Thread subscription, but not through e-mail?

I underestimated how active this place is! Much as I would love to make the "new posts" tool my browser bookmark, I find that there are just too many threads being updated all the time for me to keep up with. I'd be here all day...

While I'm trying to figure out how to adapt my browsing habits to focus on what part of the forum to watch, I need a good way to keep track of threads that I've posted in so that I don't miss out on any responses to my postings. It's way to easy for those threads to get buried by more recently updated threads.

I see the thread subscription tool, but it appears to only send those notifications through e-mail. I don't want to do that. Is there some other way to keep track of discussions that I've started/participated in, without having to check my e-mail? Something on-site? I don't know about vBulletin, but I know some other forums have built-in notifications to let you know if somebody quoted you or replied to one of your threads. Do we have (or can we get) something like that here?

In the android app there is a bell icon that puts red dots next to new posts in threads your active in. It works every when it wants to. There is also participated tab that is useful when the notification tab takes the week off. I do not get email notifications so check your control panel and see if you have it. Turned on.

LOL it's tempting, for sure.

I'm going to try out the "no e-mail notification" setting and link to my subscriptions page as my browser's GJ bookmark.

That's how I have mine setup. The problem is the hundreds of other threads I read on here.. The new post button always costs me hours..lol

What I do is log in and go to quick links to see all posts in the last 24 hours. Glance through them and read any that draw my attention and also see the marked ones that I have posted in. I also at times click on my user name and statistics to see all my posts. From there open any I'm interested to see any comments in.

I just tried clicking on that "today's posts" link, and it brought up 15 pages of results (363 threads). I never had any intention of reading every single one, but that's still a lot to sort through and pick out threads of interest. Man, this place is really hopping! I don't think I've ever been on such an active forum.

Click on the user cp button, it will only show subscribed threads with new posts. If there are no new posts since the last time you opened that thread, it will not show the thread.

I have a similar question:

How do you jump to unread posts in threads that you've subscribed to? I love the huge threads and get drawn into them, and I want to read them from the beginning... but I often forget where I finished off one evening. When I go back to continue reading, it takes me a while to figure out where I left off (especially if it's been a few days.) In other forums I frequent, there's just a button to "Jump to first unread post" in each thread, but I can't find that here.

Easy. Anything you respond to will be in your profile under statistics, view all your posts. You will see all threads you have responded to, and a new post in any of them will have a check mark by the thread title. That is the way I keep up with it.

That only works if you're up to date on the thread already. I'm fairly new, and I find myself reading 100+ page threads. When I'm on page 37, even if I respond that will only bring me to the current page. I have trouble remembering I'm on page 37 of this thread, and 22 of that one, and 15 of the other one over there...

I save a link in my favorites and update it every time I read some until I'm done. Took me over a month to read through Thomas' thread.

I'm sure there's an easier way, but you could PM yourself. The post # is actually a link if you right click the post # then click on ''copy link location'' then paste it in your PM to your self.

It's a bit Rube Goldberg-ish but it'll work..lol
