I was quite surprised today when I broke my snap on 3/8 long ratchet. It broke as I was tightening some brake caliper bolts. I figured you guys might like to see this. I bought this ratchet new off the truck about 4 years ago and used it just about everyday I was at work since then. I guess metal fatigue finally got it.

haha, they're a som' *****. ESP with that super duper yellow threadlock and if they haven't been broken loose before hand. I can't tell you how many torx brands I've 'tested' doing this particular job. So rediculous!

^^^werd. Aren't they using the same asian ratcheting mechanism that's in the blue point ratcheting comb. wrenches??? Or is ths incorrect. Sorry if it is, I haven't asked our dealer for the true scoop yet. I'm noit sure if he'd tell the truth anyhow though, unfortunately

I thought someone already did that on here and other than the simple ratchet vs. wrench form, the pawls and hardware were identical almost?

the blue point ratchet wrench? may look similar but they are not the same.

I had to remove the caliper bolts from my 2004 suburban, it took at 24inch breaker bar to get them out. they have not been removed since the factory. ( hub had to be replaced) the 3/8 ratchet was not long enough to get the job done.

I know SO lists the COO as USA but I too am skeptical as one would think they would want USA on the ratchet as a selling point. I'm sure the replacement will be a good ratchet as was this one. I was tightening the brake caliper bolts on a BMW 2002.

Oh damn! i love it every minuite while i use it.. i like soft grip handle but i still prefer the hard handle... Even i did tried to break loose the lug nut- it work fine without bind it... i am glad that i bought it...

i started to see some of bolts have too much threadlocker on bolt and cause it problem as either torch it or broke it off... it is ****!!

All tools break and wear out regardless of whose name is stamped on it. As the writer said he used the ratchet daily for four years before it failed. You can always armchair debate which brand would last longer or which brand would fail the fastest under the same circumstances. The bottom line is the owner definitely got his money's worth out of the ratchet and will get a warranty replacement.

The locking one flexes freely if you pull the release button down and lock it to the right side.

Snap on may look at it as abuse,thinking you might have put a pipe on it. Not saying you did it just looks that way.Hopefully they'll replace it. Unless you've got a dealer that you spend alot of money with.

I have a very similar Snap On and I like the ability to lock it in place. I also have a New Britain flex that just has a ball and indents. I prefer the head to not flop around but thats just my opinion.

All the Snap-on ratchets are made at the Tennessee facility. I would love to offer proof of that via e-mails from Snap-on corporate, but my e-mail storage file is on the broken hard drive.

Johnson Citty, Tennessee plant closed down around the same time Snap on stopped putting USA on the ratchets. They also made all of the ratcheting screwdrivers there. I heard Gearwrench now makes them under snap on's specs.

I don't own a so flex, but I wouldn't use any flex on something real tight maybe 35 - 40 lb/ft max. IMO those ratchets are. For tight clearance only. I wouldn't use one as a replacement for my regular ratchets or breaker bar.
