Here is the only sheet I have on file which includes both the B89 and B97.

The colours were usually red, but could be others if you asked.

Been a long while since I posted anything, but this morning garage sales find needed to be shared.

Found this with a Beach bottom cabinet, unfortunately I had to leave the Beach cabinet behind, had no room in my little Honda Accord. I'd have tried to arrange a pick-up with a truck later if I wasn't living in an apartment. As it was I got the hairy eyeball from my wife when I brought this in.

Paid $20 CDN for this bad boy.

How old do you Guys figure this is? I've done a quick search through GJ but haven't com up with anything yet.

NO BEACH LEFT BEHIND :) Let me guess it was a 12 drawer and $25 CDN and had the front cover. Sorry I don't have a guess on the MAC.

Actually it was $20.... and Yes it had the front cover.
I felt bad but there was no way in hell i was going to get it in my 2004 Honda Accord Coupe. :(

The top box had to ride shotgun as it was.

I believe your Mac is made by Waterloo and I would guess 70’s! They also made boxes for sk, proto and craftsman. They are well made boxes!

Question for the Craftsman aficionados - I have a top box that appears to be a Craftsman ( the badge has been removed from the lid) from the late '30's-early 40's, back when they were still squared off at the corners and the front stood proud of the chest body when closed. I actually have two of the same box, but one of them has had the lid torn off and serves me as a middle box. It looks like this,

Can anyone identify it? The drawer dividers don't seem to match any of the boxes I've seen. The chest had a Mac logo on it when I bought it, but there are two holes that match up with the spacing on the Craftsman badge of the '40's.

Thanks!

Its a really well built box, though somebody has been rough with it over the years.

It could be a Waterloo, but the more I look at it the more it looks like a Beach built box. It has a very similar drawer layout and friction slides to my other tool boxes, which are Beach brand and Craftsman Canada. Which were also built by Beach. The main difference between this box and those is how heavily built it is.

I have heard that Beach built boxes for a lot of tool manufacturers up here in Canada, similar to how Waterloo and others did in the States.

Does anyone recognize this side box? I doubt it's vintage but it is surprisingly well made.

I bought it today ($30) and immediately put it to use under my DP for bits, etc. Anyways, I'd love to find another drawer - even if it means ordering from the manufacturer.

That looks like a HF 7 drawer side cabinet to me.

I have the newest before they made series 2. It could be a early version of it.

Does the HF have the option to move drawer positions? if not, its different... (large drawer top & bottom on the HF)

Yes. The bigger drawers use 2 slides and single drawer use 1. The slides are evenly spaced.

I moved the big drawer from the bottom to the top so all the drawer handles lined up better. 31270d7083773f88b76ab4523929a15f.jpg

I'll take better photos later this afternoon to help with the identification. It has ball bearing drawer slides which are secured to the inside of the cabinet with a steel clip in back and a rivet in front. It was not well cared for but is still sound.

It appears to be an HF box. I've never owned one but see why people like them so much. I think I'll paint it Craftsman gray & red to match the decor :)

The drawer pull handles are commonly used on all Craftsman top and bottom boxes from the late 40s through early 60s. I have a really rough 3d top chest that I'm still trying to decide whether I part it out or keep it as-is (I gave $50 for it with some tools). If your 10d top chest were in my stable, I guarantee I would have already parted out the other box to restore that one. Very nice find!

Some may have seen my post in the garage sale forum from May with machinist chest I picked up.

I've been reading, posting, asking questions of late on The Gerstner Forum and I have discovered that my Kwality Kase was made by Wedell & Boers ,right here in Detroit,MI and sold by both the Detroit Leather Goods Co. and the Chicago Leather Goods Co. The box dates to 1916/1917 ,and is further proven with a newspaper that lines the top of the felt in one drawer dated Oct.10,1917.
The drawer fronts are mahogany and the hardware is nickel plated.

The folks on The Gerstner Forum were quite pleased at the condition of a 100+ year old chest. I have some new found tips on refreshing the leatherette to make it shine just a bit brighter hopefully.

if the leatherette is just aged and dusty(not worn & torn)
i would suggest you try to freshen it up with Meguiars ultimate black plastic restorer.
trust me:beer:

That is what is suggested now on TGF. Some clean with diluted Murphy's ,quick wipe with Kiwi Black leather dye,or Kiwi shoe polish and then Meguiar's. I've got to go to the parts store anyhow Meguiar's is on my list.
