Hit an estate sale yesterday, and one today. Yesterdays was OK, but I wasn't expecting much and it was close by. Todays looked great in the pics, but it was kinda far. So I figured what the heck lets do it, it starts at 11 but I can't make it til noon. Get there, still have to wait in line, finely get inside, and the prices are sky high! 75 bucks for an old SK set kinda high. Manage to find a couple things that weren't too bad. Got the Speedex tin full of machine screws and the extension yesterday for $3 and the P&C rat and Whitney punch today for $10.50

Picked up a couple Proto obstruction wrenches and a dbe Craftsman, router guides, a flask and a steam cleaner today.
I did NOT buy the ($60)grinder but the base is cool as ever. Anyone recognize the maker? I didn't see any names.

Went to the sale today that had pictures of two Snap-On boxes. One was a top and bottom box (vintage) that sold for $150! Other one is still for sale for $60!

Here’s what I got from that sale.
Almost every socket you see is a Snap-On. The pliers and side cutters are Snap-On. Five of the extensions are Snap-On.

I had a rough day at the flea market today. Everything I picked up, tool related or not, had an untouchable price. A few regular vendors at this flea are some of the worst to deal with and nasty for no apparent reason.
There’s a regular vendor I’ve never dealt with before, younger guy with a loud mouth. Today he had tools so I stopped to look. I saw two things I was interested in.
I asked the price on an older SK 3/8 extension, he says 5 bucks. Not unreasonable, but a little outside my price range. I said okay and picked up a Proto 1/2 impact extension and asked how much is this extension?
He gets real loud and mouthy and starts talking real irritated like I’m some kind of a**hole.
He was possibly from NYC by his speech plus I overheard him talking about going there. He goes, those extensions are five, the other one is seven(he picks up a 10” long 1/2 extension completely wrapped in electrical tape, drops it back down). He starts blathering in my face how the smaller extensions are $20 apiece to go buy one, and the larger extension (mystery cheapo brand covered in tape) are $30 apiece, blah blah blah. Which is fine, except I hadn’t said a word regarding the price he gave! Then he goes back to talking to his neighbors and saying how it’s so slow there today.
I looked through and put small pile together and offered $15. He immediately says no, which was fine, I expected that by his attitude. Then he prices out each individual thing and tells me $27. That was more than I wanted to spend so I chose the ones I really wanted, said I’ll take the two extensions, little tire levers, and a rusty Buck chisel with a broken handle , which should have come to $19 as was what he priced them.. He says sorry no, that was the discounted price for everything, and starts raising things by $1 apiece.
I said thanks, but that’s more than I want to spend, and walked. Sometimes you have to know when to walk. Especially when people talk to you like an a-hole.

Dang that sounds like a terrible day at the flea market. I have similar experiences when I go. My local flea market is 99% mexicans (not exaggerating) who attend as well as sell. I have no problem with this at all and would attend weekly. I started noticing pricing for me is higher than other (Mexican) people. That started to piss me off a little bit but if it’s not priced right I won’t buy it so no big deal. Problem is if I say no thank you they ****** the tools out of my hand and act like I’m a *******. The last and final time I went there I found a bunch of Snap-On stuff in a box. While I’m looking through the box and putting my pile toghether I overhear (I speak some Spanish) the owner of the tools and some other guy saying “look at this white boy, he’s going to buy a lot, watch”. That was it for me and that flea market. I told him (in Spanish) “I understand you” and instead of being embarrassed he was angry with me and told me to leave his booth.
Let me just be clear in saying I have no problem with anyone of any background. If you treat me fair I will treat you fair. Easy as that. I get treated like I’m a ******* who has tons of cash and am a sucker who is going to pay ridiculous prices because I’m white. Well, they all found out real quick that that’s not the case.

Same here, I go out there and treat others with respect as there is no reason not to, especially a stranger. I will say the seller today was a younger white guy and he just acts like a loud mouth jerk. Talking irritably to a new customer, that won’t get him any points with me.
At the other flea which I like much more, lots of Mexican/Hispanic and mix of sellers. Some are pricey to buy from, but that’s everwhere. I get along with everyone, though I get the feeling the longer I’ve been going there, the higher the prices get from some vendors, lol.

Only stopped at one sale and an antique store today. The sale had a lot of Harbir Freight stuff priced like it was in the store. Did manage to find a nice Stanley No. 199 utility knife for $2 and a set of Elwyn test leads for $2.
The antique store is only a few blocks from my house and is closing next month so it's fairly picked over. Paid $6 for 58 switch and receptacle plates, tub of switches and receptacles, small hinges and a small old US brass garden hose nozzle.

This weekend's garage sale purchases:
A 7 piece set of Wiha small screwdrivers
A pair of aviation snips. I already have a full set of Wiss snips but these are Diamalloy, made in Duluth, MN and I've never seen them before so I'll add them to my Diamalloy / Diamond Calk collection.
A never used Vlcheck plastic parts box. I know there are some Vlcheck collectors here; I've seen their wrenches, etc. before but never a plastic box. For a buck I couldn't pass it up.
Finally, two Zenith radios, a Transoceanic and a real nice AM-FM table radio. Both work fine, the table radio has great sound. Ever since I was a kid I always wanted a Transoceanic, even though these days listening to shortwave has pretty much gone by the wayside, and I got the table radio because it's just cool and finding a tube radio of that vintage with the FM band is pretty uncommon.

You had more patience than me! I've shared my a-hole vendor stories in the past. There are two guys in particular who like to immediately insult anyone who dares even question a price or make an offer, and whose stuff I walk past on purpose now, eyes locked forward, just hoping they ask me why I'm not even looking so I can say, "I wouldn't take your stuff if it were for free."

One guy just popped into my head from Buffalo. He was an old guy, either Polish or Ukranian. A true weekly regular, he would just sit there and drink with his buddies and speak in whichever language, but never really had anything good to sell. I believe he straight up garbage picked every piece he ever sold. I did buy a tool or two from him once. I did check out his wares whenever I passed by, because I don’t want to miss anything.
Anyway, one time he had this old bicycle for sale, nothing too special. I stopped and was looking at it, reading the badge. He stands up and starts screaming at me. He says what you looking for? Why you always look? You never buy anything! That was the last time I bothered with him.

Yeah, the DoD must have ordered way, way too many. Used to be able to get them new in army kraft/foil paper pouches a few years ago for peanuts. I think early 80s production.

I won this vise on an online auction. Picture #1 was the only Picture the auction company listed. The listing said "8N 187 Vise". I couldn't tell how big it was so I put in a max bid of $15 dollars and won it for 15 dollars. Imagine my surprise when I went to pick it up today that it was actually a "6 IN 137 vise" that weighs 124.5 pounds. I'm not familiar with that model number, but I'm thinking it is an older REED vise. Only markings I can find are shown in the pictures. End of the dynamic is marked 137B.

Wednesday Craigslist find. $25 for the Craftsman top and bottom box with contents. My favorites are the original Craftsman toolbox and Cole vise and drill pamphlets. I even found one of the Craftsman Chevron emblems for the boxes. I also found the KEYS for the boxes!

Thursday Estate sale, spent $32.75 total at the first sale and $25 at the second.
Pic 1: I had been looking around at this sale and not finding much other than the hammers. I noticed one lower cabinet had stuff in it and opened one door. Just junk. I tried opening the other door but it wouldn't open. Looked around and found a hidden catch, got it open. First glance nothing, then I got down low and looked in the corner. Hey there's an untouched Craftsman toolbox hiding under there! Judging by the cobwebs and dust it had been under there for years! Everything in this picture came out of there. Craftsman 9 piece DOE wrench set in Crown logo pouch, file in pouch, chisel, screwdriver and screw starter, hand snips, Long C logo T-bevel, Companion pliers, Dunlap chisels, allen wrench holder and pliers.

Pic 3: Sears vintage hardware.
Pic 4: The other stuff from the toolbox. The small calipers are West Germany.

Friday estate sale is more about the story than the pictures. Spent $18 total. Only reason I went to this sale was because it was close by. Only picked up 2 tools, a Craftsman 1" 6 point socket and a Proto keychain screwdriver. Also picked up a vintage butcher paper holder. The story is about some wood I found, a small shed had some 3/4" thick plywood and pegboard. One sheet looked like it was not quite 4x8. Didn't have a tape measure to check. I needed a sheet of plywood for the pallet rack I just picked up for a shelf. I was hoping it would work, I have the normal 42" deep pallet shelf. I get it home and measure it and it is EXACTLY 42" wide and 96" long, ABSOLUTELY PERFECT and I didn't even have to cut it!

Saturday estate sale in the boonies, 35 miles away. Pictures looked interesting. I spent 32 on tools and $20 for the ladder rack.
Pic 1: The Craftsman. The toolbox is pretty roached but the metal Craftsman Chevron logo was needed for another box making it well worth the $6. The tap and die set will
donate 2 pieces to my own slightly older kit.
Pic 2: From the top, Diamond hatchet ( turned out to be Chinese when I got back in cell phone range and could do a search) Starrett plomb bb, Petersen C-clamp vise grips, Snap On tools including a 10 piece SAE impact socket set from 7/16 to 1", sockets and crowsfoot, Plomb WF breaker bar and a big DBE and a Lisle T60 Torx bit.
Pic 3: I was trying to help a guy load put this System One Contractors ladder rack on his Dodge 1/2 ton shortbed truck but it was just too small, meant for a Ranger or other compact truck. He didn't want it so I got it for $20, they are around $800 new!
Pic 4: The guy built a cool log cabin, it was even nicer inside.

I had a chance to check out a couple of sales on Friday.
I found this Springfield hub puller. There are no markings on the main body. The T-bar has "500" on one side and an 8 inside of a pentagon on the other. Each arm has the following forged in:
DROP FORGED
SPRINGFIELD
PAT. PEND.
MADE IN USA
Internet search indicates it is a Springfield model 500 puller.
I also purchased a SIPCO tool case (Model 235-20 Open Front Style Chest) from an Offerup contact. It is full of craft tools and Dremel bits.
My best score was 21 pieces of Fiestaware for $5.00, which will make my wife happy!

Today was the second weekend of the Round Top (TX) Antiques Fair. It's a really huge thing with booths and buildings set up across multiple roads and towns. I found this un-dinged Shapleigh rip claw for my electrical tools. Apparently they weren't manufactured after the 1960s so the shape of it is remarkable. I also picked up a 7.62mm ammo can to use as a small water-resistant tool box.

I found an ad on FB marketplace for a lot of two tool boxes and their contents for $100. Naturally I couldn't resist at least going and checking them out. I'm glad I did. There is an entire drawer full of old wrenches mostly v series Craftsman but a bunch of other USA manufacturers. The entirety of the top of one of the boxes is v series Craftsman sockets. Needless to say the boxes are in meh shape but they are Craftsman and they have the keys lol.
I think the worst part was as I was checking it out he mentioned he had bought a bunch of tools off from an old fella that was moving and couldn't take them with him. He was keeping the other box he had bought. A shiny new kobalt box full of Lowe's tools

I offered him $60 and he accepted it! I have a few pictures in a Google album that I will try and get posted. I have to leave them sitting for awhile lots of projects and winter is coming.

The little leatherette thing is a notepad. The “THINK” that you see on it, a slogan first used by Thomas J. Watson of National Cash Register (NCR) and Computing-Tabulating-Recording Company (CTR), which later became International Business Machines (IBM), has been with IBM ever since, embedded in the popular laptops known as ThinkPads. This one required a pen or pencil, but it belonged to someone named "J Cassidy" of IBM who worked, ostensibly, on the SYSTEM/360 project, a mainframe computer released in 1965. I am hoping to re-sell this to a computer geek who appreciates the history and the 1960’s era THINK emblazoned notepad to modern ThinkPad connection. Not very garage related, obviously!

I am hoping to re-sell this to a computer geek who appreciates the history and the 1960’s era THINK emblazoned notepad to modern ThinkPad connection. Not very garage related, obviously!

I grabbed up a bunch of things from the flea yesterday.
A ton of various sockets for a handful of sets I'm working on.
Some wrenches
NOS hammer handles of the Plomb/Proto variety
A trio of Tonka Jeeps
And a Drab colored cabinet and bin.
Sadly, no Jerry cans.
