It was a kit, I blended the blue and black to get it dark, it is a one off as I didn't measure anything out. As far as the clear, I am excited too, although I have never done the topcoat that I am planning on using, it was recommended by another member. The mix is equal parts spar varnish, turpentine, and tung oil. I will be trying it on the bottom first, I am not a huge fan of normal clear coats, or should I say, I have not had really good luck with clear coats.

Cool, thanks for the link.

That 3 part mix is a pretty common one for an oil finish that isn't too dark when it's dry.

I was a little disappointed in how much darker my mom's maple top ended up after the natural Danish oil finish was built up after a few coats to get the glassy smooth finish. Fortunately my mom loved it, but I wished it was lighter. I hate poly...

Hey Strouty, haven't been here in a while. Hope you've been well!
You caught my interest twice in recent pages... once with the pics of the axles, and then with this...

I have the juggernaut 2 box with some of the inserts, looks like it might fetch a few hundred bucks on eBay. I need to sell some decal sheets, also decide on selling the TXT or keeping it. I am torn, especially now that I am setting up a more dedicated space to use, in all honesty, I don’t want to sell any of it, but I know what need to.

Last couple days have been way too humid, they say that this July was the hottest on record for Maine and I will agree. Now we are into August when it is usually hotter, I don’t like it one bit.

This morning I bought a four wheel steer industrial wagon thingy. It is in decent shape, but I need to modify it so there is a handle rather than the current stubby trailer hitch. Rated for 2000 pounds, it should do what I need fairly easy.

Thanks 1/2 Cup, the guy was asking $75 but I couldn’t get to him until today so I told him I would pay $100 if he held it for me. I would have paid much more for it, so I am happy with it. It needs a bit of cleaning up as I think he stored it outside, there was water in the side rail tube and I can see where it froze and expanded. Other that that, it is in decent shape. The four wheel steer is cool, it really follows you!

Never saw a 4 wheel steer wagon before but that is very cool. Should be a handy item for moving heavy objects without taking up a lot of space. A good buy at $100.

Strouty, you’re going to love that wagon. I had one about fifteen years ago that was very similar to yours, but the bed looked to be a little larger maybe, and minus the side-rails. It was made by Cushman, and was bought at a liquidation sale, originally used at an airport, by one of the airlines. Very well made and easily handles a lot of weight and heavy use. I hate to think what they cost to buy when they were new, everything on them is heavy-duty and ready to provide decades of use. That is, as long as they're not left to be stored outside all year.

This wagon will reside inside, I had another one that was stored outside, but it had a ridiculous handle setup, so it took up too much room. This one is great and I can make space for it for sure.

I am off buying a few more things today, bought some stuff that I have to pick up tomorrow, but it should help out with the storage aspects. I got some stack rack and I am going to look at some pallet racking next. I think this will mostly be outside storage, but it may work out for inside too.

I picked up the scientific thingy that I bought a while back, looks like it has all the makings of a 3D printer or maybe even a 3 axis router. Technically it has a fourth axis as the bottom plate moves too. I don’t know a lot about it, but it looks like it was an expensive piece when new. I only paid $100 for it and after loading it up, there is more than that value in scrap aluminum. It also came with the base table, looks like 80/20, but has Bosch branding on it. The bottom shelf is that composite plastic that costs an arm and a leg too. So far I think it was worth the price and effort.

It is ridiculously humid here right now, I am one big puddle of sweat. No way could I live down south in the summer.

Loading up the trailer so I can get the pallet racking and stack racks tomorrow, on Monday I am looking at a rolling shelving storage thing, it is on tracks and you can push all the shelves together so it takes up less room, the spread them apart when you need to get to them. Not sure if it is worth getting or not, but I want to at least look at it.

A records rack.

:headscrat

So, I have been looking for a bandsaw. I have been looking for a specific bandsaw. I found one years ago, but passed it up, then changed my mind and it was gone when I came back. Tonight, I am pretty sure I found the same bandsaw, I mean the exact one I passed up. I am going to buy it this time, assuming I didn't miss it already.

So don’t leave us hanging.... did you get it and what is it? [emoji51]

I don't know if I got it yet. My fingers are crossed though. I am figuring even if I do get it, I won't be able to pick it up today as the bank is not open, so I will need to leave a deposit and pick it up next week. Will post pictures if I get it, don't want to go over the top and jinx myself. :(

I talked with the band saw guy, it is not the one that I thought it was, but it will do. Hopefully he can dig it out today, but if I had to guess, I would say it will be a few days before I get to check it out. I told him I would leave a deposit, but he wanted to wait. I just hope he doesn’t flake on me.

Bandsaw is an Ellis miter saw, it has a roller table included and one spare blade. I have wanted one of these for a long time. They are about $3800 new and that is without the roller table.

Very Nice! I would love to find one of those around here. When you do find one they have been beat up so badly you have to rebuild the whole thing.

I just picked up another Wellsaw and will be adding a roller so that I can turn my other one into a dedicated miter.

I hope it works out for you!

If it is all beat up, I probably won’t buy it, but from what I understand it is in good condition.

On my way back to the shop with both the pallet rack and the stack racks. I have a bunch of rattling steel in the back of the burb and it is driving my ears crazy.

Yep, down here we get free sauna and mineral treatment (sand stuck to my drenched skin and clothing). Drink plenty of water, the heat exhaustion will sneak up on ya. It's come close to me a couple times.

Sun burn here in ten minutes today... It's bad at the shore... saw a few permanently tattooed tan lines at the local convenience store...

Looked back at the picture of the four axis in the back of the burb. Got to ask... did you measure first or just try?

I didn’t have a tape, but I knew it would fit. Actually, when we started putting the smaller part in, it looked like it wasn’t going to fit, but in the end, I had about a foot of space.

If I get dehydrated, I know it, so plenty of water for sure. Today is not too bad, but Monday is supposed to be 95 with oppressive humidity and Tuesday is going to be close to that. My shop tends to run hotter as there is no sea breeze over here. At my house we are a couple miles from the water and you usually get some relief. I may head to my Dad’s camp on Monday, but I really would rather go to the white mountains in New Hampshire, the rivers there are usually cooler.

Just got back to the shop, had some lunch, now I am taking a few minutes to get ready to go back outside and unload all the racking. I may end up going to get a brush mower today, my neighbor mows once a month or so, but weed whacking takes too much out of my back. Of course the mower will probably end up being worse, but I can buy/build other attachments for it. I would like to use it as a pusher for vehicles and a trailer mover too.

The Ellis bandsaw is a great saw. I inherited my dads saw a while back. It’s prob a smaller saw than what you’re getting but I’ve cut 2x6” tubing on it, mitered cut 4” pipe and pretty much what ever I can drag up on the bed.
It’s one of the things that I say I’d run into the shop to get if there’s a fire.
It’s needs some bushing work.

I bought this saw for my dads business in the late 70s on a local TV auction for some fundraiser. Yep I said TV, no online back then.

Pic cutting 2x4 1/4” wall tubing.

You’ll love this saw. I hope it’s in great shape.

My fingers are crossed, it is a bigger one, it will miter a 45 on 11” pipe IIRC. It is probably a bit too big, but I really think it is one of those things that you won’t regret having the extra capacity on.

Brush mower is a probably a bust, I looked at so many, I thought this one had the attachment for regular mowing as well as the brush mower, but it only has the finish mower attachment and no brush mower, kind of defeats the purpose of what I want it for. Before I give up completely I will call DR and see if they sell just the brush mower portion. It could still be worth it if they offer it for a reasonable enough price.

Racking is all unloaded, per usual I missed the fact that a few braces had been cut out and there are three odd shelf braces with 15 being the same. I planned on getting more parts anyway, these are a great start and should get me up and running.

I figured out what I need for racking, will check availability tomorrow, might be able to pick up everything this week and get it all leveled and assembled. Worst case, I work with what I have for the time being and add on later. I would prefer to do it once, but then again doing something is better than dreaming of have the perfect setup.

I have been tripping over perfectionism for a long time, until this year I didn’t quite understand it, but now I do. I have gone through a lot of books and a lot over research to figure out what I have been doing to myself, looking back, I don’t know how I missed it as it is really obvious now. Perfectionism is not really about being perfect, it is more about protecting yourself from pain, embarrassment, and failure. I have been letting my brain beat me for far too long, now that I know the game, the battle is on. I will admit with this heat and humidity we have had, the war is no going well for me, but I am still fighting.

I figure when I am in the conex or the poop sauna it probably feels about like that. Yesterday I dragged the portable fan out there, it made a big difference.

Not that I don't want to visit, but..........

I think I will wait until it snows here, then visiting would be better.

I priced out what I need and with everything that I bought yesterday, plus the stuff that I need, I will still be under $2000. I have to hold off for this minute as the bandsaw deal went through, will be picking that up either Wednesday or Thursday. I forgot to snap a picture of it, but it is in good shape, except the guy removed the factory wheels and replaced them with some half assed caster setup, should be an easy enough fix, but he would not budge on the price.

Right now I am fighting with a fuel filter in the burb. The maroon one had something happen the other day, I still can’t explain it, but I decided better change the fuel filter as an extra precaution. Did that yesterday, drive around for a bit, no issues noticed. This morning, I smelled diesel fuel when I got inside, it wasn’t a strong odor, but a hint. I popped the hood and saw fuel leaking from the filter. These filters have a bleeder on top and that is where it was leaking. NAPA changed over to this one piece design a while back, up until now I have never had any issues, I tried tightening the bleeder and it made it worse, I loosened it a bit and it was better. Drove to NAPA and got a replacement filter. A few hours later and the new one is leaking, it is barely leaking, like need to wipe a paper towel around it to tell for sure, but I guess I am done with the NAPA filters. Luckily I found an old AC Delco one and I will be ordering more of them as I never had any issues like this with the old style.

NAPA gave me a full refund for all the filters I had and said they were going to look into the issue. I am going to buy the OEM ones from now on, they can be found cheaper too.

It was 91 in the shade, so I am done for the day, going to do some paperwork in the air conditioning.
