Werner "Televator" Telescopic attic ladder question

So I picked one of these up cheap for my garage attic and it seams sturdy enough. I mounted it in the attic opening, adjusted it for height opened and extended it to the floor with no issues. Now for the life of me I can't figure how to retract it to the closed position. It was used so I don't have the user guide.

It should just push up but I'm guessing it doesn't. If you push it up, does it move at all? Can you tell where the restriction/block is?

I'm sure one of these vids should answer your question. But blindly taking a stab at it would think there's a lock on a hinge point and maybe a cam lock at the ceiling hinge.

I spray the "ways" on mine every so often with silicone spray. You just push the ladder up and it re-stacks as it goes up. I use the pole to finish the stack and swing the ladder up, then to close the door.

If its like mine there are pins on the outside of the rails that lock it in position. They are spring loaded. One side will lock in the open position and the other side can just be held while collapsing the section. Do them one at a time and then use the included rod to push the whole assembly back up into the attic.

I think mine is the AA1510

This is how my old one worked. Spring-laded Pins to lock it into place.

It was always a pain to release them.

Plus, what the hell do I do with the damn pole hook? I'd toss it in a closet, then I could never find it when I needed it.

I've got a Televator in my master bedroom closet. Retracting it to the closed position is difficult at times which is probably the reason Werner replaced the Televator with this model which has a simpler design.

This type of ladder is made for compact spaces such as closets. Do you have room in your garage for a regular pull-down ladder? If you do, sell or donate the Televator and buy a sturdier ladder. I think you'll like it better. I have an inexpensive Louisville S224P in my garage. It's much better than the Televator.

I had the same thing happen just this morning. The company web site had no information regarding the issue and so, was no help at all. I tried to release the catches manually, which did NOT work. What did work was spraying WD40 into the catches, or releases, at the side bars and the top of the rungs, let it set, and then, when I pushed the ladder worked fine, went right back up, no problem!
