Christmas tool thread! What did santa bring you?

Well, I gave the old bearded fatass a couple of extra days, but still nothing!

Being such a swell guy, I can't deny myself anything, so:

I thought the 50 second fill time on the compressor was wishful thinking, but it's true!

Thanks to Santa, these should be real nice in the garage when I move in.

Man, having the miter saw on a stand is the bees knees. I hate cutting on the ground. Even today I set up a couple of saw horses, a sheet of plywood, and threw the miter saw on top. For my metal chop saw I have a full bench, around 8ft long, with a recess for the saw to sit flush in. Makes a huge difference on your back by the end of the day.

Brother in law says...$30 pliers??? I bought three Stanley pliers for $12 bucks. I said "You'll understand someday..."

I’m curious how well that’s going to work for you. I need to look at the same thing. I have been noticing lots of cold spots this year.

The little bit that I have used it, I think it will be helpful. I've found a few spots near doors that need my attention.

I realize there is some range in the accuracy (+/- 4 to 7 degrees) depending on the temperature range you are at.

I look at it this way - if there is a significant absolute temperature difference as I move across a wall (or anywhere else), that might be worth further investigation. The level of accuracy really isn't a big deal to me.

Those are my thoughts at this point...hopefully they are helpful to you in some way.

Best bags made by far!

Very good Wisconsin made boots! It surprises me they aren't more popular. Near zero break in, never hear of guys getting blisters ever. Storm welt, easily resoled. They just blow Redwings out of the water, for the same money. I've never worn more comfortable boots, and I never bought cheap boots.. My ol lady even wears thorogood wedge steel toes...

Im wearing 8" max wedge plain toes now.

I'm going to get a pair of the 1957 reissue 8" mock toe wedges next time I stop in our local boot shop. They are smokin boots. I recommend them to anyone who must wear boots all day.


Hers and his, recent obernaufs treated for winter, so they look better than usual.

Agreed on all counts. I now have three bags at this point, an AWP HP, a McGuire Nicholas and now the Occidental. I'll probably switch em out bi monthly to keep the wear even.

For the boots I've decided after time with Timberland and Redwings Thorogood is now my go to boot brand

Got this one off amazon for $45 and change said it was an open box. At the amazon warehouse. Pretty evident by looking at the box when i got it must have been a return. Seems to work fine.

I finished this workbench for myself just before Christmas, picked up the pegboard from Amazon warehouse deals and the rest was scrap wood I had lying about the shop that needed to take up less space. Its bolted to a US General series 1 side cabinet.
MIL bought me the derailleur hanger alignment tool that's hanging in the upper right corner which I've already had to put to good use. Not shown is the Wheels Manufacturing BB press which has a nice box and will get minimal use so doesn't need to **** up space on the board. She's the only one who gets me tools and does a good job of getting me what I need/actually want.

I maintain a small fleet of bikes for the family; the kids (3,6, &8) each have 2 bikes, wife has 3, I have 4 and there's 2 tandems plus 5 bikes I keep for church group rides. So a work area and good tools is a necessity and this seems like a decent setup so far.

Wait until they get older. The fleet of bikes will turn into cars. At least you’ll have more garage space when they out grow the bikes, but your driveway will always be full!

The wood shop is in the garage, bikes are in the shed. If they continue as they are, and with kids who knows, they'll be too busy racing to worry about cars and cars will save money since they'll get used Corollas or something just as safe. The 8yo did 3 duathlons this year and in the last got 3rd beating a handful of 10-12 year olds, just couldn't beat a 14 or 15yo. The 6yo did 1 and both did some kids' cross races and had fun. But when they get bigger the bikes get into the thousands. For just riding a 3-600 bike is fine, but if they keep competing they won't get the best but good enough the bike can't be blamed if they don't win.

My German in-laws got me this Einhell Expert sliding compound mitre saw so I stop borrowing his 220v one.

Much to my wife's amazement, my young daughter who can't use a computer yet somehow managed to order me the Duralast 1/4 socket set that was in the GJ Hot Deals section a few weeks ago for $15.

The same daughter got the Lowes kid's pink tool box set from her American grandparents, plus a few additional small tools. She likes taking things apart and I hope she doesn't start "fixing" things around the house or in the garage.

The trick is learn from your mistakes and don’t repeat them. The bonus is she has you to back her up and end up having some great one on one time. Both my daughters are more than capable now that they are on their own.

The Klein 1006 crimpers are from my wife and the set of six Milwaukee cushion grip screwdrivers are from our daughter and her boyfriend, 1-2-3 phillips, two slotteds, and one cabinet slotted. Our son and his wife gave me a HD gift card, so two more Milwaukee drivers are on their way to me.

I'm hoping Milwaukee expands this line to include torx drivers and nutdrivers.

Pontiac, great advice. I was also afforded the opportunity to learn and break a few things while growing up. I plan to give my daughter the same experiences, hopefully she continues to show interest.

Silly question, but what is the difference between the upside down silver ones and the black cobras and why would you use one vs the other?
