Hmm... Looks like it is going to come down to one of the big W's - Wera, Wiha, or Witte.

Tempted by the PB Swiss Tools stuff but not sure how the grip would actually feel and won't be finding locally to check out:

These are certainly stylin (23.6 karat gold plated blades?):

This is all very inspiring, making me motivated to replace my mess of mixed up and mismatched screwdrivers, but I thought it worth mentioning a recent experience.

I had a significant project involving #12 wood screws requiring driving into wood studs using a #3 phillips. Even though the pilot holes were made using a bit 1/32 larger than recommended for the screw size, about 10% of the 100 screws broke off while being installed.

The screws were new old stock and the supplier agreed with my guess that they were probably domestic US materials because they were on his shelf so long. That would seem to imply better than average screws.

What I am saying is that I am coming to the impression that the tools (screwdrivers in this case) probably far outclass the fasteners now.

Hi,

Any advise out there about using a good quality screwdriver that is very comfortable to hold and will take the abuse of solvents; I have arthritis in both hands, I am willing to try any brand that anyone can recommend.

Thanks Woody.

Have 2 sets. Love the handles, the engagement, and the quality.

Dont know if Chadstoolbox.com is still doing it- but you can save quite a bit using code testthebest to save like 10% on Wera/

Are the handles a soft or hard compound?
Do they clean up well?

Is that code for Chadstoolbox ?

I like the Snap-on's and Wera's. The shape of the Wera handle is really starting to outshine the Snap-on's. I do use Klein insulated at work, and I have an older set. There newer regular drivers just don't seem as durable. Klein handles seem to make my hands cramp up more than the others.

Dual compound the green is softer, yes they clean up nicely. The soft material collects a little grime, but if your picky about that it cleans up well with a shot of light degreaser like window cleaner.

Yeah last I knew that code was for 15% WERA at chads

I would guess the Snap-on Instinct or the Witte MaxPro would be best for arthritis in the hands because of the large size. I like the MaxPro and the Wera but I like the Wiha better and the Snap-on Instinct the best. I think on something like a screwdriver it is just best to stop screwing around and buy the Snap-on's as they are the easiest to warranty (for me anyway) and they really do feel great in your hands. You can apply tremendous torque with that Instinct handle. I have the older hard handle too, but I don't see the love it gets. Everyone I let try out my collection of screwdrivers always selects the Snap-on Instincts.

Actually, my best screwdriver and probably best for arthritic hands is the Snappy 5 position ratcheting driver. If Snappy is too much, I like the Wiha second best. I have the ones made in Germany and the tips are hard as hell. I must have gotten old stock from Amazon seller small parts because the Wiha website shows only the Extra Heavy Duty Striking drivers as German made. I have those too but they are too heavy at the end. The Heavy Duty ones are the ones to get.

:bounce:I think they are cheating and only making the handles in Germany(assuming it still says germany on the handle somewhere). Its their low end line of drivers, how can they make some things much cheaper out of the same factory?

I just bought a set of PB Swiss w/Swiss Grips and a bunch of singles. These are supurb screwdrivers. It's hard to explain but they just feel fight and I love using them.

I wouldn't have known about them if it weren't for the forum!

I just wish they would market more extensive sets but at least Amazon seems to stock most of the singles along with their basic sets.
