Greetings all,

I love this forum and it is responsible for a lot of purchases from numerous Tekton tools because of it and I am happy with my purchases. That being said I have not found any reviews of the newer reversible ratcheting wrenches. Has anyone tried them and if so what are the pros and cons? If this has been discussed can you lead me to the source?

Thank you ahead of time for any help.

cons
6 point
quite thick heads

pros
warranty likely pretty good if have issues
have good size coverage and set size choices .
Priced pretty good considering usable warranty

Personally I prefer 12point off corner as easier get on fixings in tight or crusty scenarios. also prefer slimmer heads as makes them far more usable in all scenarios .
For me one of best lower cost sets is the facom although prices on those gone up about 30% in last 2months.

I bought a few Tekton reversible ratcheting wrenches to try out.

I like them. I don't think their heads are any thicker than any other ratcheting wrench but, i don't own the uber expensive Facoms mentioned above.

I don't have any issues with the six point ratcheting boxed end. the six point features off corner engagement and positioning it on a fastener isn't an issue (at least for me) since the crisp 72 tooth ratcheting action allows for quick positioning.

The wrenches have nice chrome, comfortable beams, and good balance.

If i could change anything about them, i would make them in a longer pattern.

Hey Fed, why the hell would anybody that lives where we do need to use a six point wrench? Going to SEMA? I got my badge and wondered if you'd like to get together at the show and walk the aisles for awhile.

Thank you for your input Fedwrench. Is the selector switch plastic or metal? It is hard to tell on their website.

I'm registered but, haven't got my badge yet, sounds like a plan, I'll reach out when it gets closer to make sure work doesn't get in the way.

It's metal.

That's why I prefer high end regular wrenches. :D

Thanks Fedwrench. You are one of the most open minded commenters on the forum and always give a rational, real world opinion on new stuff.

That is very much appreciated and sadly lacking most of the time.

I own the new style Snap-on reversibles. They are the smallest profile I've ever seen but I haven't used the Facom so maybe they are better. The Snap-on are quite long which is nice.

However comparing $500 wrench sets to $150 sets is somewhat silly. Are there situations where only the smaller profile wrench will fit? Certainly. The rest of the time the more affordable option is a more rational choice as long as it isn't prone to breakage.

The snapon reversibles are pretty amazing engineering but at about 50bucks a piece so they should be .
I think facom about best pro usable design for midrange cost.
Carolus do a 16pc soft satin finish set made by infar geartech that pretty cheap online at times .
These tekton good at price and fact warranty be useful as they not going stiff you by saying movable parts not covered and a claim be pretty quick and easy . Really don't like the 6point is harder get on fasteners in limited access not just because of rotational alignment but also due to fitment over old rusty/damaged fixings .

Fedwrench, would you recommend them over GW or other brands?

Yes. However, just because i like something doesn't mean that you'll like it too.

Wrenches are a personal choice when it comes to how they feel in your hand.

If you're undecided, buy a single wrench like a 13mm or another size that you use often to see if you like them or not.

It costs nothing to register at Tekton.com and they offer free shipping on all orders once registered. they also have a rewards point program.

Good luck in your quest:beer:

The whole metric set of non reversible is on sale at hd for 20% off - so $60, which still qualifies for free shipping.. not much of a risk if you ask me. Didn't even know they came out with reversible ones. I'd agree that the reversible function is worth having though. I have a set of Dewalt's only because they were on sale for like $49 at one point. I do like the idea of 6 points, and don't see that as being any real issue since they ratchet anyway. For me, a 6 point just "inspires" more confidence, but for anything real stubborn a ratcheting wrench probably isn't the best choice unless youre willing to test how tough they are.

I don't own them, but I wouldn't EXPECT to see much difference between tekton and gearwrench. They have both made a name for themselves in offering good quality at reasonable prices.

Carlyle might be another brand worth exploring. They seem to be in the same price range and have been around for a while now as far as I know.

I agree with like 99% of your posts and view points so far. I'll try one and see. I was looking into going SK. (can't go wrong with SK)
However if I can save money getting something a little cheaper, I will.

So I ordered the 7/16 to test it out and it seems okay. When I first took it out of the box it was stiff and the switch caught once and would not reverse and after a few spins around both directions it is doing well. I will say one direction is easier to ratchet on then off but it seems well built. A couple of cosmetic chrome bubbles but not bad. I like the offfset and the six point. I might just order the ones I need vs a whole set that I may or may not ever need. So if you are interested I would so what was suggested to me by another member to order one size and make your own determination. Tekton seems to make and stand by their stuff so I would recommend them based on this wrenches build and their fantastic customer service.
