I was looking at the new harbor freight 56" top and bottom box this weekend and noticed the new bottom box has a different design for the plastic locking tabs on the right side of the drawers. They are a different shape and are also held in with 2 Phillip's screws instead of rivets like the old ones. This makes me wonder if harbor freight will offer them as a replacement part now. Also, in addition to the locking tabs, the drawers also were held closed with detents. This may give the option of removing the locking tabs all together if the detents prove to be "tight" enough.

The top box they had on display was just like previous versions. No detents, and old style locking tabs. It may have been an old model for all I know. Does anyone know if they make a new upper with detents and the new style locking tabs?

Is more differences than that, drawers pull out further and panels formed bit different too.
They come from different factories (have 2 or more part number variations for each model/color)
I think they only have one factory version of the red top chest but the black has 2 factory versions, i'm guessing the part number ending in odd number will be factory doing stronger looking plastic latch retained with screws but this assumption needs checking with display models .
They always done replacements just can take few calls get good staff deal with it,
now they got 2 types more chance of error on which ones get as spares !
