Older 3 piece Craftsman. In the process of restoring it now. What is interesting is that there is a panel that slides out and covers the middle box. Love these older Craftsman boxes.

Did u look to see if there is a date and made in mark? I’ve got one with red slide down door, can’t find any stamping on it. Is the chevron logo on the right side or left side of the panel?
Thanks

Sorry, no luck.
Can't extract a single page from the original and can't get a .doc format to work either.
Maybe when the grand-kids come over I can get this.

99 H 04372K . . . . $17.95

If you are using a Windows based PC, you will have to capture the page using the hotkey combination "Alt PrtScn". This will take a snapshot of the program you currently have open. The best part is that you can zoom in on things and capture them all blown up.

After using "Alt PrtScn", go to your menu bar and open the Microsoft program "Paint". Once open, use the hotkey combination "Ctrl V". This will paste the screen capture to the Paint program. Now simply save the new file as a .jpg image in Paint. You now have a copy of the page you just captured from the catalog.

I picked this up couple months ago. It’s a nice MAC 3 drawer chest.

I’ve been messing with it here and there. Cleaned out all the dirt and grease. I cleaned and waxed all the glides and slides. Besides Craftsman Mac has to be my next favorite vintage box. Im curious on stamp on back.

I had to bring it down to bare steel to read it but how did Mac code their boxes. What would the MB 513 H1 stand for? I figure 3 drawer and H1 some sort of date.

The main question here is why would someone waste a Barnett clutch on a roto-tiller engine ?
Nice box tho. 10 minutes with a lil Milwaukee heat gun will cure the sticker-itis.
Brooksville. Love that place....

Hmmm. What are the dates on the actual boxes? Logo on boxes began around late 80s but paperwork has logo from 70s-80s; key is from 60s-70s.

Ok the top box is stamped made in USA s1290 and the bottom box is stamped made in the USA w-01 91. I know a little of it's history. The owner was in his 80s and kept this in his basement unused. The locks are definitely original.

Ok the bottom box is stamped made in the USA and 1-74, which I assume is Jan. of 1974. The top box is stamped made in the USA and dated 1-74. I don't see any markings on the middle box though. And the Chevron for the middle box cover panel is on the left hand side. Hope this helps you.

Yes and thanks for looking. Those middle boxes are rare and coveted. Guy in Orange County LA is willing to pay $200 posted craigslist ads all over Cali. Learned a lot from RileySan and Taunton about those grey/red beauties.
I pestered the Waterloo plant in Missouri and in Iowa for info on where, when and who made those mid boxes and why they were not stamped but they were not helpful other than sending me Sears catalog pics. There’s an older woman that still works there and was there when they started in Iowa but she wouldn’t talk to me. There was plants in Waterloo Iowa, Missouri, Oklahoma and in the manufacturing corridor on the Mexican/ Arizona border which I believe is where they were made but... no proof. Thanks again👋🏼

I picked up this M1 Armorers' Tool Chest at my flea market this morning. The leather handle points to wartime, but it doesn't have corner supports, which is a little odd. I like the nubs on the bottom to keep the bottom panel off the floor, but it didn't work - that's where the only serious rust has accumulated. I've also never seen a hollow handle on the removeable tray before. While it might only be the engineer in me seeking out design features of form and function, I suspect that may be for keeping small hardware and project pieces.

I've been looking for a decent older toolbox to organize my lathe tooling and thinking all along that I wanted a nice vintage grey/red Craftsman. On the way home from work Friday I ran across a garage sale down the road from my house and found this. It's not the Craftsman that I was after but it should be more than up to the task :). I bundled it with a three piece Mitutoyo Mic set he was selling, handed the man $50 and considered it mission accomplished! A little scrub down, slide cleaning, a couple new slide clips and some elbow grease and it will be good as new. It even has a key.
I have a few empty cases for 6" Mitutoyo 500-196-30 digital calipers, if you're interested.

Certainly made by AMD/Remline but I can't tell who for (or if self branded). Can you see any of the original color on the inside? That might help identify the retailer.!

Nice find!

It's not Snap-on, as I have the same box from Craftsman, with the crown logo. It was made by, as Rileysan says, AMD/Remline. The question I have, does the outside look painted by hand, or is the black seemingly the original color? If it looks painted, I would guess either PowrKraft or sold as a Remline.

By the way, my dad lived in Lodi as a little kid after the war, when the town was still very much a German-speaking town. My great grandmother ran a boarding house.

EDIT: I just went and looked at my Remline top box, and it has a square logo and little men on the drawer pulls. Also, the body is grey while the drawers, inside and out, are red. My Craftsman, top and bottom boxes, are grey everywhere, with just simple decorations on the pulls. If you go through the rest of this thread, you will find a PowrKraft set to check the pulls on. Don't know if that helps, but it is what I got.

The body and carcass seem to be originally the orangy-red. The Black is definitely an over-paint. The handles don’t seem to match CM, Mac, RemLine...so maybe PowerKraft. Who had that line? Montgomery Ward?

PowerKraft was Montgomery Wards house brand

Penncraft tools and boxes from J.C. Penney...disregard the non-matching drawer pulls, ugly blue paint, and Cummins logo covering the empty hole for the lock. This was missing the lid when I got it.

This Powr-Kraft box has pointed pulls and they are marked Powr-Kraft.

Ok let me try this another way. This box uses drawer slides that do not use clips. Rather they use what Craig Steen calls the “lance system” where the drawer and the slide each have opposing projections that catch against one another. The drawers and carcass appear to be originally red. Due to the lance system I assume it is late 50s or very early sixties. But I assumed the telling feature would be those silver colored handles with round non-pointy ends, and acorn nuts. So again the question: Does anyone know the brand and vintage of this box?

I've only seen this "lance system" on mid-70s and newer Craftsman/Waterloo boxes, after the chevron logo era, when the Craftsman boxes were identified with a flat metal logo tag and continuing through the plastic Craftsman logo years. Have worked from older and newer Kennedy, Snap-On, and Mac boxes that used different drawers sliders.

Drawer pulls look AMD/Remline-ish, but the acorn nuts are a nice touch.

Those pulls are usually riveted. Maybe they were removed and bolted back on? Looks remline to me, and I think they did bolt their pulls on some.

I still think it is RemLine. They didn't always have a logo on their pulls and they even had a short window that they used rounded edges. Those pulls were originally riveted and the PO used bolts to reattach after they painted. Look at the thread I've included and you'll see the first post shows a RemLine with the exact same pulls as the black box - without bolts.

I wondered about that very thing and noticed the same as well. Surprised someone would go to the trouble to grind off rivets just to paint. But I feel like you are right. Ok here is a question. Where the badge went there is a larger hole on the viewer’s left and a smaller hole on the viewer’s right. When I bought it Simone had bolted on a Mercedes emblem thru the big hole on left. Would that hole pattern be known to match Remline badging?IMG_6537.jpg

Likely not a Remline badge, but Remline made boxes for everyone. I would expect to see the normal pattern or Remline Man on the handles were it originally a Remline branded box.

Twertsy, look at the box in the link I provided. It doesn't have the Remline Man, or Remline script on the handles. The holes on the black box look like they would align with the script Remline badge from the box I'm referencing.

Here are mine (except the bottom box on the left) all made by AMD. This should give you an idea of the Remline colors (top box on left) compared to Craftsman Colors, the stack on the right.
