You give me half your cold weather and I will give you half my warm weather, that should even us out pretty nicely.

I need to go to the office this morning, after that I will be headed to the shop, need to get something done over there, probably work on cleaning up inside.

I thought I was going to the shop, still have a couple errands to do, then I should be there. Yesterday I didn’t get there until well after 5, at least today should be before 5.

I am trying to figure out what I am getting rid of, part of me says almost everything, the other part of me is crying in the corner.

Not bragging but it's 60 degrees today. High of 65, low of 56, and I'm seven minutes from being knee deep in the pacific ocean (or at least having a line in the water).

I am jelly as Nines would say.

I did make it to the shop, need to gather my tools for tomorrow, after that I need to clean up the mess in the middle bay so I can actually use it.

I have been listening to an audiobook called “How to be an imperfectionist” it is pretty interesting and really rings true. I am really starting to understand why I do certain things, I am also figuring out workarounds for these issues. The author talks about his other book called “Mini habits” and essentially that is about setting micro goals instead of setting big or long term goals. An example would be doing one push-up a day, you mind says, I can do that, then when you start and finish that one simple goal, you may do a few more, or many more. It is just a way to trick your mind into starting. I know there are lots of people that would say this is a dumb idea, but when your brain is wired weird, something like this can be the difference between doing something and doing absolutely nothing.

As a perfectionist, I have set my floor as what others would think is the ceiling, so my mind will just say, why bother? This comes out in procrastination, excuses, self sabotage, and analysis paralysis. All of these are super easy to see, if you are not the one doing them, I knew that I did them, but I never had a clue how bad these things were. I am starting to see them and it is scary, working on it is tough due to the underlying reasons this happens.

Anyways, I guess opening up and saying I am insecure about myself may be the best way to rip off the band aid. Insecurity is probably one of the biggest factors, next is fear of failure, that one is more visible as I can hide the insecurities easier. It is even more obvious when reading my own posts from the past. I guess this is a good thing that I am figuring it out now, I just hope I can get and keep a handle on it moving forward.

Thanks Craptain, I will take some time for sure, sounds like he was a teacher for the subject.

This afternoon, I got the storage bus unloaded, the dumpster is full and I still have stuff that I need to get rid of, almost everything from the bus was related to the suburban project, so I am not excited about just tossing things before I get the project done.

Then on the Homefront, a few years back, the neighbor's plow guy took out a section of our 6' tall cedar fence. I bought the parts to fix it, but then found out that at least one post was broken, so I put it on hold (like I normally do). Fast forward to earlier this week, neighbor approaches my GF (her house) and tells her he is sorry that he hadn't had it fixed and was going to have people fix it. She explained that there were new cross braces and showed him where they were (laying on top of the broken panel section), then told him about the post being broken. He said they would take care of it. I found all of this out when I got home the other night Tonight I come home and my GF says they "fixed" it. It is so bad, no post replacement, used 1" by 1" untreated pine to connect the broken parts instead of replacing the cross braces, then the awesome part is that they reinforced the post by screwing a brace at a 45 degree angle. I will admit it probably looks great from the neighbor's yard, but now I have to tell him that it is not right and it needs to be fixed again. I just wish he had made the plow guy put it on his insurance or pay for it, now I get to look like an AHOLE. It is a real fence with the posts morticed out, so it is not just an easy repair for one person, that is essentially why I haven't done anything about it. I figure I will go over to the neighbor and he will be thinking that I am coming over to thank him, but I plan on asking him to look at my side and see if he thinks the repair is acceptable, I will be very curious to see what he says.

The temps here have not been too hot, it is the humidity that has been killing us. This year has been a very humid summer and it started early too. They are saying it is going to be a nasty winter, so I will be prepping in the next two months, getting the yard cleaned up is top priority, this way I will have somewhere to put the snow. In some ways I am looking forward to winter, this year I will have my little machine shop setup and it looks like I will be on course to have the suburban project ready to go.

I need to give the fence “repair” guys a bit of credit, last night the flashlight made the wood look like untreated, they did use PT, but the brace is regular wood.

After talking with the neighbor, it is clear I will need to fix the fence, I took too long to deal with it, so no way any insurance company will be involved. Lesson learned, never have neighbors.

I need to do a bit of office work today, then off to the shop. I think with the busses leaving on Monday, I would like to try and list some things on craigslist and ebay. I feel like I should do this to attempt to make some money on items that have "value", if they don't sell, then they can go to the auction in October or get donated to charity. One reason I want to get some things sold is I would like to buy a couple new toys, this would allow me to fund them with just a bit of effort on my part, rather than dipping into funds that should be going elsewhere. I theory it all sounds good, but the rest of life could get in the way instantly. Heck, as I type this I am remembering that I need to finish the clothes dryer for the deck, I told the GF it would be operational this weekend.

Looks like that brace needs to go on the other side of fence.

Believe me, the passive aggressive Strouty wants to use multi colored plywood and a big brace on the other side of the fence.

So, getting lunch and the girl says have a good evening, I am thinking WTF, then I realize it is 5 PM and I haven’t even been to the shop yet. I guess I will at least get a couple hours in, but tomorrow looks like it may be office only as I have to go to my sister’s birthday party. Honestly, right now I need to concentrate on making as much money as I can anyways. I think it will take me a week to get stuff ready for the auction, but there is a ton of stuff to deal with in between now and then. The next month is going to ****, but once October rolls around, things should be looking much better!

Unloaded my truck, cleaned up the conex a bit, probably the cleanest it has been in years. Even have a bunch of open shelves and about 20 empty drawers. I have a few more things to do outside, then I need to move some stuff around inside. I feel much better already.

I should have taken a before pic, I had a ton of stuff from the storage bus that was in there. I am running out of daylight so not much more outside progress.

Pines, I really have about 75 empty drawers if you count the Lista cabinets in the shop, on the trailer, and the one in my old office. Once I get the time, the shop will be very organized and I intend on labeling them all, plus having some sort of electronic inventory control in place for the future. If I can get my act together, this winter will be when I move the stock room to the other end of the shop, at that point it will be more permanent and I will feel a lot more comfortable spending all the effort to get things organized. Right now it kind of seems pointless as nothing will be in the same location or configuration once I move it to the other end. I can figure out drawer sizes and basic layouts, so that has been a step forward. I can also probably make all my magnetic labels, they won’t change much, probably just add to them as I go.

Since I didn’t take a before picture of outside, I will take one inside.

My toy arrived today, I so want to start setting it up, but I will use it as a reward for getting things cleaned up a bit more.

Cleaned the middle bay up pretty well, still need to go through a bunch more boxes. I think I will tear down the Quincy air compressor pump, it is so in the way and essentially it is just parts, so might as well make the thing more manageable.

Oh and I just wanted everyone to know, I love my wagon! It steered left, then right, and bam it was in the right spot without hitting anything. I do need to extend the handle, it is awful to move any distance as I am hunched over and pulling with two fingers due to the ring on the end.

At the office just long enough to get not too much done, off to a Birthday party, then to the shop. Last night was a late night, I got home close to 11, then did my laundry while eating dinner. Went to bed around 2:30, I hope tonight is not that bad. I do hope tonight is as productive as yesterday was, I think I can bring a bunch of items out to the conex, now that I know how many drawers are available.

Well, today looks like a no shop day now, had to deal with some issues, oh well. At least I am being paid to deal with these issues, that means more shop supplies later!

I hope everyone has a nice day.

Getting paid is nice, but I would prefer to be doing something productive at the shop. Today is bus moving day, we should have two of them gone completely, the third one is a risk to drive the 1.5 hours to its final destination, it will probably make it, but due to the holiday we don’t want to chance it. I am willing to bet getting a bus towed on Labor Day would be expensive.

I am hopeful that this process goes smoothly, then I will have a bit of shop time this afternoon. I have plenty to do, that is for sure.

Got to hit it in preplanned spurts sometimes. 75 degrees when I got up this morning. I went for it.

Climbed onto shop roof peak, laid spreadeagle on peak and changed out a gable yard light. Needed three hands, only had two.

Removed an old DTV dish while I was up there.

Mounted a driveway motion detector alert on my head walls at the driveway entrance.

Installed a freshly painted belt cover on my lathe restoration. Declared it complete.

I got all that done in about an hour because every step had been preplanned and tools and parts gathered previously.

That is the way I seem to get the most things done without distractions or spinning my wheels. I’m 65.

RJ, that is what I have been trying to do lately, I get a plan of action and start. I used to wait until I had things “perfect” but that wasn’t working at all. At this point I feel I have accomplished 10 times what I used to get done in a day. I still need to work on losing some weight, and getting more exercise, the biggest issue I have right now is lack of sleep, I can’t sleep more than a few hours without waking up in pain, it really *****, especially when I go to bed not sore, and wake up feeling like I was beaten by a two by four. It seems to be a thing called sleep tension, I actually get more tense while sleeping, mostly in my legs, then it pulls my lower back, then my hips end up out of whack and it is very painful. I am going to try and wake up around 1 AM and stretch for a bit, then go back to sleep, not sure if it will help, but only 5 hours of sleep doesn’t work for me.

We did get all the busses out of my yard, two were delivered to their final resting place and the last one will get there probably next week. I am totally worn out and over heated right now, but I am going to do a bit of cleaning, then head home.

Good going on the busses! I waited until the shade from the trees covered the front of my shop about 5 pm and went back out and did a fresh install of an electronic deadbolt on the shop door, so I managed to get at least 5 things done today, even with the heat here. It was a 101 heat index about 2 pm today. I wear glasses, so if it was not for a sweat band I would not be able to see a damn thing for sweat running.

I wish I had a sweat band today, I could have gone all Richard Simmons, sweating to the oldies!

I did end up cleaning up the catch tray from the new bandsaw, some of the stuff was stuck to the bottom, must have gotten wet at some point, it was rusted into a nasty bunch of chunks. Then I used the saw to cut up some aluminum flat bar I needed to convert some file drawers at the office. I got a few things ready to go out to the conex, but decided to wait until it cools off a bit before dragging it out there.

Outside I started assessing things again, the ambulance is next on the list, then my old Volvo wagon. I need to rob a few parts off the suburban carcass and get rid of that too. The big deal is to get the moving van trailer ready to go to the auction, I want to have it loaded and ready to go, I have a few weeks, but realistically only a few days to make it happen. That scares me a bit, but I have faith I can make it happen.

Once the moving trailer is gone, then I can work on demolishing the other two old truck boxes, one may be salvageable, but has little to no value. Probably slap it on craigslist for dirt cheap or free. The other one is toast, the sides have separated and it needs to be flattened and taken away in pieces. I think this winter will be the cleanest the yard has been in a long time, it will be kind of nice.
