Is this whats replacing the C3 line..? Anybody know if the batteries will interchange..or is the C3 line gonna be left for dead..? I really dont care..just have a couple old beat up drills in the service trucks that need to be replaced anyways.. The V20 line looks like Porter Cable..just a different color..So maybe those batts will interchange..?

They look pretty nice, but I'm really not sure how good they'll actually be. SB&D now has 6 brands with power tools: Black & Decker, Porter Cable, Bostitch, Craftsman, DeWalt and MAC. They already have so much overlap, that I don't really see where the Craftsman brand fits in.

I doubt they'd want to cannibalize sales from their flagship DeWalt brand, so I suspect these tools will be more low-end. Looking at pictures online shows that the Craftsman batteries have 4 contacts - like the Porter Cable, B&D, and Bostitch tools. The DeWalt based tools (including MAC) use 5 contacts on the batteries. This leads me to believe that the Craftsman tools are based on SB&D's low-end tool platform.

Lowes has some of the Porter Cable tools on clearance, including some of the drills. My guess is that we will see Craftsman replacing PC, at least in some of those areas, and at least at Lowes.

Someone in another thread was speculating that maybe PC would be refocused on their woodworking tools, and that might not be a bad idea. It would keep the two brands from crowding each other for limited shelf space, yet keep both brands active.

C3 is more or less a Sears Craftsman product, not a SBD Craftsman product. As long as Sears sources their Craftsman tools from companies other than SBD, the C3 platform could stick around

Sears doesn't own Craftsman any longer. Its SBD now and Sears now has a contract to continue to sell Craftsman in their stores. I may be wrong but from all that has been posted in the past year, this looks to be the scenario.

Was it not also said that the agreement between Sears and SBD allowed Sears to continue to use their own current sources for a period of time? Something like 10 years or whatever?

Sears sold the Craftsman name to Stanley, but it allows Sears to continue to sell their line of Craftsman tools at their stores. The new V20 line from Stanley has nothing to do with Sears' C3 line of tools. How long will Sears continue selling the C3 line? Who knows? I don't even think Eddie Lampert does.

Stanley, Sears to have competing Craftsman tool brands

Plenty of consumers know Sears’ iconic Craftsman tool brand. Now they’ll have to get to know its doppelgänger.

That means a Craftsman cordless power drill or red metal toolbox could have come from either Sears or Stanley, depending on where it's purchased. Consumers will continue to see Sears' version of Craftsman in the Hoffman Estates, Ill.-based retailer's Sears and Kmart stores, as well as Sears Hometown and Outlet. Elsewhere, they will begin to see New Britain, Conn.-based Stanley's take on the brand. [...]

I cant see Craftsman C3 line up lasting much longer. Once the new SBD red tools are in the stores the old C3 will look like a dinosaur. On top of that, there have not been any new C3 tools in quite awhile compared to Ryobi rolling out something new nearly every month.

Isn't Sears going to just sell the SBD versions of the CM power tools? Sears is just a retailer who sources their tools from other co's.

Looking at the Lowe's site, the Craftsman 20V V20 combo looks like a great deal for $199. You get a 1/4 impact driver, regular drill, reciprocating saw, flashlight, 2 batteries, charger, and a bag.

AFAIK Sears is not selling Stanley's Craftsman tools. I haven't seen any of that. Per the sale Sears gets to continue to source and sell their own lines of Craftsman tools. Not sure if there's a time limit on that or not. Read quite a few articles about it and don't recall seeing that.

Stanley is selling some of Sears Craftsman tools though. Not sure if that's just to help fill in the gaps while they get their own line off the ground or to better allow them to have stock of Sears' versions that they have said they will also honor the warranty on, both, or some other reason(s).
