So we have this 30x40 steel barn. We finally want to run power to it. The nearest power point is a neighboring subdivision that has its underground electrical easement right up against our property line. The barn is 200ft from the nearest transformer. My thinking is; run secondary from the transformer to the barn. Mount a meter to the side of the barn and have the breaker box inside.
Simple enough?
While running this by someone they suggested to me, to avoid costs of a pedestal and whatnot, set the meter at the property line right next to the transformer with a large "kill switch" under and and run the secondary AFTER the meter to the barn and into the breaker box.
They say it will be cheaper and avoid having to give up a service easement.
Does this sound right?
Our requirements for the barn we will have 4 - 6 4ft light fixtures for sure (LED of course) plus an outside flood lamp. a handful of plugs along the walls for for power tools, a Miller thunderbolt ac/dc and a fan or two. Use of these items will be hobby and weekend use.
Anything else I should consider?
Any tips of suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks
