the whole tray. I added a few things to it as I went through the garage, including a craftsman/Atlas table saw fence and sliding miter from the same Tsaw I'm working on. The miter is the original with the Long C. I was hoping the fence was for the 10" and be longer than mine but its the same 8" model. I'l go back later and may get the saw... I had hardly ANY competition and those that were in the garage were not getting stuff I wanted! :bounce:

So the tray and the Tsaw parts (they didn't realise the Tsaw even sued these as its was covered with a wood top... :dunno: )

And a light German Army jacket with hood. Lots of pockets and even has the underarm zippered vents to avoid overheating. I like it! It'a 80% BaumWolle, (cotten) and 20 poly.

$20 all!

attachment.php

second YS had these :

attachment.php

From the left: Indestro, Bonnt driver and wrench, General ruler, Craftsman DBE, Barcallo, Proto, Little Giant (hand ot have it I have a tiny BP hammer from them, nothing else) and a Williams, plus a mixed bag of punches. $9

Whiel getting ready to pat the older guy approaches me and asks if I like to buy tools. I say sure!

"Where are you going after this?"

"Another yard sale"

"Well I have a bunch of tools on my bench an garage that i want to get rid of. I live just down the street..."

The long and short of it was I followed him home and cherry picked his stuff a few weeks before his planned garage sale!

I set the price, he accepted, told me I had to, for that price, take a SS bottle opener, (he had a stack) and even told me to pick one more tool to boot!

Stanly#4 Baily, adn craftsman planes, a spole shave, Channel lock pliers (the "Extra" tool), 2 small pliers, two tiny C clamps, Heller Masterench 6" pipe wrench, 4" Merritool, adjustable, a couple of hand burrs, anf the SS bottle opener

attachment.php

The it was off to a neighborhood annual block sale, 10-15 streets, a couple of houses on each..) Where I got this Floor lamp for free!

attachment.php

The base is also lit, and the stone (agate?) glows, and light shows under it.

attachment.php

More to come later, but I got an errand to run!

Hey, usually I'm a lurker on this site. However, today's Garage sale finds were to good to not share.
I found an awesome vintage Mac top box, a Snap on 3/8 FL 720 ratchet that needs a rebuild, a couple of Snap on 3/8s bits, a cool Snap on Unit converter slide. a Blue point AT400A Sander and a Hot Rod Branded creeper for the wicked price of $50.

I don't have a picture of the creeper because its going to live in my car until I visit my Dad's, I live in an apartment and do my wrenching at my parents farm about 2 hours away.

Nothing for me this weekend, working as usual. However I traded my $300 Case trencher for this nice Miller Big 40 Gas welder/generator. Runs great, just need to clean the gas tank or find an easy replacement for cheap. This is one heavy welder at 1400 LBS compared to my Miller Trailblazer that only weighs 500 LBS.

I have two of that style Craftsman and both are marked WF (Western Forge) so I'd like to see the WF and Stanley side by side. I guess its possible WF subbed them out to Stanley

I could be wrong but here are closeups of the handles, compared to a few of my Stanleys.

Thanks Matt! I have replaced nearly all the "modern" lamps in the house with vintage/Antique lamps, and this one replaces one more newer floor-stander, after I adapt an LED main bulb and get three suitable satellite lamps.

OK Picking up where I left off before the errands:

Still at the Block sale: A Zero Halliburton Aluminum Suitcase. $5 - could not leave it!

I hit the Tahoe flea this morning and found a few tools but found a garage sale later on and picked up some other nice items including a barely used Mityvac vacuum pump set. They are great for bleeding brakes.

That could be Stuart. very close for sure.

I went back to a couple of places while on my errands:

The estate sale where I got the tray of tools, T-Saw fence and miter, and the German Army jacket still had the late 30's atlas built T saw and a 4" Home craft jointer both on one stand. I decided to get the T-saw as it had a complete motor mount, and mine is broken and partly missing. So for a 20 I got both plus these:

Step Drill bits, Hole punches, Upholstery puller, 10 inch Dividers, and 2 pair of bifocals.

I found one pair and was like "Wow! coke bottle lenses!" (real glass) So I tried them on to see how bad and actually, for REAL CLOSE work, these make great magnifiers! the "regular lens is about what my usual 3.25 "close work" readers are, so I took them, then found a second pair, so I'l put them in two places handy for that once in a while )I need a magnifier! (like last night digging out splinters...)

No Pics of the T-saw and Jointer, as it still on its side in the van. (heavy!)

Then I went back to the guy that had me follow him home and I had forgotten to also include the 4 bar clamps he'd had on a second bench, and got those for another $6! Two 24", and Two 18's

Then I alos stopped at a closing yardsale that I had not bought anything from, and picked up a project - A remodel sink. seems in perfect condition, and will replace our master bath sink.

These last are freebee books from two different sales on the neighborhood sale. The Cookbook is perfect for my oldest daughter who is heading of in about a month for two years to complete her bachelors. the art books she took most of and the gardening she and SWMBO both liked.

Not much for yard sales today but I did buy a small hand carry tool box just because it was a neat design. The box was full of mostly chi-**** tools and nuts nails and screws. As I was dumping the junk in the scrap this caught my eye, a small Snap on TMP82 1/4" drive #2 phillips socket.

All from a Goodwill run, probably $20 total. The sockets are snapon impact, the knives the wife claimed for pumpkin carving 😒. And who would have thought repair kits at a Goodwill

So, on my normal Sat. morning wander around, I started at a shop sale in a little farm town. Most of what was in the CL ad was Harbor Freight from the pics, but I spotted something I have been searching high and low for. Then, I hit a few sad estate sales (homeowner tools at best) and a town wide garage sale thing, which I found zip at. At the end I went back to the sale I hit yesterday for 1/2 off day. So, without further ado, The Finds!

The chisel handle is a long C Craftsman, misc. V sockets, Craftsman 6" centerfinder. That and the two books cost 2.75 at the half off sale and the two dial gauges (Starret and B&S[metric]) were $5 each at the shop sale. But the reason I went was this, the actual Long C Craftsman motor for my '37 six inch lathe. Works perfectly and I willingly forked over the $30.

Letgo was my tool of choice today. I was specifically looking for some shelves to put on top of my workbench (it’s a very deep bench) and I found these:

For $15 each I drove the 30 minutes to grab them.

While I was perusing letgo this also showed up:

I’d never seen a Starrett ratchet before let alone an entire set, in an original wooden box, and I figured for $20 I couldn’t go wrong. On close examination, it will be a cool display piece, not much of a user.

BMW, Great find on the motor!

Fowl: Wow, I've never seen Starrett sockets or ratchet either! I bet the people at Starrett don't even know they once made those!

I agree! display piece for sure? only very selective use! I'd display those in my house!

(Where is Lugs with his little book? )

Sort of the same, going through a bunch of no name rusty **** in a plastic akro mills tub at a gs, I find this 1939 Snap-on TW-220 socket, 1/2 dr 6 pt, 11/16" that looks like it has hardly ever been used, buried in the bottom, with nice chrome. I think I have spent $1 on worse things.

That Starret ratchet set is a real find! I'd love to see more pictures. I have never seen one.

And that long C motor is sweet.
