Just after noon today, the following ad appeared on the local kijiji...

set of wrench snapon like new

SOWrenchScore.jpg

I emailed the seller about 12 minutes after the ad was posted and, sure enough, received a call back 10 minutes later.

Now Newmarket is a 45-60 minute drive from me, so I asked the fellow if I could have my friend collect the tools on my behalf. I told him I'd call my buddy & if he couldn't come, I'd drive up myself.

Spoke to my friend and he said he could collect them at 5pm, after his son's hockey game.

I spoke to the seller again and told him my "agent" would be at his house at 5pm and if he should prove unable to make it for any reason, I assured him I would collect them myself. Although the seller said he had had other inquiries now (no kidding!) he would hold them for me!

.

.

Just got a call from my friend & the set is now safely in his possession! :bounce:

That set's C$306+ here in Canada.

It has been a good day!

Well, after some spirited discussion.......we have decided that we are insanely jealous of you  and we took a vote on your "****" status.

Congrats, newly elected "Grand Master of ****" for the deal of the week! Nice haul!

That deal is awesome!

Must be a bit less awesome than whatever deal the guy you bought them from got...otherwise he'd not be selling them that cheaply!

:dunno: i check that site 10 times a day don't know how I missed it. You ****.

Well, you only had 11 minutes between when the ad appeared & I replied and only a total of ~35 minutes to have seen it at all before it was removed by the Seller. Makes you wonder how many of the very best deals are up & gone before even the most frequent craigslist/kijiji browser has a chance!

Said he was selling them for his friend; everything else he had listed was audio-related, so he may not have been fully up-to-speed on the true value...

Well, what is interesting to me is hypothesizing at what point in the wrenches' lives the concept of their value was lost to their owners. Someone paid out the *** for them at some point, and now they are in the hands of a guy that thinks $30 is a good price to sell them to you for.:headscrat Even old grammas knows the Snap On name, it seems.

Moose that is great, but I'm still waiting for you to deposit that $24million in my account that you said was left over from that contract.

Hallo my friend..

In order to make the transfer, please can you send a $16,500 admin fee to my bank account. The account number is: 77 79 79 83 69

We are also waiting for confirmation from your bank, once i have that i will complete the transaction. ;)

Yours sincerely,

Yeah, your guess is as good as mine...

Maybe the Seller's "friend" is the technologically-challenged (or just plain lazy) widow of the original owner. Might explain why she wouldn't necessarily know the value of the tools and since she didn't know how to post them to kijiji herself just wanted to get rid of them for what she sees wrench sets sell for in the weekly Canadian Tire flyer... :headscrat

Whatever the reason, a very nice deal for me!

I likely won't see the set in person until Feb. 20 when my buddy & I will be attending the birthday party of a mutual friend.

I hope these are vintage "Made in Canada" wrenches; that will be a pleasant reminder of when SO produced hard-line tools here...

Well, I finally collected these from my friend a few weeks ago.

Man, these things are absolutely pristine! I don't believe most of them have even seen a nut! Even the tool roll is like new...

My only (very slight) disappointment is that they aren't "Made in Canada" models. :( Oh well; I'll keep 'em anyway!

So, this is a OEX709 set. Can anyone tell me a date based on the tool roll that is marked C-93D?
