Dang, everybody is killin' it! Your host, who did okay hisself, is taking Little Lugnutz #4 back to college later today, so I gotta be rude and post my own some stuff and catch up on everybody else's hauls later.

NOTICE: There's going to be another of my little GUESSING GAMES in this one!!

View media item 85389
I'll have A LOT more to say about the blue case and its contents.

The roached tappet wrench is a 1945 BONNEY 424.

The adjustable crescent-type wrench is a 6" wartime Diamond with a 1/2" 12-point box end broached into the hanging hole.

///// AND NOW FOR THE GUESSING GAME… /////

Who will be the first to guess what the rustic hand-carved goose hunter sculpture is, functionally, other than it being a sculpture!

LUGZ, it looks like a pencil sharpener to me as well.

Here's my haul for the weekend. A bunch of SK stuff for my SK tool board, Wartime Danielson 12" adjustable, PWA marked Bonney ratchet, Vintage pint of Neatsfoot oil, bluegrass pliers, empty walden box, Larger unmarked socket box, small handful of sockets.

Does that mean I get the contents? [emoji1]

Looks like Juniper Schnapps. Some of the rakia are delicious, other can be used to start engines. Every family has their own secret (occasionally involving bathtubs) recipe.

My wife and I spent a year in Croatia, and brought back some Medica (pronounced medEssa). Honey liquor, smooth as can be.

It is juniper brandy, and no, not a chance! :) The Borovicka (BOAR-o-veetchka) did not come with the secret bottle holder huntsman sculpture! That was the handiest bottle I could find (um, er, just happened to be in my shop for some reason...) without disturbing the house. Figure the odds that a connoisseur of Slavic liquor would guess right first! Haha. All my grandparents were born in Slovakia (part of Austro-Hungarian Empire at that time), emigrated between 1900 and 1916. I grew up around Borovicka, Slivovicka (SHLEEV-o-veetchka)(made with plums), Ceresnovicka (Chair-ESH-no-oveechka)(made with cherries), and other brandies. Also sweet wines made from beets and carrots and anything else that would ferment! If you spent time in Croatia, you know it's not at all uncommon for people in Eastern Europe and the Balkans to serve liquor at breakfast as a little d̶i̶g̶e̶s̶t̶i̶f̶ kickstarter.

You didn't mention how often we had to stop! I must have sweat off 5lbs today.

I didn't see that Proto LA metric wrench. I own, but do not have in my possession, a Proto LA metric/Whitworth tool board. If you don't intend to keep the wrench ...

As for my haul, it included vises, tool boxes, and big wrenches. The pictures I have at the moment are of the Plomb 1164, 1 5/8" x 1 11/16" DBE I bought for $20, a Rock Island 571 (3") swivel vise for $20, a Stanley USA 4" drill press vise for $20, and a Boston #4 pencil sharpener for $5. I have much more but there are no photos at the moment.

Smokeshow was a real champ bringing his 5yo son to one of the best swap meets a tool junkie waits for every year. His son proudly proclaimed "I got as much stuff as you dad!"

I enjoyed hanging out with my GJ friends at yet another great event! BMWRD0, Smokeshow69, OregonRockCrusher. Sadly, Provincial couldn't make it!

Brian

Yesterday was a pretty good day for picking at the Great Oregon Steam Up! Great seeing so many GJ buds and seeing what all they found. I was too wiped out last night to do any sorting but got around to it this morning. It was hot out but Steam up is as much about the show as the swap meet so it's easy to overdo it a bit. Here are a few pics of my haul. The Plomb box was my find of the day but I really like the wooden machinist box too. I think it's a late 30's or early 40's National. I found a four more Hargrave bar clamps to add to the nine I already had. Quite a few hand tools too and a full set of Chromium Vanadium sockets and drive tools were included in the Plomb box. A lot of neat stuff to see and do as well as buy is what Steam up is all about. Ed.

Nice haul. Your box could be a National/Star hard to tell exactly.A pic of the drawer slides would help. National/Star used steel runners on the case against the wooden drawers. This forum has been very helpful of late (as well as GJ) http://www.gerstnerforum.com/forum.php There are sections on many of the old makers and wise people willing to help.

Alinc, would those "steel runners" be in the form of pins form the sides? If so that's a clue on the box that is on my inside workbench.

I'm not sure on the maker Alinc but did spend a little time looking online last night. The Gerstner 41 is close but the hardware didn't seem to match. 5 small drawers and two full width about 20" wide overall. National seemed to have that pattern and the hardware looked pretty close. I wouldn't have guessed the age where I did but for these two shipping tags, one on either side. The one seems the have a Railroad shipping tag from 42' and the other shows a Washington state address. Pretty plain construction and drawer slides but no steel. Knob handles are peened over inside, no nuts. A couple more pics. Ed.

Found some worthwhile items on a Sunday visit to the Tahoe flea. Went with my neighbor and his son in law so the finds were a little diluted. The first picture is everything, the second S-K and Lectrolite. The third is the obligatory Barcalo, the next Blackhawk. The last three are Craftsman dykes, a PowrKraft extension and the markings from the mystery ratchet.

OK thanks, mine are completely different. Each drawer has it own pocket, and the bottoms also slide a bit besides these grooves and pins:

There is a groove on the drawer sides, and each has a last minute up turn at the back edge. So this keeps the drawers from being pulled out and dropped and requires the drawer to be lifted in front to get the drawer out... Steel pins pressed into the wood provide the "guide"

Sold some things at a local auction, something caught my eye. I waited too long and the electrical stuff got thrown in as a package.

Had to pay three bucks for the whole lot.

The little 3/8 sidewinder by Davenport tool company cleaned up nice.

So a guy has had a bunch of old tools on Craigslist for over a week. I was going to go look at them but didn't look like much and I didn't want to spend $10 on gas to go look at junk. So he says he is goin to get more tools from his dad and text me pictures. So over a week later on Thursday morning he finally texts me pictures. HOLY COW! I was doing stuff at my house and a friend was helping me but I made arrangements for going in the afternoon at 2 PM. Walk in and stuff is laid out neatly. I see a nice Wilton Bullet on a workbench and a rusty Wilton bullet sitting on the ground. What's that grinder under the workbench with 1 HP on the shield? A CRAFTSMAN 1 HP Block Grinder in good shape!. I'm the only customer there and I think the first person to show up period. So I spent over 2 hours digging and talking to him.

So I'll start with the Craftsman I picked up.

Pic 1: This Craftsman Competition Chest is around 1974, it's not in great shape but they are hard to find in nice shape.

Pic 2: The socket rack is all =V=, it's missing the 19/32 which I should have. The drill gauges are both Crown logo. The flex sockets are 6 point -V-, the RHFT ratchet is an early Patent Pending =V= with no part number 1/2" drive and is in nice shape.

Pic 3: The wrenches are all =V= without a part number, they do have owner's initials stamped in them but I never find these large ones.

Pic 4: The flare nut wrench set is V/\ and the flex handle is =V=.

Pic 5: My FAVORITE Craftsman find of the day, the Crown logo Vernier caliper in mint condition. The Crown logo punch set is one I didn't have so it was a nice find too. The little box is a 1/4" drive set.

Pic 6: The 1/4 drive set is around 1967-1968 going by the ratchet. Notice it has the cross bar for the flex handle although it's a bit rusty.

Pic 7: A close up of the Crown logo caliper.

I saw one of those woodgrain craftsman boxes just like that in brand new condition at a estate sale a block away a month ago. $10. didnt get it because I didnt know anything about it. and unusually only get older stuff.
