Wright vise grips just Irwin vise grips?

The other day, I purchased two pairs of Wright 9V6LN 6" long nose vise grips from Amazon. What showed up was two pairs of Irwin 6LN 6" long nose vise grips.

Did Amazon screw up and send me some Irwin instead of Wright vise grips? Or is Wright's catalog incorrect?

I seem to remember some recent Wright Tool advertising that was very heavy handed with the "ONLY MADE IN THE USA" branding.

Hmmm...

Is that Wright's catalog page? It has the Irwin trademark right there in huge letters.

Maybe Apex still makes some in the US?

IIRC, Wright has sold products they dont make themselves, rebranded or not. Vise grips and Channellocks come to mind.

Not really any different then any of the truck brands in regards to Vise grips.

Yes, Wright's catalog page. I might be missing the forest for the trees, but where does it say anything about Irwin on that page?

I think Apex is allergic to US manufacturing now.

It doesn’t say Irwin, but the “vice grip” name is clearly there.. which is a trademark of irwin
They are simply selling Irwin tools in their own catalog

You don't go knocking off someone else's trademark without getting your *** sued. If it is from Wright, then it's one of the items they source to round off their product line.

Oh, okay - I see now. It didn't click with me about "vise grip" being a trade name like Kleenex/tissue. I should've known that - I have some Irwin NWS made pliers that say "vise grip" on them.

It does seem that way.

Its probably an error.

This is kinda disappointing, I was hoping I had got a good deal on some US made locking pliers, instead I've just got an okay deal on some Chinese made Irwin pliers that I've had bad experiences with before. I'm not particularly anti-Chinese tools, but I'm particularly anti "breaking during the first use" tools... Maybe that is the same thing in some cases.

They say "The Original vise grip" on them, but I thought Petersen DeWitt was the original.

It's happened before. A member here bought a Wright Tool small hand carry toolbox and it had a made in China sticker.
They make their hardline wrenches sockets ratchets extensions etc. The other oddball stuff like vise grips and and adjustable wrenches was farmed out. Some is us but not all.

Yup, I made one of those purchases. Its a little nicer with bearing slides but if the place I bought from hadn't given me a really good price it would have been a rip-off and the catalog makes no mention of it being chinese. Biggest issue is their catalog makes it seem that everything is US made when that just isn't the case.

If you can wait a while, Malco recently bought the old DeWitt plant and is in the process of gearing up to produce USA made locking pliers there. Eagle Grip I believe they call them.

Who was bought out by Irwin, who was bought out by Rubbermaid-Newall, etc etc etc. I'd have to look up online who the current owner is. I said Apex above but I'm not sure that's correct.

Stanley Black and Decker is the current owner of Irwin Tools.

I recently bought a Wright tool set that was packed in March 2017. The Vice-Grips in it were Chinese Irwins.

Yeah I emailed them asking about them and it's going to be a good 7-8 months before they are available:(
