It is in the build quality and the matching between the parts. Yost is a good brand with different levels of quality that is reflected in the price.

The high end (red color) is forged from ductile iron (130,000 PSI strength) and not from cast iron. It is stronger and less prone to cracks. There are adjustment screws to control the level of "play" and the lead screw/nut seems to be better. They also have special jaws to hold pipes and the jaws are replaceable.

I have the following 3 metal working vises from Yost and they are really good and a great value in my experience/opinion:

We should probably just start whining in the anti-whining alternative to the other thread, and demanding the few posters that contribute 90% of the deals to do things a different way. I'm sure that'll force them to do a better job in exchange for what we pay them.

Or... we could enjoy the free work they do and be thankful the last round of childish whining that created this thread didn't run the deal posters completely off.

"ADI" is the material Yost uses, the actual vice on sale is model #FSV-6. I have this vice and it is very nice. Well worth the sale price.

This is not what the yost site says.

The fsv-6 is forged and then welded the adi-6 is a single cast that is 45% stronger than the fsv-6 according to the yost site. The adi has a 130,000 psi the fsv is 90,000 psi tensile strength.

It seems that the adi versions replaced the fsv versions apparently Amazon still has stock of the 4,5,6 versions of the fsv but are sold out of ye fsv-7.
