Proto "Pebble Field" items have a little rectangle at either end of the wrench with the size inside. Behind the size is a little pebbly area. They were made in the 1950s and 1960. NO they are not collectible, they're relatively common, I find one or two at almost every market. I live in LA so I'm collecting and using these old LA-made wrenches. I've been trying to put together a set of combos and double box ends.

I'm getting impatient waiting for some of the combos I haven't found:

1210... 5/16 Thank You Rickster!
1226...13/16
1236...1-1/8 and up.

Also lots of mine need upgrades so tell me what you got.

Also I am missing most double box'es.

Thanks.

Here's what I'm looking for... between the two rectangular fields it usually says

#### PROTO Los Angeles Mfd USA

...or something like that.

Wow! These must be more unpopular than I thought, not a single reply, not even a comment.

Am I the only person interested in these 50s and 60s vintage Protos?

Well I am comparing them to Plomb, which are not easy to find. The pebble field protos, I often see two or so, when I go to a swap meet. Most I leave lay, unless they're in really good condition. But then, I am in LA, where they were made. Took me a couple months to come up with a decent set. I'll get a photo of the set.

But as is always the case, there's a couple of holdouts I can't find.

I've decided not to buy the PF open ended (I just have too many OEs) and I have a bunch of those I could let loose.

The 5/8 is inscribed: "**** LAB." Didn't have a 5/8, so bought it anyway. Upside is, nobody wants to steal that one.

These I've decided to stop buying, I just don't need any more DOEs. So they're for sale if somebody finds them interesting.

I wonder which end of the combo the **** lab would use first? and I also wonder if the **** lab used **** lube?

hey you started it. :lol_hitti

LOL! I suspect it had a lot to do with whether or not they liked your medical insurance. Private insurance or self-pay, you get the box end. Gov't assisted care, reimbursing at a fraction of the cost, you get the open end!

I'm dropping out for now. Too busy with work. Sincere apologies to Bolster and the list for holding things up.

There used to ba a lot of Plomb at the Pasadena swap met in the 90's. Cheap. Also Proto LA I've seen, though not as much as I would've thought. Haven't been to a Swap meet in ages, but I plan to hit the one at Alpine Village sometime soon. I'll keep an eye out.

I have an extra Proto double box end with pebble fields. It is a 1145 15/16 1 inch.

It is a foot long, gonna cost a bit for me to ship. Would like to trade for something big and plomb, or proto wrenches, proto extensions or a proto ratchet.

Otherwise I guess $15 shipped.

I need that one, Rickster.

All: Still seeking 1226...a 13/16 combo in "pebble field" style.
