I meant to ask; what size is it?

I haven't measured the safe so I'm not sure exactly, but the outside dimensions look to be about 15" x 15" x 15" - I suppose it's designed to fit in between wall studs 16" on center, there are mounting ears on each side.

I was really there specifically for the Dake arbor press.

The SK set is still in the cellophane. Did not need it, but after the 60% off it was $17.80.

Someday, I will sell it or give it as a gift.

I paid $45 for the Dake. I have been wanting one for a while. I am just going to do a light cleaning of it, reassemble it, and use it.

I have looked at other arbor presses at estate sales but passed them up. Part of wanting and preferring Dake is that they are made in Michigan.

Not much today but snagged this for $10.

Sadly the sockets do not match the ratchet but it will make a good beater or backup set.

Another yard sale on the way home today. Two Disston saws - the jab saw isn't much but the back saw is a #4 from i think around 1940 and is quite nice (date is edited see below), with a hallmark that's still pretty visible. $1 each. The Stanley hammer was another $1, and the Stanley block plane was $4; it's kind of rough but will clean up well enough to be put back into service.

edited to add: thanks to board member LesserSon in this separate discussion about saws, I was able to more accurately date the two saws. The back saw is from the 1947-1955 time frame, while the jab saw is from the 1896-1917 timeframe - I wouldn't have guessed that. But, I also realized the tip of the jab saw is broken off...I should have figured that out right away, as it is squared on the tip instead of going to a point. Oh, well. Craigslist find. A 9 drawer Craftsman bottom box and a 24" Crescent wrench. The box is well used but pretty straight so I will have to pull all of the drawers and clean the slides and the cabinet and remove the stickers. Always wanted a giant Crescent wrench, but never really needed one. Also included a handful of odds and ends tools to go thru later as well. How do I find a key for this box?

Estate sale about 10 mins away today netted me this bunch of tools; couple of Cman RHFT ratchets, Starrett tap handles & rules, Channellock pliers, nice little metric drill guide and a Plomb puller with an extra set of arms!

So, was checking CL for new toolboxes in the area. Ran across an interesting box in tools for sale. Clicked on it (the price was not mentioned) to learn more about the interesting box (sometimes people write details).
The price was.....0$
I decided to try my luck (having full day or work ahead) and wrote to the owner that I would be interested to take it as it would be a great addition for my growing SK collection, but that I could not pick it up till the late evening....
Well, I met this nice gentleman 11 hours later and picked up this box which he bought in early 70s with other tools. At this point he decided to let the box go to a new house.
I am very grateful to him and happy to find this nice box which will be used for holding some of my SK tools.
At this point I do not want to restore it - will just give it a quick cleaning, liner for the bottom and start using it.

P.S. Does anybody know where I could find another label (does SK sell them?)?
I am thinking that if I can not find an original and find a parts box which would have no hope, but the emblem, I will transfer the emblem from earlier period (SK Wayne or diamond logo)...
Also, if you have the same box, please let me know if some kind of a tray is supposed to be inside: there are 4 extension points in the corners at mid height - they had to be used for something...

How do I find a key for this box?

There should be a number on the lock face. Take that number to a locksmith shop and tell them it's a Craftsman toolbox. They should be able to look up the key code and make you a new key.

I managed to get this tool box and it’s contents for $24 at a sale today. The majority of it is metric. The sockets are sk wayne metric. Unfortunately there are a couple holes, but that will give me something to work on. The sk wrenches are metric and so are the protos.

We needed to run to Nevada to do errands so we thought we would hit some sales. All the early sales were busts but the last one was way out in the middle of the desert down highway 395. When we finally arrived we were allowed into the almost impassible shop and found a few tools. He then informed us that the main sale was in the house so off we went. The house was packed with sale items plus a decent assortment of tools. Here’s what we found. The first picture is everything, the second 12” x 24 tpi hacksaw blades. The third and fourth are an early pair of pliers that I don’t know much about. The next one is Snap-on followed by screw starters. The last one is some Unbrako and Allen hex keys, GMTK correct.

Those Bernard pliers are neat. Newer ones are not that uncommon (I think a lot of them were made during WWII and then sold afterwards as surplus) but I've never seen any that old before.

Hit only one estate sale today, guy was a woodworker so not many hand tools. Spent $70 total.

Pic 1 and 2. Craftsman Crown logo box and tools, the 1/4" drive RHFT ratchet was one of my favorite finds of the day.


Pic 3: The other hand tools, from bottom Fleet wrench, Indestro extension and universal, Proto screwdriver, SK Lectrolite wrench, SK wrench, Snap On 15 MM wrench, Starrett ruler, Williams wrench and other Williams tools.

Pic 4 and 5: Heavy duty like new 5" casters, only markings I could find was the 5x2 size markings.


Pic 6: I didn't buy it but this Rube Goldberg revolving tool box contraption was interesting!


Not pictured is the 30" x 24" welding table I bought with a 5/8 thick steel top. It was thunder and lightning when I got home, will unload it tomorrow.

Out to buy a quart of shellac. Checked out small local flea and two yard sales. $3 brought home an Indestro Super Quality socket box, Cman 3/16 punch, AMPCO nonsparking cape chisel, and a handful of modified punches.

Big sale for those in the Buffalo NY area. Surprisingly judging from the photo's I don't see much in the way of truck brand tools given that the guy had his own shop. Perhaps those were sold or picked previously when he closed up shop. Sale like this you would have take multiple passes to take everything in. Unfortunately this company tends to be high on the tool prices.

I went today, Saturday, day 2, 50% off. I came away nearly empty handed. Maybe all the good stuff went on day one. The only thing I saw worth buying was a Delta 6" belt sander - $125 including 50% off. If I didn't already have one I would have scooped it up.

I got there at 8:30 and they let me in early. I got to mill around with just one other guy in the garage until 9.

At 9 people showed up in force and began buying. There were many ball bearing storage cabinets that were popular.

The hand tools were all partial sets - odds and ends.

Meh.

I left an auction this morning before it started. Hundreds of pounds of hand tools in piles. There was no organization with them just in piles 3-5 inches deep. I got to wondering how they were going to sell them so I just left.

Nice snag. New Britain 1940's era. Push-through plug. I have the same or very similar set. Is the exterior of the box green?

I did okay. I have no idea what brand the box is, but it looks like 3/8-inch drive. I have lots of orphans and partial sets so it'll get used right quick. I have an entire set of the Bonney CV tappet wrenches, in the original roll-up, same exact year, but they're not terribly common and someone else might need this one. No idea if I need the Williams electrical ALLOY Superrench or not. Ditto on the Cornwell DOE (3/8 x 7/16). But I have sets going in both.

Look for a thread on the Vintage Board on the other two wrenches.

Yes I ended up going today and got there about 10:00 or so. Nothing from the photo's was knocking my socks off so I didn't bother skipping out of work yesterday especially it being full price day. As you said not much in the way of sets and even the photos kind of showed that to be the case. So I hit it today as my second stop and because it was 50% day.......I'm typically a bottom feeder

Ended up picking up a Craftsman amber handle speeder and some Vulcan wrenches and one old school Bluepoint. Will post up later with days finds.

Too bad you didn't come up with anything, sometimes that is how it goes..........I know that feeling.

Only went to two sales today. The first one had a lot of tool boxes, but they all needed a lot of work. The second one had a few tools. Picked up a Millers Falls hacksaw and 3 carving tools, 2 Stanley chisels, c clamp, and Plumb and Craftsman ball peen hammers for $5.
