So let me get this straight. They still make these Black Hard Handles that everyone says are the holy grail of screw drivers? :headscrat

I own a few and they are nice. The set I bought in the 90's was this set but with stubbies instead of the smaller ones shown below. Some have wandered off.

Why are they not sold with Snap-on on the handles, is Williams not a wholly owned subsidiary of Snap-on?

Why? $50 seems reasonable for the 8 peice set? The only place I have ever seen them mentioned here is in this thread and no one even reacted to it, am I missing something? http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19126

I find Alex71s measurements of the two types of these drivers odd. Why would SO create a new mold for an old style of screwdriver that they stopped selling themselves and which they wont bring back even though people love the freakin' things?

I don't know for sure what happened to make the Williams screwdrivers bigger but there is always the chance that Williams bought worn out molds from Snappy and "freshened them up". It would be way cheaper and easier to re-cut an old mold than to start from scratch. If I was a betting man that is what I would put my money on.

Snap-on had an advertisement, years ago, when the Instincts were introduced.

"Whoever says you cannot reinvent the wheel, does not work for this company"

Well, that is a big mistake right there, in my book. Fix something that does not need fixing, just because.:headscrat The saying should have said "We like to shoot ourselves in the foot, just because we like the pain."LOL

odd or not, the numbers are the numbers.

Not sure how you took my remark, but it was not casting doubt on your measurements. It was using your measurements as valid to then ask WTF is going on with these Williams drivers and their connection to the ones SO refuses to make anymore.

they still make the handles if you search for hard handle numbers you will get the number, find a dealer and order some. but you will have to get the blades seperate as well at the moment.

they look the same to me. the older ones were well used and might be different size from tons of use. but they look like the new handles I have on the truck.
