The 1914 catalog shows the Champion vises ranging from 1-1/2” to 3” jaws in clamp-on style, and 2” to 3” jaws with swivel bases. (I mistyped my 2” in earlier post - it’s a No.114, not “No.14.”)
No.112 is listed at 1-1/2”, No.113 is 1-3/4”; is there a punched number on the top of the anvil portion? The three catalogs I’ve seen do not list a 1-5/8” size, though I don’t doubt that could be the actual dimension.

its there! 12 on the anvil!!

Missile,

I was real tempted to call on that one. I think it was up for 5 hours when I saw it but gone the next day. Regardless...

Yeah, it had issues, but I've been waiting on a larger Wilton machinist for a long time. I thought it would be a cool project in the $200 range and may even say f-it and pay the guy 300 depending on what it looked like in person.

Jaws will be $100+ and a swivel base $120, but it will be near new when you're done with it, except...

The edges of the castings look well-rounded up on the top of the jaws. If they're nice and crisp they'll clean up and look like new. When they're rounded rounded and worn like that, well, then it just looks like an old vise with fresh paint.

I probably would have snagged it for $200, but the freely rotating handle but seized jaw kinda scared me. I also saw the wear around the jaws....who knows how long it was used without a jaw insert.

Anyone seen a Supreme before. Handle looks looks Asian to me but can't say I ever heard of a Supreme vise before. Has either 150mm or 6" jaws. Being sold locally for $150

Looks like a "Supreme Products Corporation" logo. They had some affiliation with Rigid I think. I come across Drill Chucks and Arbors occasionally. Probably 1960' era. The chucks were made in US but markings on other products didn't say origin. I would guess Asian import.

101043 - this number is the part number of that respective part, body+ static jaw; the vise is in excellent condition.

Kwhunter- I did some digging and apparently 101043 is the model number on my newest vise. It was made in between the 9500 and the 500S. Only 76 lbs, kind of disappointing for a 5" swivel base vise (when Wilton redesigned it as the 500S, they added 20 lbs of beef). Definitely explains why I thought it felt light- it is.

That Parker is a old one, just love the Meatball end. Building a handle is not to difficult if you have access to a lathe. I believe the weight to be around 80 + lbs. Where can you buy a over size 5" vise for $175. You will not make much money on a resale in my opinion since replacing the handle and cleaning up the jaws will take some time. The big chamfer on the base will discourage some buyers unless you remove some of the mass.

This 6" Parker was in as good as shape as your 5-3/8 vise but I replaced the jaws and replaced the handle. I sold it for $650 and purchased mine for $125 in 2012. If that vise was close to me I would be happy to purchase it for that amount if no surprises on the other side not shown.

Thank you for this thoughtful reply. And... I'm not sure what you mean by 'the big chamfer on the base... and removing some of the mass'? I'll attach a picture of the underside of my Parker 107 to show what I think you mean.

Might you actually mill/grind away some of that 'chamfer to allow it to sit further back on the bench?

And... on my 107 (in the pic) what is the purpose of the smallish (I'm not even sure what to call it) part sticking down from the base (directly below the handle, to the right of the rightmost chamfer)?

Oh... and where might I get jaws if I end up with it?

The missing jaw had been welded to the static jaw tower on top. Apparently the weld joint had broken off together with the jaw. That's why it looks rounded in the photo. You can see this clearly in the attached photo that gives a view from the top. The vise was also missing the collar. So you could turn the handle to easily remove the lead screw (which was fine and intact). This vise definitely had some issues, but all of them could be addressed if you had the equipment and skills.

I've not either, but it looks to be pretty solidly built, and I like unique vises in my collection. That said, in the back ground there is an interesting vise, not the swivel standing upright, but in the upper left corner on its side...seems to be a very different little guy, I think...

Guys thanks for your comments on the Supreme vise. It is heave duty looking and with a little work could be shaped into a good looking vise. I was wondering if I should add it to the spreadsheet? I really do not want to start adding Asian vises since there is many out there that looks the same but with different model numbers and branded names. Thanks again.

I got this vice today for 6 quid in a S/h shop it’s a Record no1.

It looks beat up but it’s smooth to operate, these don’t need any fancy adjustments.
There was another Record no1 for £15 in good order but I like refurbishing when I can.
Probably start on it tommorow.

I had a Parker 79 with 6-1/2" jaws and it had a heave chamfer like yours. I built a stand for it but did not want to chop out the big chamfer area. I really do not know why they cast such a large chamfer, must have been a reason. Guys have added a wood base underneath where the chamfer could be cut easier and not ruin a bench. I chose to cut most of it out but used a 1-1/4 ball end mill just in case it needed strength there. Matched the base plate to the radius. I also do not like how the stationary bases are not flattened, I have see over 3/16 of casting irregularities where I was afraid the hold down ears would break attaching the vise to a flat steel plate. I guess the best way to attach a base like that is to fill the areas with a rubber pad or a two part mixture.

As for the jaws, I do not have time any more to make Parker jaws but always happy to add my 2-cents on how I built them. I actually made a blog on my steps. Look HERE. Good luck with your vise if you buy it, 7" Parkers are kind of rare.

I sold it to the first person who came to see it. After looking it over he didn't even bother to try and negotiate on price. He just handed me the cash and he and another fellow carried it out.

Fifteen minutes before the first guy showed up I had another guy who contacted me about the vise who wanted to stop by that day as well, but I had to tell him it was sold. These Wiltons go quickly.

And yes, I live in Webster.

Small world. I must have gotten the CL alert later, cause it was gone about an hour after I originally got the message. Not really surprising...sometimes I don't get an alert at all.

It's the hollow jaws - just like the Columbians.

All that for nothing... I'm a *****.

There is a Springfield 45 minutes from me (here in PA) however the Parker No. 4 is in Springfield Mass. I just noticed that google maps had it taking over 4 hours to get there!

If anyone is interested she did say she would come down to $100 for someone who was going to restore it (and probably for anyone really). This might be a link to it

Maui,

Curious, where did you come up with it? Looks like that vise had a hard, wet life....

I have no idea where it was used. I bought it from a gentlemen who had it for years with the intent of fixing it up but he didn’t appear to know how. I was planning on restoring it myself, but just don’t have the motivation to break away from other projects right now.

This Prentiss no. 802 has been on the block at eBay for the last week. The poor little guy couldn’t attract a single bid so I was the only bidder this morning. I paid the $39 adoption fee and went to pick it up seeing that the seller was only 45 minutes away (couldn’t wait for delivery on Monday). The vise has a beautiful coco brown patina and the only issue is the missing clamp plate. Nice grab Smitty! Mine is missing the clamp plate as well.

I'm looking for any catalog scans for my own Prentiss 802. Anything, any quality would be very much appreciated!

Thanks for posting that 454 - I reached out to the guy and he told me it was also posted on eBay, I scooped it right up. I *love* having these unique oddities in my collection.

Wow, that's weird, I just saw it on Ebay myself, active, and as I clicked on it it came up sold. Congrats, you'll have to tell us more about it when you get it, mechanism is definitely different.

No 802's here. These people advertised as Shepard. May be of help.

Sometimes ya gotta act quickly when you see the unique ones! That or Smitty or VA or one of you other fellers will jump on it before me! :bounce:

Will definitely send some more pictures when I get it. It certainly does look to be well made at least. My friend's wife is Chinese, so I'm going to see if she can help me translate it and maybe I can dig up a little history. From the looks of it, I think it being at least 75 years old (as per the ad) might be even a little light on years, but who knows...

*edit* Ok, she responds that it translates to "Metal wares made for sailing on the boat" or something like "steel tool for ships".

Couple of better pics:

It's the hollow jaws - just like the Columbians.

Interesting, I think I do recall now seeing the factory cutaway and also some broken ones. I know the Columbians were hollow so the casting could get properly heat treated. What are these older Wiltons made of?

I still like the vise, it's very cool looking, and also awkward. And pretty good shape for 48 years old. But like Outlaw said, they do sell well. My 1st Wilton a 4" fixed base, I netted a 500% profit by flipping it.

(although I did have to deal with a stranger bombarding me with harassing texts about the vise and why I wasn't going to sell it at the price I was asking and they would take the burden off my hand for a very generous $20 donation. I hope that was nobody here. Sold to 2nd responder for full asking price. Took a pic of the vise in New owner's trunk with my left hand flipping the bird, sent to 1st guy with a nice message, then blocked him).

Very nice Smitty! That one has been in my eBay watch page since it was listed. I was also surprised it didn't get any bids. I was going to throw in a $40 bid in the final moments too but was too busy at work to even pull my phone out this morning.
