Well Pump Wiring (w) 110 Outlet

If this has been addressed elsewhere, please point me in that direction and I will delete this thread.

I have a 220volt 2-Wire Well Pump and would like to install a 110 outlet at the pump head.

When the pump was installed I ran 4 10guage wires to the well head. I am currently using 3 of them for the 220 circuit, (2 110volt wires and a ground going down the well casing to pump).

I want to hook up the 4th wire to the neutral bus bar in the panel, and branch off of one of the 110volt wires, share a ground with the pump. Install an outlet for low voltage landscape lighting. Can this be done?

I keep hearing about appliances with 4 wire plugs that use both 110 and 220 circuits, so I figure the same logic would work here?

I'm sure NEC is not on my side.

U sure your pump is only 2-wire?

Is there a pump controller/starter?

What is the ratinf on the breaker feeding this?

Whats the HP rating on the pump?

Definitely a 2 wire
Pump is 3/4 HP
No Pump Controller / Starter
I will have to get back with you on breaker size. Of course its a double pole but I cant remember the rating right now.

I think I just realized why I cant do this......

The 2 "120 Volt Wires" will not be live until the pressure switch is activated in the building. So if I branched off of one of them for my outlet, it would only be live while the pump is running?

I guess that would lead to another question, could you use the pressure switch to only interrupt one of the 120 legs and pass the other 120 leg straight through the switch housing so that it is "Live" 24/7 at the pump?

In hindsight, I wold have installed the pressure tank at the well head. Too late now unless I want to cut out and replumb.

Can't know since the OP didn't share where he lives, but if it gets cold, it doesn't really make sense to have the tank outside. You'd have to build something to keep it warm and there is no way that's easier than running a new circuit for landscape lights

I don't think there is a problem if you wire up the switch to only break one of the legs on the 220 circuit. It basically just creates an open circuit for the pump.

I guess the big question is the effect on the pump itself if you have a small load on one of the legs feeding the pump.

I'm in North Georgia, we don't have to worry about frozen pipes long but it is a concern for a couple months out of the year

It looks like it will work in theory...... I guess I really just have two main questions.

1. Am I correct in assuming that I can only break one of the 120 legs for the well pump? I don't have to break both at the pressure switch?

2. Any effect on pump if one of the legs feeding the pump also has a load from an outlet?

Anyone done something like this?

I am trying to avoid having to tap into the breaker box, run a separate line out of the building, rent a trencher and dig a 300 foot ditch, buy direct burial cable, set a post in concrete to mount the outlet on etc etc etc.....

Especially if can just make a couple connections and pop an outlet in.

Can you just run dirrct burial low voltage wire?

I would personally be hesitant to mess around with my well pump considering how much they coat, how much of a pain they are to replace and that it means no water when one fails
