I misremembered mine, which have a more sophisticated hammer. Whitcher, Union Made, No. 2. Whoever made yours, DTM, you can be sure they're antique! :)

For those who haven't yet had enough of the Jerry Can subject, and you're still looking for that perfect Christmas gift for Uncle Buck (or yourself!), I present "The Jerry Can Mini-Bar"!

No affiliation, yada yada yada, but I can't steal this guy's ingenious awesomeness and not share the link to his Rogers, Minnesota etsy store, at least! Link here.

It's too bad good ideas like this or so easy to copy. I know I am thinking of making one right now! :)

Yes, but the real burning question is 5 gallons or 20 liters?

I think our store are total opposites on inventory and pricing. Haha

quest

This ReStore is really hit or miss when it comes to tools, and pricing varies wildly. After three or four consecutive visits ending in disgust at the pricing or frustration at the lack of anything good, it seems I go back "one more time" and score something really good. It's a real love/hate relationship. I'm finding my odds are better if I go on a Monday.

Call me paranoid from working in the security field for too long, but a guy walking through an airport or a train station with a jerry can just might make me a tad nervous!

The comedian Carrot Top used to do a bit about using a hard shell chainsaw case as his carry-on bag when he flew. :lol_hitti

Hit the ReStore on Friday at lunch and got 20 cans of primer plus 4 cans of God awful chalk paint because I had to buy the whole box. Priced at $24, but it was 60% off, so 40 cents a can.

Drat yer hide! I just got through paying 12X your price for that very Rust-o SE
primer at HD -- plus 8 miles worth of gas.

Oh, yeah, you ****!

DTM, I think that eye was for screwing into wood after a pilot hole was drilled no real need for a point like a lag if its pre-drilled.

Lugz, I LOVE the Jerrycan bar! and I don't even drink!]

hat surface plate was a certifiable STEAL of a deal! Suckage well deserved!

Know anybody that has the equipment to check the plate's accuracy?

Nice find. A surface plate is on my list.

I was going to see if I could rig something - going through some of my stuff to see what type of jigs I have that I could use to hold a runout gauge. But i really have no idea what I am doing.

I did email support at the company that made it to see if I could find what specs it was originally.

Why would you ruin good liquor with frozen water ?
Hahahahaha. My cue for quick story. With my wife and daughters away abroad for Thanksgiving, I took my sons to my brother's house for Thanksgiving. It was chock full of family and we're all milling around the kitchen peeling potatoes, getting toasted, and telling stories when my nephew arrives with a bunch of stuff including a bottle of some bourbon, which he makes the mistake of setting down on the counter. "Shots!" I immediately declare, and my sister-in-law breaks out the glasses. There are so many people I am pouring into paper cups at the end. One round and the bottle is 3/4ths gone. A little later in the day my nephew somewhat sheepishly mentions that it was a $100 bottle of special reserve sipping bourbon. Oops!

Could you use a straight edge metal ruler and a feeler gage? Is that not precise enough for that block? I dont have much experience with those but I know I want one! Great score!

Eclectic small haul from my flea market today that prompted another funny story.

First things first, the haul:

attachment.php

- The midget bits are Walden-Worcester. They will go directly into a partial WWII set I have with a 3118 spinner and a 3117 hinge handle in a nice 41-W-2615 marked case just waiting for some sockets!

- The half-moon wrench is a Herbrand with a wartime AISI steel composition number on it that will go immediately into my half-moon wrench collection drawer.

- The huge Ell handle is a Plomb 5686 3/4-inch drive.

The piece de resistance (and funny story prompter) is that old indestructible canvas bin with the "WARP ROOM #77" stenciled on it! It has a wooden skid bottom and a steel frame. I will be using it for tools I haven't stored somewhere permanently yet. It is so well-greased and -oiled that I may not have to apply any WD-40 to the tools I throw in there.

THE FUNNY STORY: I am leaving the flea market with the bin when two kids in their 20's looking all post-apocalyptic/emo/steam punkish point to it laughing, but with interest, not derisively. So I stopped and said something along the lines of not meaning to insult them, but they don't look like the type of people who would have any interest in an old textile mill bin, so I was curious why there were pointing to it. They explained. From what I could retain, a "WARP ROOM" is apparently a room or a series of rooms in a popular video/computer game where you can jump to another zone or time frame. According to them, the rooms are hidden and hard to find. I told them that this WARP ROOM was a room in a textile factory where big warping machines would be doing the first step in making big rolls of textiles that would get sent to factories to make things like the clothes they were wearing, circa early 1900's, and that the bins were not easy to find, either.

We all had a big laugh at the irony and wished each other a good day. :)

Well, I found me a vise (how'd I do?).

I got the vise and clamps for $50.

The vise is missing the front ring thingy and has a couple nicks on the corner of the jaws. The vise market in these parts is not good so I am happy to find this. Morgan Chicago 145.

****. And here I thought it was a money maker.

Okay, I will put it aside. I think I'm like China (trade surplus) with you right now anyway.

It's less expensive to be late, but not as much fun...

Outlaw, I'm with you on Mr. Sulu. I though Lugz was going to bump into some Trekkies as he left the flea :)

Lug: did you figure out how to make that deal in Dallas? it's one of my favorite airports and it's my stop if I'm flying across country so if you need an excuse to fly to the west coast a stop in Dallas might just get your stuff. or hope you found somebody or convinced the seller to ship it to you.

ALL: I'm always looking for more vintage metal or wood storage especially these old flat files and today I almost passed on getting these cause they were in downtown Seattle. that and i had to use a 100+ year old freight elevator, but i got them home and they are set up now.

they won't hold many vises or clamps, but they will hold a lot of MY STUFF.

cheers

Done. Sold. Mine! Seller didn't do PayPal, but a helpful GJ'er does and is picking it up and shipping it to me toot sweet. I like DFW. It's my change flight airport from Tucson (via Phoenix) to Newark when I fly AA out to Ft Huachuca, but I won't be making that trip until January.

Username and I both have one of the Gerry can toolboxes. I haven't checked the metal gauge yet but the thing is pretty heavy.
I didn't know that! Did you guys find them at a flea market/estate sale or pay full price?

Super jealous. Been looking for a set for a while now. Do you mind me asking what you paid for them? They are the ultimate in ratchet storing technology.

Looking for the following Plomb Pebbles Wrenches 3060, 3061, 3070

Olson: well there wasn't any cash exchange, but i did have to rent a uhaul, drive 30 miles, spend 2 hours hauling them up and down a 100+ year old elevator that I had my doubts I wouldn't die in, but i'm happy.

i think I have 12 of these 5 drawer cabinets and a 10 drawer one that is 60x24 that I picked up earlier this year.

good luck in your search cause between these flat files, my Lyon bins, my rotobins and these old file cabinets I probably don't need much else to store my stuff.

Lug: I won't admit to owning 700 ratchets, but I have more than a few tools too.

I know your man cave isn't able to take in some of these flat files, but i bet one drawer could hold 100 or more ratchets. i had 50 4-6 inch clamps in one drawer and it rolls in and out almost like it's empty on the old rollers.

Because it’s it’s pretending to be a wrench board, but really just a bunch of random brands hung on bent nails? Or am I missing a detail?
That DBE on the right looks like a Bonney...
That “Fix n Save” brand...I’ve seen it before...think maybe I’ve got a pliers or screwdriver from a stuffed toolbox purchase, somewhere.
Also, love the “Warp Room” story!
