I just bought a propane modine hot dawg and want to know if anybody is using a WiFi thermostat on one. What brand and model? Any input would be great, thanks.

As far as brand, I like echobee stuff... I setup for friend's home, I have Honeywell since I only used the basic functions... basic 4 events, 7 day programming....

I've got an Emerson Sensi for our house. Just a basic thermostat that you can also control from you phone.

Thanks for the replies, the directions aren’t too clear and I’m not sure if it has a C wire or not. I was hoping somebody had one and could tell me which thermostat they were using. I haven’t installed it yet and was looking to have everything here before tackling the project.

I think it is the case where you have to check your model number and the installation manual. I don't think that manufacture only makes one model of the propane heater. If in doubt you can always call them... Usually all manufactures are great at pre-sale questions, after sales is a different beast.

I like Nest thermostats because I get them for free when I replace a neighbor's with an Ecobee. My Nest works fine, no issues other than it won't link to my Alexa....

Cant go wrong with anything Honeywell. Ive heard good things about Ecobee as well. I install Honeywell exclusively. Stay away from Nest. Its garbage.

?? Honeywell isn’t what it used to be.the company I work for has been trying to get away from them as much as they can. Although they have a corner of the market that you can’t avoid.

Really, nothing is what it used to be from any company. Not saying Honeywell is the only option. Just saying they're the best in my opinion. There are other good manufacturers out there I would recommend. Emerson, Ecobee,White Rodgers etc. Nest thermostats are terribly engineered and very problematic. That's the only on I would steer clear against.

Thanks again for the replies, have any of you used these with a modine hotdawg? I was told they can be picky. I know it’s basically just a switch but I figured I would ask anyway.

I use the Lux one with my Beacon morris heater just fine. Similar to the hot dog. I chose this one because I can adjust the temperature swing +-2 degrees to keep it from short cycling and have it not running as much. Most of the others you have no control of this. It works really well for me. It also appears to be a lot cheaper too at $97 right now on amazon.

Just what I need. If the gas company needs money, they can hack into my WiFi thermostat and turn up the heat.

What are you worrying about? Big companies computer systems are safe, so, your t-stat is just fine. Ignore Wells Fargo and Equifax! :lol_hitti

Does anyone know the minimum working temperature on this particular LUX t-stat or any other wi-fi thermostats listed in this thread? My home one is 45*, I would prefer one capable of going lower for the garage. Couldn't find this info for the LUX.

Found my answer in an amazon question thing: 45*

I think I'm going to use a cheap manual low temp t-stat at least temporarily to get things started...

LUX one looks like a good option for others.
