Picked up this nice set only problem its missing a 3/8... overall in good condition with a few minor rust spots and some small separations in the plastic dividers. Were these SK made? What general years were they made. All are stamped made in USA If anyone has a 3/8 let me know Im looking to complete the set. Thanks!

Yep, S-K. From the 80's. Earlier Penncrafts were New Britain, RP pattern, very different looking. Look at the tool roll carefully - there may be a copyright date on it.
I have quite a few Penncrafts, but no JCPenneys.
The rolls are rarer than the wrenches-good save.
Hint: the address has a ZipCode, not a postal zone number. When was that changed?

When did JC Penney’s stop selling tools? I have Kennedy machinist box with jC Penney’s stamp on it trying to date it.

From conversations with the in-laws, former SK employees, JC Penney would contract with them to make limited runs of wrench and socket sets around the holidays, mostly Father's Day and Christmas.
Thorsen also made sets for JC Penney, as there are some Thorsen sets in the collection.

Ive had a fe wrenches here and there but nothing like this.
The wrench roll and being over 11/16 in size is what hets me the largest Ive seen up to this point is a 11/16

I’ve seen Sears branded, Wal-Mart branded and now JC Penny’s brand of wrenches, pretty wild.
Back when retail was strong. You could go to JC Penny and buy a complete set of quality USA made tools, table saw, drill press, shop equipment, tool storage, etc..
My step dad was a Montgomery Ward's man, so he left a full line of Powr-Kraft tools which I cherish and use.
If you ever saw the 1979 zombie film Dawn of the Dead, one of the characters grabs a JC Penny screwdriver and jabs it into the head of a zombie.
Sounds right - I lived in Denver then, and remember the change from Zone 9 to 80209.

I bought most of my set when I was working at JC Penney in the early seventies. I've collected a few filler sizes since. I'm only missing the 1 1/4". There's been one on eBay for months, but I refuse to pay the sellers price. I don't need it that bad! I thought if I had an extra 3/8" I'd send it to the OP, but I just checked and it's the 7/16" that I have a duplicate of. Sorry

What I’ve always found odd, is the 3/8” and 7/16” wrenches have a six point boxed end, while all the rest have 12 point boxed ends. The part numbers are consecutive, so all wrenches are correct for the set.
