All this work and she says "it's only a garage!"

I purchased a new home with a shop and a garage. I worked for days rehabbing the 817 sq ft shop (cleaning/painting and new flooring) and was excited to show it off. I take my fiancé out to show her and am waiting on her to say something like "Wow" or "Nice" or something for that matter. Nothing... I finally ask her and she is like "it's ok, it's just a garage, not sure why you are spending so much money on it!"

What a disappointment. I was hoping for some recognition but got "eh!"

Anyone else experience this?

Run man, run like the wind!!

My wife of 30yrs could give a flying f about my shops or tools. But at least she's a damn good liar and acts excited for me...

I'm good with that :)

When you buy her a engagement ring, make sure it's a small one and a simple wedding band. When she clamors about it, just say. . . . . "it's only a ring"

Remember, that door swings both ways. Next time she pridefully shows you something she's been putting time & work into, just give her the same "eh". :bounce:

LOL that is because you didn't reserve a spot for her plushy toys...No big deal, most women don't find garages exciting... OTOH... if she is bingeing on Murder She Wrote , or How to get away with Murder.... HEHEHEHE then run..................... I forgot what was on the news recently....

Oh Right...

This is really bad advice!!!!

LOL I think he was being sarcastic.... you can buy her the small engagement to your budget, that you can afford, but if you say that "It's only a Ring".... LOL you'll be in the dog house the rest of your married life.....

She doesn't get it.....get rid of her and tell her it's not all about you.

Ah my friend, you're not going to win so stop trying. When she is excited about something, learn to fake it and be excited with her! And don't expect her ever to get excited about the garage or the cars...unless she finds out what they cost! And that's for another thread...

But be happy that you have your escape and try to keep it yours! My garage is the only place that I call mine. Between my wife and kids "Don't leave your stuff in MY garage!"

Well she doesn't need to care about the garage as much as you do. As long as she cares about your being happy owning a neat garage, she's a keeper.

Treat her the way you want to be treated and hopefully it will all work out. My wife does not go down in the basement garage/workshop area and we both are happy. She also is not involved in the ongoing finishing of my barn but she knows it is important to me. She treats me the same as I treat her. I tell her I am happy for her about the things she values and she does the same. 43 years and it is still working for us.

Give it time. I put a ton of effort into fixing up an old Camaro, and was excited to show my wife. Her response was exactly like your wife's "it's just an old Camaro".

A few days later she took it for a drive and asked nonstop to drive it. Got a speeding ticket the first time she drove it. I had to hide the keys from her.

This is the kind of reaction you are going to get about things you are proud of until you get tired of her **** someday and trade her for someone that actually cares about your feelings. I know, this is probably suppose to be a somewhat humorous thread, but my wife, whom I've been married to for 36 years would never say anything like that or I of her horse hobby. Just too many good women out there to settle for "that kind of woman". Harsh words you may say now, but tell me I was wrong in a few years.

I have more questions than answers.
Re: All this work and she say's "it's only a garage!"

I was married to one of those. Some people don't want their significant other to be involved in their hobbies while others want to share with each other. Which are you?

For me if we can't support each other's interest I have no interest.

I sure enjoy the single life!

Haha- I’m not trading her in. She knows the garage is my space, she’s just not that enthused. It’s understandable as there’s things she likes that I’m not into. She’ll come around, maybe?? I’ve been covered up handling hurricane response for work- I’ll post some pics of the shop later.

Hang one of those *** swings right in the middle of the garage with a plush white rug underneath it and candles all around! If THAT don't get her excited.... THEN TRADE HER IN!!

Of course this is all in great fun! LOL!!!

To the OP: If you think we’re joking? A LOT of us are not.

If you think her attitude about something that is important to you is a little thing? You’re right - now. In 20-30 years the small things only become HUGE. You don’ want to start this way. You’ll of course ignore all of our advice and we’ll hear from you later on a marriage problem/divorce thread.

Re: All this work and she say's "it's only a garage!"

OP...you gotta reverse the situation...

When I built my 32x56 shop/garage...wifey said...how did you spend 300 k on that...

My response, “hon...that is what it takes...it is only a garage”. That was the end of it.

She does not ask questions like that any more...38 years...

Was I being sarcastic ? I have no issue with buying a ring that fits your budget and what you can afford, that is very good advice, no, it's great advice. Buy them a decent ring and put the extra cash towards a house.

Haha, thats what she said, except for the looks good part...

I can't believe that's not even a little bit alarming to you. You put in a lot of work, and did a nice job improving on your property. I can't imagine lack of respect for your effort getting better later. Sensitive topic for so many guys on here that were financially and emotional destroyed, that's why you are getting mixed reactions.
