My Doctor friend and his family came over yesterday. We played around with the hot wire cutter then we poured my new burner handle so they could see lost foam.

attachment.php

I like the old refrigerator door handle feel.

They had a young friend who wanted to forge a sword so we fired up the forge, and I made a handle for an old ball pein they had. No pictures!

Today I had a few minutes so I milled out the lathe stop castings.

All that is left is to drill the top and bottom

attachment.php

And they will clamp to the way to make a positive stop.

Company coming Wednesday and all day Thursday!!

Thanks for the visits!

Burner handle reminds me of an old fridge door handle. Hopefully stays nice and cool on the burner too.

While you are at it you should make a second lathe stop bracket with a slightly higher profile to hold a dial indicator too. Just cross drilled and a thumbscrew to hold the indicator shaft.

Good stuff as usual Andy, I'd like to be on the list for a set of punches and should have enough copper, brass, and aluminum to offset the material used. I've been cleaning out the dump on our place and finding more precious metals than I expected.

Really enjoying your "Adventures in Aluminum" and looking forward to possible "Adventures in Cast Iron" !!

:bounce: Thanks!! After A in A, we have to go to A in B before A in C.

Thanks for the kind words! Some machine tool parts are best in cast iron for the internal dampening qualities so I'm realizing A in C is a must.

Andy as per usual you have done it again.:thumbup:

Thanks, Steve! Always a joy to have you visit!

Hmmm, I need more incentive. I use my magnetic mount on the cross slide and I think often the cross slide would be in the way of a way-mounted stop. I'm still thinking, though.

I'm ready to see you foaming at the crucible.

Thanks, JB! You know I owe you big time for all you've already given me, but I'll happily get deeper in debt.

Punches are on the way, eventually.

I hope they like it :) But that would be Stanley Black and Decker as the owner.

I plan to make some to distribute but they'll have my name on them so much less valuable.:headscrat

Thanks for the good words!

I'm fizzing at the bung to be frothing at the crucible!

Thanks for the good words!

Wouldn't that make it a DeWalt punch as it is part of the yellow product line owned by the same group? :lol_hitti

A Handy Andy Punch sounds great or is that Andy's Handy Punch. When is a punch a drift for that matter? :headscrat

Good point on your punch assessment, I guess that makes it a center punch.

In my world a drift or drift pin is a lineup tool and may be made of softer material. We use a drift to line up structural members when you can get the small end just through a hole, driving it on in aligns the holes and you put a bolt in adjacent holes. I'm sure you knew that. But drifts tend to be longer and bigger than punches.

So a punch is a drift when you use it incorrectly and punches, in my experience, make poor drifts but still can drift a clip into place.

I know you knew but I knew it so I just wanted to say it:lol_hitti:lol_hitti

My momma always said "you don't have to say it just because you thought it" and I never grasped that statement.:bounce:

Not much shop work today, but I did get my lathes stops drilled.

Looks like they'll work. Right now I have a nut on the bottom of each. I plan to replace the nut with a tapped piece of steel with ears to keep it from spinning so it a one ******** to tighten and loosen but I was too lazy to finish the job. And after a few uses I'll decide whether the loose nut on the bottom is an issue.

Got visitors coming tomorrow. I'm eager.

Wait a second now you are Eager, just when I thought I had you figured out you go from Andy to Eager. I work with an Edgar and have read stories about a lab assistant named Igor but I've never met an Eager before. Well nice to meet you Eager Andy.

That handle casting is cool as hell, I also like the old style hefty handles. Guess I need to start drinking beer from cans again for stock!

Pretty cool you have a doctor in shop while you work, that'd be a good thing for Shorty to do.:lol_hitti

Andy, it occurs to me that Griz is going to go home and tell everyone we exaggerate when we talk about Midwest summer weather. He will tell them the heat is quite bearable, it rains frequently and everything is lush and green. 🤣[emoji23][emoji16][emoji3]

QUOTE Got visitors coming tomorrow. I'm eager.

That's nice, anyone we know ? :lol_hitti[/QUOTE]

If you knew them would you be glad they were coming?

That's nice, anyone we know ? :lol_hitti

No idea.

But this car of clowns is about 20 miles outside of Tulsa.[/QUOTE]

What a car of clowns! I had such a nice time. It's a wonder that mustard, ketchup, and mayo get a long so well together.

That handle casting is cool as hell, I also like the old style hefty handles. Guess I need to start drinking beer from cans again for stock!

Thanks! The lost foam is so easy it exhilarating.

Is there a doctor in the house? His wife is a doctor as well. And, he is a surgeon so he can stitch. So when they are here we are loaded for Shorty to show.

We are in heaven in Oklahoma.

Rian is a prince. He improved my dogs' demeanor just by showing up.

I don't understand the Mini grand tour, I don't own a Mini.

So glad these guys would take the time to come out to my junk pile. I did have to keep taking things back out of their car.:wtf:

Rian, a word of warning about Andy's barbi. From what I've seen it burns snags and steaks pretty fast.

Thanks for the kind words, Bob!

Awesome..:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Yes, Sharon is awesome!

No place for shrimp, that barbie! :bounce:

Skewers...

Good to see that the company made it safe.

Dwight

Not only safe, but early. Early is very nice.

Let the shenanigans commence! Hoping to spot some action shots and maybe a caboose to boot!

The caboose is too big to put in the boot.

I neglected to take any pictures. Rian was using up all his film so I think we're covered. I don't guess we have posted any Cali pictures. They're coming.

I made sure the Coke machine was full and it did get a workout.

So a little bird tells me that Rian got a ride in the "Show Truck" today. Can't wait to hear the full story of the day's shenanigans.

Rian had his ride on the show truck, then Dennis, then Craig. Craig has a collection of post-war 1940's Chevy's so he knew all about it.

Your Turkey talks too much. 🦃

But I did manage to get the privilege

There you go.

Thanks Andy, we all loved it.

No, Rian, there you go!

My goodness Cali is a beautiful dog !!

Also, around 1:08 I noticed an old school bus. I guess i have an eye for them ... Would that happen to be on your property Andy ??

Cali is a very nice dog. You also get to see Hershey. Cali has the blue collar, Hershey can't seem to keep a collar on.

Ahh, the Hay Bus. That's a full size school bus that has had the body shortened to one row. Crew rides in the cab and the emergency door opens onto the bed. It has a hitch for a popup loader for small square bales. The guy that built it would haul 300 bales on it. Ten tons. It had no brakes and the clutch went out while he was hauling for me so I bought it. Good 351/2 engine and transmission. I've not got it fixed yet and sat it by the road to sell. No nibbles in twenty years but I'm hopeful.

You just back right off on that bus Buddy :)

That is my bus.

Rian was trying to figure out how to put the bus in carryon. He may be a dreamer but he dares dream the impossible dreams!

Looks like a fun time was had by all.

I'd missed the news that Cali had moved to your home, Andy.

The only people who didn't have fun were those who didn't come.

I thought I announced Cali's arrival but guess I failed.

Mighty fast dog that Hershey is!

Sent from my LG-H918 using The Garage Journal mobile app

Hershey is fast, and Cali too. Blue collar Cali. She about killed herself trying to keep up with the Award Winning Show Truck. I guess we failed to get a shot of the Award Winning Show Truck with it's trophy.

Not an issue. After meeting the legend in person I now realize no one really listens to him anyway. I even stopped.:lol_hitti

I have enjoyed last month when I'd meet another rancher just comment "last half of August, pastures are all burned up". It's weird year. We hit !00F twice I think, but not over 100 and not for more than one day at a time. If this is global warming, I'm in. I guess I'm in like it or not.

Been busy but I thank the three amigos for showing up, and Dreaming muscle (he made the effort to come after work and brought brass), it was a great day I will remember for weeks (at this age, that's a long time).

Andy its great to read you guys have had a fantastic day together.:thumbup:

What is it with dogs trying to bite on a wheel when it turns, Shelby and the Rodents do it as well:confused:

Thanks! It was far more than I expected.

I've tried to figure it out on the dogs biting tires and can't even guess. It must be something about the motion, they stop when you stop. Cali does not, and I haven't seen Hershey do it until that day. They were both hyper all day with the strange accents.

What's up with girls and accents anyway?

All I know is some British birds like Southern accents.:bounce:

Great that a good time was had by all.

Dwight

It was an amazing day and a half for me.

My son had brought his three cows and their calves for breeding at the beginning of the summer. His neighbor no longer has a bull so he drove them 100 miles for the free use of a gimpy bull. He was coming back Saturday to get his now bred (hopefully) cows so Cali and I went to call them up. Cali was having fun until the cows showed up.

attachment.php

She went ballistic. I guess she had just ignored them in the pasture, or she was protecting me. So she had to get on a lariat. I tied her too close to the corral first time.:lol_hitti

attachment.php

She eventually had to have a timeout in the car carrying trailer (black tailgate). We got them all in to have a snack

attachment.php

Three hours later my son showed up and we sorted, wormed, and then loaded his. They balked and he commented "I'm glad it's not just at my house we have amateur hour". I have a hot shot but really dislike using it so we got them in but it took a while.

I realize I got not one picture of the distinguished entourage that came through here so I'm relying on Rian and Craig to prove it happened.
