We visited a blacksmith shop run by a museum in Galena, IL. They were making a number of bottle openers for groomsman gifts. I liked the design and mentioned I'd like to buy one. "Sure, come back in a couple of hours!" Tried it out and love it so far. Simple enough for anyone to make one at home with basic tools.

Sigh....I miss beer.

Can't enjoy it anymore. After one, I start getting all stuffed up in my sinuses. And they are like Lay's chips. Can't just have one.

Years ago it was just my cheeks and sides of my neck that turned red and flush. Now it takes away my ability to breathe through my nose. No thanks. I'll stick to good Scotch.

Try one of the good German beers that follow the Reinheitsgebot (German Purity Law). Only ingredients used are water, hops, barley, yeast. If you still have symptoms, then you might have a reaction to hops, and you'll be forced to drink scotch.
Many American beers are brewed with corn, wheat, rice and they also add chemicals such as MSG, food coloring, foaming agents, etc. Wheat is a common culpirt in allergic reactions.

Not in any particular order: Warsteiner, HB, Bitburger, Veltins, Spaten, Radeberger, Weihenstephan. A lot depends on what is available in Columbia SC, and what you like. I think all of these follow the German Purity Law and all are lagers that are pretty light in flavor. I like them all equally, but Spaten tends to be more expensive and is a bit higher in alcohol (5.2).

LOL! The one German beer I really loved was a Kristall. Or Wheat....
Got any recommendations?

If you like a light american style lager but better Warsteiner. If you like a light beer but with a little more depth Weihenstephaner Vitus. If you like a wheat/Hefe style Franziskaner. If you want full body but not hoppy or bitter Paulaner Salvator doppel bock. Those are a few I prefer, but there aren't too many bad ones in my opinion.

I have ran across a few of the older style Kobalt wrench style openers that are similar to the Craftsman style opener. I'd be willing to part with 2 of them if I could find someone willing to trade me with something that is also fairly tough to find and I do not have yet. Check out my current collection (minus the older Kobalt style as I have not received them quite yet, should have in a week or so). Feel free to shoot any offers you may have. If nobody is willing to part with something from their collection (which would be understandable), I'd be up for taking offers on the Kobalt openers. I'll post a pic of them once I have them in hand. Thank you all.

That collection is awesome - takes things to a whole new level. I've got the Klein in my track box and several Weras throughout the shop and house.

I would need to buy a new tool chest as all my drawers are filled - you win.

I love the Wera openers. There are a few out there that I don't have an am not really sure how to obtain. Red/white, blue/yellow, black/yellow. If anyone knows how to get a hold of those, please fill me in.

looks like that site is all in German. Not sure how comfortable I feel trying to buy something from a site I don't understand. Also, I'm sure the shipping would be pretty pricey just for a bottle opener. But thank you for sharing. I'd be interested to see the pic of that Wera opener collection you mentioned.

I like a branded, plain-ole churchkey. The one that has some brand stamped-into it. My son gave me the Craftsman forged one for Christmas, and I like the ease with-which it works. A birthday past he got me a great growler, which works very well, and is almost indestructible.

I recall being young, and using the car door latch, in most cases, requiring an immobile vehicle. You know there's always someone to prove that's not necessary. Foolish youth.

Don't forget the Park Tool pizza cutter, what goes better with a cold beer than a good pizza?

I have ordered things from Germany before (not that site / business). Sometimes the shipping is surprisingly low. Try google translate on the site page (s). But I understand your hesitance.

I can't get a link to work that shows the picture. But if you do a google image search for Wera Bottle Opener it should show up. On my search it was in the bottom quarter of the results. Shows about 40 Wera openers lined up hanging on a row of pegs / hooks. I'd say there are at least 20 that are truly different and the rest are probably minor variations.

Good luck.

Milwaukee has made another version of its bottle opener. Just picked mine up from my local Home Cheepo

Old on the left. New on the right

Here's a link to the image of the Wera openers that SRSemenza mentioned:
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Dh0O2cSWkAAyKbF.jpg

and if that doesn't work, here's the Twitter post that included the photo:
https://twitter.com/SamArmstead/status/1016985423975985152

However, as the author says, many of these openers are homemade, not factory made. This is cheating. :) Based on what I know, it looks like about two-thirds are legitimate.

Wera has made a number of openers for third parties that are branded with a logo of a different company or soccer club, so that's where many of the unusual color combinations come from. The Red Bull special edition is homemade, I think -- I only know of Wera producing a screwdriver set in those colors, not a bottle opener.

Witt, can you get me a Mac? I've been looking for one. I can trade you an old husky one that is styled similar to the beefy Craftsman wrench style ones. Let me know. Thanks.

I just got the latest Harbor Freight flyer and they have Quinn bottle opener for $1.99. In there usual advertising style, it says " Compare to Milwaukee for $8". I think they torally miss the point. Unless you collect everything, it is about being a fan of that brand. You can get a functional bottle opener in the dollar store. How many take pride in owning a pair of Quinn pliers. It may be a step up for them but a line that just a few pairs of pliers? Even Hercules or Eartquake would make more sense and that's a stretch.
