Clearly Snap-On has a reputation for making some of the finest hand tools around... But they also have a reputation for having *premium* pricing!

Every now and then when looking through the Snap-on Catalog, I come across some tools that seem to actually be pretty reasonably priced, so I thought it would be cool to have a thread with some Snap-On deals. Not "hey, I found a one-off deal on ebay or craigslist", but direct from snap-on, either with a promotion or a regularly priced item that is just a pretty good deal!

Show us your Snap-On catalog finds that are a good deal!

Here's one I'm eyeing...

Snap-On UT22, Cantilever toolbox, $122 list price

Not a fantastic deal, but really pretty reasonably priced considering the alternatives IMHO. I was riding with somebody who had one of these, it seemed nicely made and super convenient for a grab & go toolbox!

start checking your prices between matco and snap on, you will be surprised about a few prices. even check mac tools, they have gone up on a lot of things.
Matco did have a price checker on their website a while back. it would compare snap on to matco price wise.

I've actually noticed lately; that Snapon is slightly cheaper then Matco on many of their tools that are similar across the two lines.... contrary to popular belief!

They're not tools, but their socks are top notch for $5.

How much value do you put on your time, the wear and tear on your vehicle, the price of fuel, the hassle of dealing with idiots, or standing in line, when your half-assed HF or Craftsman tool decided to die when you need it, and the prospects of its equally half-assed replacement getting the job done, aren't looking to good, either? Another time when the higher initial cost pays for itself again and again.

Art - you nailed it right on the head! For the dealers, it is a business with all the perks and hassles. God bless the tool truck dealers.

I like for my customers to check prices with me, if I cant match it or even beat it, I tell them where to go to get it at the best price. My customers know I am not going to rip them off. Thats what makes a good company even better. When the guy tries his hardest to do what is right and make sure that satisfaction is achieved on every level.

Well said. I try and tell the people at my work that buy the cheaper stuff but they only see the bottom line.

I wouldn't bother they will eventually learn. I did. If they don't then that's their problem.

When I started working at this new dealer last month I u-hauled my Snappy box in and the manager said "Wow, that's a big box. I wonder why some of you guys have these big boxes and some have small boxes. My used car guy has a little box and does it all"
His "box" is a Matco tool cart. All his tools almost are Harbor Freight. I guess it works for him since used car guys don't really fix much. I personally couldn't do it.
I can't even look at his tools I'm such a snob. His area looks like a greasy big mess. He doesn't even lock it or anything. Just ends his day and his tools kinda stay where he dropped them on his cart. LOL

I just bought like 3K on Matco credit and they acted like I was a richer or something. I'm not the type to buy the biggest baddest toolbox that's empty or anything but I buy what I think will make the job easier. My father was a contractor and told me tools are investments in your trade. I look at it like that 3K will make me money over the life of the tools not like I'm losing money buying them.

My S/O dealer said that long before the internet, he'd do research on OEM (where applicable) for S/O and the other brands he was selling, and offer those as well. I wager a lot of guys appreciate that.

I can't speak to mechanics' tools, in particular (though some of the truck stuff I've seen for specialized jobs appears to save a heck of a lot of time), but I've found the right tool or a tool that performs really well, can make the job go easier. On example: I got some specialized punches from McMaster that make it easy to stamp really hard metals. Using the stuff I had before, wasn't so good. In fact, it could be frustrating. I'm sure the stuff I'm using now has paid for itself within a few weeks, literally.

Oh yeah. they are awesome. I was on the truck the other day and they had pink ones for my wife. She wore em yesterday :)

also the anti fatigue mats will save your life.
Literally....really.....Life saving ant-fatigue matc. Do they have an S on them?

And Craftsman sells anti fatige mats as well.
Are they a sinlge mat or those piece together ones?

I also found a lot of stuff that I priced out between the SO and Matco trucks was that the better deal was alsways with Snappy. I also get discounts with Snappy and the Matco guy ***** balls and is tight. Of course that is just my guy and not all Matco guys.

I got a freebie pair of socks yesterday from my dealer. They are good. Probably because the majority of socks come from China and ****. So anything's good after that stuff.
