Bend back a roll bar?

Just recently bought a 10 point roll bar kit for my car, EWS .134 wall, and it looks as though they over bent my A pillar bars. I don't have a bender, but can get access to one. Would I be able to bend it back a few degrees to get the angle correct?

What angle is the bend? I think you could use a jig to pull the bend out a couple degrees. I would make something to secure the tubing and put a cheater bar length pipe inside the tube as far towards the bend as possible and pull.

Might be a better question for pirate4x4.com or desert rangers.

Contact the company first and see if they would replace that bar.

There are other ways to bend the bar back, need more details to help determine the best way

Ratchet strap might pull it back a few degrees and get it to the exact spot you want.

i don't see that as being very feasible with .134 wall EWS mild steel.

i'm going to try to find my angle finder when i get home (couldn't find it for the life of me last night) and get the angle of the bar and the angle of the car so i can call the shop tomorrow to see if they either incorrectly bent my bars or if the bending program they have is incorrect.

worst case scenario, they sent me a few extra bars and can have a friend bend them to the correct angle

Sorry you do not appreciate the feedback. I thought of it because it is what the shop did that installed my cage (2” 120 wall). It didn’t need to be bent so much as just flexed a bit to get it to the exact spot before welding.

so i finally found my angle finder hiding where it def. didn't belong, and found that the bar is bent exactly 10* too far. should be 150*, bar is 140*. time to make a call and see what if anything they can do

I am not saying it isn’t possible that they screwed up, but if it is a kit, they probably have all of this worked out already. Fitting a cage nice and tight is a tricky thing. The angle of bends, the location of bends, etc all play into getting the cage to fit around things like door handles, window cranks, armrests, etc. one previous post suggested the bars may be a little long on one leg or the other. This is where I would start. You can’t just look at the angle of the A-pillar in a vacuum. It has to be considered relative to the horizontal and vertical legs of the bar as well. For example, if you put an angle finder on the A-pillar while the car is at rest and it says 150* and you measure the bar at 140*, you might surmise that there is a 10* discrepancy. If you measure the bar as it sits perfectly level, you might be creating the inaccuracy yourself. Many roof bars don’t sit level, but rather follow the line of the roof. Many cars are designed with a rake to the roofline, meaning that when the roof bar follows the roofline, your A-pillar suddenly is exactly where it needs to be.

I’m not saying that this is your problem or that you haven’t already checked all this, I am just throwing it out there as another variable that might be affecting the way things are fitting for you. Good luck sorting it out... 10 point cages generally equal speed and speed generally equals fun. Have a good time and be safe!
