Our new to us home had gas logs installed later on by the previous owner.

Question. Is there a way to hook up a propane tank instead of using a service to provide tanks and fees? We wouldn't be using them enough to justify using a service and we have plenty of propane tanks lying around.

This is what was left behind. Looks like a compression ring is missing. This fitting does not fit the propane tank and would like to find one that would.

That is CSST pipe, and appears to be a CSST fitting missing parts. Unfortunately, the CSST fitting is not generic, and MUST match the manufacturer of the pipe (there is no interchangeability allowed for in the standard).

CSST shall not be installed outdoors and shall not be run
underground unless installed in a sleeve or conduit.

Depends on the size of the tank and the gas consumption of the appliance. Vapor rate sometimes limits the use of small tanks.

I believe its adjustable so rates of consumption would vary. But, I have access to a 100lb tank as well.

I watched that video recently.
Looks like I'll have to buy a new gas line set up and hope it would come with all the necessary hardware and fittings. If its even available.

There is about 5' of hose running outside. There is no sleeve other than the yellow. Is there a sleeve I need to cover the line with?

CSST can be used "on" exterior surfaces- as long as it's properly supported. It can not be used "thru" a wall- that has to be iron.

And it certainly can't be buried.

Hmm, this can pose a problem as the installer has run the CSST through an exterior wall.

Forgot all about this.
I am replacing the CSST with copper line and having the gas man replumb and put all new fittings on for me. Not that I'll need it any time soon haha.
