Recently bought my first house and wanted to share the progress of my garage remodel. Here is a pic of what the garage looked like when we first got the house.

My plans are to insulate, re-wall with OSB, install AC, floor with RaceDeck (that I just purchased on black Friday ;) )

So to begin with I started removing all the crappy wallboard that the previous owner put up and removing the big wooden cabinet from the wall.

had the OSB and insulation delivered from Lowes. I ordered 20 rolls but they delivered 29 :) sssshhhh

Looking good. When I bought my home that brick wallboard was actually lining the kitchen and dining room.

Have any plans to add additional outlets prior to installing the insulation or osb?

2nd the idea to run wire and boxes now. It's low cost and so nice to have options after the walls are sealed up. Are you also insulating/sheeting the ceiling?

Actually yes, I added an extra gang to each outlet. So I now have 4 outlets at each point. I think that will be enough for how I use my garage, mainly car maintenance and a little bit of detailing

Will be doing the ceiling eventually, still undecided on material for the ceiling. I'm torn between Sheetrock or metal siding. I've seen a few other garages and shops on here with the metal siding and it looks really good.

So in my haste to get things ready for the garage when I ordered the insulation I assumed that my studs were 16" centers. When I came to put up the insulation I found out that my studs are actually all over the place. Most common spacing is 18.5" centers. I decided to go ahead with the insulation that I bought and cut smaller strips to fill the gaps

I've done plenty of drywall on ceilings and it's not fun. Drywall lift or a buddy and a deadman. Then the taping/mudding/painting part. The white metal that you see on other builds here has multiple advantages (prefinished glossy white, lighter weight, fastest to complete, etc.). That would be my choice.

The metal would definitely be my first choice, however, drywall is readily available and I'm not sure where to purchase the metal from. I found one website but have zero experience with them.

There are other threads about it but Menards, Home Depot, Lowes all sell it. There appear to be 2 thicknesses with a related price difference.

Around my area you could only get metal panels from menard's or metal roofing suppliers, which there were several here in Ohio but none really close to my area save for menard's.

I would add at least one 220v 40 or 50amp circuit before you button it up. Even if you think you'll never need it, I'd still do it. It's one of the most common gripes I read from people here and elsewhere about what they should have done.

Fairly sure the metal roof panels is what others are using. This is the 29 guage version, 3' x 8 ':
https://www.lowes.com/pd/Metal-Sales-Classic-Rib-3-ft-x-8-ft-Ribbed-Steel-Roof-Panel/1000469423

Also available in 12 foot length. If necessary, it can be ordered in longer lengths if necessary but for a normal application, those lengths should work.

I stand corrected, I just searched Lowe's again and see why I missed missed them. But when I bought mine I was already buying stuff from HD and Menards so I didn't put much effort into searching Lowes. I will say Menard's has a good selection of panels, some of them are pretty cool looking.

The only problem I have there is the panel is already full. I'd need to switch out the panel which is on the to-do list but just not in the budget right now. I could always run conduit and position the 220 externally. I'm planning on using deck screws to put up the OSB so I was thinking I could just take a panel down if needs be.

I got the wall insulation finished off, which took twice as long as I had anticipated. Having to cut and fill the gaps was a pain :(
I put up my new lights temporarily while I finish the wall installation. Time to clear out the garage, get rid of the **** and start on the walls within the next week or two.

Managed to get a little more work done on the garage at the weekend. I got the bottom half of the wall up. I'm gonna need an extra set of hands to get the top half up. Hoping to do that this weekend. There were no nailers in the corners so I had to improvise using some 2x2 furring. It worked out pretty well :)

Great work so far. Before you button up the top half, run some speaker wires for your garage stereo, I wish I had.

Thanks! Well, I'm a bit of a tech junkie and I am planning to add some smart speakers and other tech when funds permit

You could rip the wallboard into smaller pieces and place it in your regular trash bin. May take a few weeks of pickup to get rid of it but not a big effort.

Yeah, guess I'll have to. It's a pain but I guess it'll get rid of it eventually...

Got to do a little more over the holidays. I managed to get the walls primed and painted. Primed with 2x coats of oil based kilz and painted with one coat of latex. I made a start with the flooring, its going to take a while to get the floor finished. I've had to break apart every tile just about to get the pattern I want...

I got the floor laid down over the holidays. It's turned out pretty well :)
We're moving into the house over the next week, got it finished just in time to fill it. Next on the agenda will be organization, cabinets, shelving and decor (the fun bit).
