If you're in the market for a Bendpak lift now is the time! We have helped out the GarageJournal members for a few years now and wanted to let everyone know that the pricing will jump significantly September 1. PM us for individual pricing quotes. Any order placed before September 1 will beat the price increase.

I'm assuming this is due to steel prices rising? I've seen the price of stainless go up by about 15% in the past 6-8 months.

I'd say it's because of the Chinese steel tariffs. Maybe BendPak will source US only steel after the changes?

No offense, and I am not in the market for a lift but this kind of advertising -> 'Beat the Price Increase' (ala Festool and their annual price increases), just turns me off of a brand....

What is the reason for this SIGNIFICANT price increase? Corporate Greed, Steel Tariffs, what?

Keep hearing that "prices are going up because of Trump's tarriffs" no matter what I'm looking at for the last several months - welding gas tanks, steel building, tractor, pickup truck, shelving units, and now lifts. I guess everyone's using cheap Chinese steel? I keep asking these people if they've been trying to sell me cheap Chinese steel. If tarriffs are equalizing steel prices, that's great, I'll pay more but guarantee me I'm getting quality American steel.

Or it could turn you more towards that brand for being up front, and trying to help their customers out. Totally different product, but an spice company alerted me to the price increase of Vanilla was shooting up.

I am totally with you with bogus advertising. Biggest sale of the year, up to 75% off, employee cost sale... all garbage that gets repeated all year long. I don't categorize this as an advertisement, but more information to help the customer make a decision. It doesn't help the company to unnecessarily raise the price and potentially lose customers. It is only in their interest to alert you.

If it was corporate greed, I don't think they would tell you.

Let's hope so. The point of these tariffs is to take away the unfair pricing advantage of cheap imported steel. My brother just bought a new BendPak lift. Nice lift, label shows company is in California, but states elsewhere "Made in China"

The problem is that US steel suppliers raised their prices by 19% when the 20% tariff took effect. I've watched stainless prices go up by 25% in the past couple of months.

If your specific supplier raised prices then that's on them, but 19%+ is not market justified. Overall steel prices averaged up 2% over the summer, but ultimately lower vs the 52 week high in April. This is a commodity game right now, just like crude, gold etc.

US stock (inventory) might see an increase in local purchases causing a manufactured shortage that could demand a price increase; supply vs demand. But it's a fine-lined game they are playing if they truly want to keep the business local. If US steel raises the cost equal of the tariff, then ultimately we're in the same boat. Companies will still gravitate to the lower cost regardless of the supply origin. In the end, the consumer will makeup the difference in cost.

Has more to do with the fact that most of their lifts are made in China. China has banned scrap and raw steel imports in retaliation so unless Bendpak comes back to the US in a big way (wont happen) customers get to shoulder the tariffs.

Think of it as short term pain for long term gain. China can not afford to lose our business. Tired of see on label "Made in China to our specifications"
