Anyone put a loft in a 12' wall garage?

I'm planning ahead and was thinking about adding a loft to my future garage. it will have 12' walls, so the loft will be pretty low, but I can't decide how low. The front will have a lift inside one of the overhead doors (10' door), so I'd probably have to put the loft in the back. I will besetting up a wood shop in one corner, and I think I can live with an 8' ceiling there.

Thought? Or pictures of your setup?

I have a 12’6” shop ceiling with a room and a bathroom that have a loft above. The rooms are 8’ ceilings but you also loose approx a foot of additional space with the floor joists, Sheetrock and subfloor.
It is handy storage but heavy items can be very difficult to maneuver around or too carry boxes since you will have to walk while bending over and as we age it ***** that much more.

I don't have plans for a lift on the floor. I did put a loft in the back-half of a 2-car garage. It's built for heavy loads if I want to put something up there like an engine block, but realistically, the heaviest things I have up there are leftover tile, and a motorcycle engine.

To get stuff safely up/down I added a 120 V Harbor Freight (HFT) winch to a jib hoist. It works very well, both are rated at 2,000 lbs, but I've only found myself lifting < 1/6 of that (under 300 lbs).

The loft was designed by a P.E. and the garage by an architect.

I use HFT dollies for placement of heavy objects on them, makes it very easy to move things around.

This is what I'm thinking. Although I wouldn't be using it for anything as heavy as you.
