Awesome job of presenting the candidates in the GS thread Lugz! (Link for those that want to see the candidate posts: )

https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=7595694#post7595694

Not sure its going to help picking a winner though! As you said; no one could object to any of them! Well, six of of seven maybe! ;) (Not sure I belong with such an illustrious crew this year! - It seemed slow to me!)

Even going by the "campaign planks" it's difficult to select the best! but I'm narrowing the list with those, and using the wonderful background info you put together for the "tiebreaker"

Vote now for the 2018 Garage Sale Thread "Picker of the Year"!

Bmwrd0 for the quality of items he finds! Ragtopta is definitely a close second !

Edit: if my vote could be changed I would change it to Tin Medic for the mass amount of plomb and proto tool boards he just found and posted! I could understand maybe finding 1,23 maybe 5 at once but he found 20 at once. This trumps all in my plomb loving book[emoji51] maybe Tinmedic for plomb picker of the rear and Bmwrd0 for best picker over all if there was such a category ?[emoji51]

How about changing the award name to “Picker On Top This Year”? The POTTY award has kind of a nice ring to it.
By the way, I already voted.

LUG: to make your job even more FUN (or not) if there happens to be a TIE are you going to do a vote again with the 2 or 3 winners, make more awards, or just toss a coin? :shocking:

it's sure been a fun Picking year with you at the helm and i think the rest of the members will agree.

You're obviously not the superstitious type, Drives. You just had to say the "T" word, didn't you? It was 21-20 before your post. Now it's 21-21!

There will be no overtime poll. If it ends in a tie, of course I won't be flipping a coin. I will be flipping this vintage Auto-Lite Spark Plug Gage and Points Adjusting Tool.

Tin: congrats on your win and we won't mention (more than a couple times I'm betting) that you might have swayed the vote in your favor with that last minute Proto Tool board haul. WELL DONE!!

LUG: another fun time and sorry you don't get to flip now

ALL: congrats to all of you that were in the running and those that voted that maybe should have been if they posted all their finds. 2018 is just another great year of PICKING and finding some of those GEMS that need to find more of us in the future.

I'd be interested in printed information about the points adjusting features of this item. thank you.

Snarky, wrenchguy!

Usually, a point gapping tool has a double open end tool for adjusting the spark plug side electrode. This one only has one open end (fork). :headscrat

You guys aren't doubting the veracity of a vintage tool because it doesn't match your experience, are you? That would be like someone implying Frank Mossberg made inferior motorcycle tire irons in 1916 because it's not the way he was used to doing it fifty years later.

I, too, am used to seeing gappers with a double-notch. Some disk type gappers even have a second blade on the other side of the tool, with the same double notches. In my experience, they were all redundant, not unique, with the same size notches. I've always assumed the extra bending notches were for convenience, and that this gapper, perhaps the first of its kind, just pre-dates that convention of convenience. Was I mistaken?

See Pics 1 through 4 for some contemporary ads for these gappers, which date to wartime. GMTK spec.

Not meant 2b, i believe greg 2b the most knowledgeable guy about the stuff he puts up. I'm a thimble compared to his grand canyon of information he is aware of. Yes, through my experinence i only know it being a plug gapper/gage.

No canyon here, wrenchguy! I was referring to the side electrodes on spark plugs, not the breaker "points" in the distributor. Sorry for the terminology confusion. Only on GJ would a debate break out in a poll thread where a gapper was posted in jest as a "coin" to flip to break a tie! :)
