Saturday at my local, I asked and got them to match an earlier price of .50 per led bulb buying a Sylvania led t8 10 pack for $5.

Today I stopped by and was told “10% of original price” only applying to the clearance pile, not the general clearance in the store. I bought three irrigation pumps, a t5, 4-bulb troffer some 4-pk t8 leds bulbs.
Everything in here (plus the two pumps you can’t see) $120.

One item that was there with the clearance pile was a Troybilt lawnmower that was marked $319, down to 259 clearance. I told the guy that I would buy that mower if the 90% off applied to it. Three vest guys argued among themselves for a bit and decided no, but they’d do 225. I declined.
If I HAD just rolled it to the register along with all the other stuff I might have successfully bought it for 32 bux, but oh well. I don't want be a **** or appear to be stealing Gt .
One problem with the way they are doing this is that nothing scans this way and everything must be an override so the check can be super slow.

Complicating this was the fact that at least two (20y-o)checkout persons had NO IDEA how to determine what ten percent of the marked original price was.
I’m not kidding.
I explained it to them.
Move the decimal.
49.99 becomes 4.99

But. But. But. What about the other nine?
Omg.
What are we raising, I wonder.

I’m gathering quite an eclectic bunch of light fixtures it seems.
Not related to Lowes but I stopped by McCoys and sure enough they had 4-bulb t-8 fixtures in their clearance aisle. And they’re weird, the fixtures are 8’ long, mounting two bulbs wide and two bulbs long.

I did a return/rebuy of an item that of dropped in price at HD. I explained to the girl that she did NOT need to to count out my return money, and could instead enter that as the amount I give her for the re-buy. Holy hell, I soet of wished I never said a thing. It finally hit her after I just about demanded she try it my way. She said she wished she knew about it years ago, as said she thought she new most everything after working CS for many years.

I know most of their work is done on computers/phones, but test these numbskulls on some basic math at hiring. I'm sure when Lowe's trims the labor as I've read they plan to do, I'm sure these will be the ones that stay

As with all retail, they get what they pay for. At $11-12 an hour and mostly part-time, you’re not getting the best of the bunch.

I called Lowes yesterday to see if they would match the sale price of the saw from over the weekend. The guy I got wasn't very friendly and basically said nope.

Anyone know if they would honor the price a couple days later? I know home depot usually does.

I have had pretty good success with managers price matching items BUT I have also had a few "unfriendly" managers who have said NO and walked away....... Any sales clerk will drop a price 10% if you ask them.

Two things I’ve gathered in this recent Lowes event; 1. They are MUCH quicker to match a *competitor’s* price than a Lowes price and
2. I can’t get ANYTHING done discount-wise on the phone. In PERSON, face to face is what is needed.

not sure how to use multi-quote but thanks to gumme and drwheels for the responses!
(and crazyjake!)

Select all the posts you wanted quoted, then scroll to the bottom after the last one, and on the left, hit that 'post' button. That will copy them all for you

Was still showing $469 at my local Lowes despite it showing $579 online there. Got to the register and it still range up $469 no problem. This price is a steal for anyone looking to upgrade.

Went by one of my Lowe's today, looks like they are winding it down, pretty well consolidated to a small area as you walk in. Most things were only 50% off original price and there really wasn't anything to write home about. I saw the Delta miter saw & stand combo, various water pumps, some water tanks, tile, and rest was just small things. Not near the deals they had at first.

I still saw a TON of stanley items in the tools area with red stickers on them. But all that stuff was full price.

Went to my closest Lowes yesterday, and all the clearance stuff still had the same prices as the last couple weeks. I'd been eyeing a Dewalt concrete drilling vac attachment for 2 weeks. Figured I'd ask an older woman who looked "managerial" walking around. Asked if they'd take offers on the clearance stuff? Said I'd been watching something for 3 weeks. She said sure immediately! Got it for $25 instead of the $80 on the sticker. At the register had to do an override of course, and cashier said she'd been doing them all morning, but they were telling customers they would get a bigger discount the more they bought, to move it all out, ha ha. She happily told me " we start at like $1 off, then tell them it will go up the more they take".
Moral of the story is "ASK"

I agree completely: ASK! Of course, it also depends on who you ask, and this is probably luck of the draw.

On the weekend I had a cart full of clearance items and scouted out an employee who might be able to help me get a better price. I grabbed one that didn't look especially "managerial", but thought it couldn't hurt to ask. I ended up just naming my prices. The employee didn't flinch and just wrote them down on the price tags. I did better than 95% off retail.

I stopped at my Lowe’s this morning and ask the manager if he can do better on the clearance. He was very accommodating. Picked up DeWalt DCK3460c2 from $219 marked $189 he sold me three for $50 a set. That drill, impact driver, led flashlight, two batteries , charger and a bag.

Also picked up the 4 pack or Unitech led fluorescent bulbs for $1.

Duddly,

That wasn’t you at the Waldorf Lowes this afternoon buying all of the clearance items up. The individual had several flat carts full of dirt devil vacuums, a couple Husqvarna snow bowers, rakes, grills, and a Hugh box full of smaller items (cooking stirring sticks, ladle, resin light houses, pillows, etc.).

Employees were adding up all his loot and giving him further discounts. His haul was very impressive and shows that some folks get the breaks and some don’t- I couldn’t get any additional discounts off the stuff I considered purchasing from the store manager. Put my stuff back and went up the road to Clinton store which was much more anxious to sell their remaining stock than the Waldorf store.

Nope - that wasn't me in Waldorf! But I got some deals in Clinton last night. I picked up 6 of the work platforms for $6 each. I am not nearly as active as I used to be but I couldn't resist.

FYI - I picked up tons of work gloves a few weeks back and sent a bunch down to North Carolina for relatives involved in the cleanup down there.

I ordered one of the platforms on line from the Clinton store which I paid $10.** for. Picked it up yesterday afternoon. Talked them into selling me 4 boxes of the Utilitech LED T8 builds - the box of 16 - for $8.00 each.

I’ve slowed down as well as I have gone back to work full-time (retirement was fun while it lasted), so my “shopping time has been reduced significantly. Still find some bargains, but not as many as before and if I can refrain from doing to much shopping in the future, I might just be able to get in and out of my garage which is packed with all my “finds”.

So let me get this straight. If something is marked clearance, you can ask for a better discount (aka almost free)??

My lights were 90% off the retail price after I negotiated an additional 50%+ discount off the clearance price of $17.97. Believe that the store would rather have the floor space available than to store items that are not selling quickly (these lights have been $17.97 for a few months prior to the clearance sale, until corporate put them back to retail on-line just prior to the clearance sale). Again, you have to find a store willing to make a deal, some won’t, but if you can it is a win- win situation for both parties.

I went back to my local store this afternoon. The assistant store manager told me that they have 5 days left to sell clearance. After that, he says they palletize it and ship it off for liquidation, so he was willing to deal.

I got a bunch more stuff for 95% off retail. I'm almost looking forward to this being over so I can stop going to the store to see what else I can score.

For the stuff in the front of the store from their mass-liquidation... It doesn't hurt to ask. This is stuff that they are no longer going to stock and want to get rid of...

That’s what we are *still* saying, yes. Be prepared to get the wrong answer and then ask someone else or at a nearby store.

It's kind of like going on a Tinder date. She offers you a ********. You say, "That's great! ... But how about a ********?"

You might have to settle for the handy, but you might score, too.

Worth a shot.

If you don't see much at your store, check out lawn and garden. Most of the stuff in my stores has been boxed up and is ready to get shipped out to wholesalers, and is sitting out there on carts. I'm sure I could have haggled and bought up a bunch of it, but, like most of you, it's a battle of having garage space now. I bought sheds on clearance and need to get them assembled just to get my car back in the garage!

So my question is will we find you on "American Pickers" anytime soon?

Last week I put 3 of the platforms in my cart online,$11.97 a pop) Clinton store (showed 11 in stock) and checked out. Few hours later get a phone call, "Sorry, we looked, don't have any. DC shows some". No thanks.

Next day, shows 8 in stock. (Hmmmm)
Put 2 in cart, checkpout.
Couple hours later, "we don't have any".

Seems they did....

I have found that there are 2 different types of clearances. A manger told me once there is a corporate clearance and a local store clearance. I was trying to get a better price on a Kobalt 30 gallon compressor over the summer and he stated that the price it is marked was passed down by corporate and he couldn't budge, even though it was the last one and he wanted it gone. Then on several occasions I have asked a manager for a better price on clearance items and have succeeded. It has something to do with a code on the clearance tag. I also have went into the store the day after a sale expired and have asked them to extend the sale price to me on a cordless tool kit and they did, saved me $50. Being respectful and appreciative goes a long way.

Important to note that there are at *LEAST two* different kinds of “clearance” modes going on. Their normal everyday clearance sale stuff is marked with yellow tags claiming ‘clearance’ and the stuff is just the same old ho-hum 5%, to maybe even 20% off. The current event that is generating all this recent activity has not been given a name or special labels or any differentiation but *I* call it the “Mega clearance event” just to separate it in discussion. This is driven by the new CEO who has this history of approaching the inventory in stores likely this by taking a slash and burn approach on non-moving and slow-moving SKU#s. This Mega clearance has been going on for many weeks in stealth mode. It’s earmarked only by having significant price cuts. It doesn’t have anything to do with their ‘everyday’ clearance stuff.
The Mega clearance is winding down. The dates given by the managers are all over the place but rest assured that it will be all over this month.
Probably this week.

Except in hurricane country. They moved all the clearance items into trailers out back to make floor space for generators and window A/C units. It has now transitioned to wheelbarrows and trash cans.

I expect the clearance tables to come back out later this month for these stores in eastern NC.

You are likely right and just like the way it has been so inconsistent store to store, it seems that corporate is providing hit lists of SKUs to kill, but tailored for each store and apparently the local mgrs have a LOT of input on how/when/which get moved and of course local events like hurricanes floods snowstorm will effect the operation.
I keep watching a few specific items that I’ve seen (in this thread) on sale in other places and they’re in stock here but never clearanced. I know the number and brand are supposed to be gone... but not here, yet. Some of these may end up going off to liquidators without ever having been placed on sale. The only constant is the inconsistency.

Thank you for the explanation. So other than a crazy low price listed, it's a crapshoot it sounds like. I saw a couple picked over clearance tables yesterday, but I Wasn't specifically looking for the mega deal clearance.
